  1. I went with Romantic Planet - and she found us a pretty awesome deal for booking soooooo far in advance. (20months!) - Its still possible to find something cheaper online - but there's not always a guarantee. And my TA was also able to get everyone a FREE upgrade to Diamond Club which is $150 value pp. And now i have the peace of mind that if something happens or goes wrong...my TA will be dealing with it...rather than it being on my shoulders. I'll have enough to worry about with the wedding itself. I would just compare online prices and TA prices. I think each situation can be different - depending on the resort..what time of year you go etc.
  2. Ya- ive done a fair bit of looking around on here - i just wish it was filtered better But ya- i think i might email the resort directly and see if we can book the date - Im wondering if they'll want to know the location right away tho - im having trouble deciding where I want the ceremony - on the gazebo or beach..hopefully i wont have to decide that right now
  3. Believe it or not dafonts doesnt even have that font! I found it on another site for free - BUT for some reason it will only show up in Excel when i look up the font to type in a regular box...but if its a text box..it disappears!
  4. Well - my travel agent has put in the request to the resort now that we have our group booking in place. We know the dates of travel. Nov 27- Dec 4 Im assuming my wedding day will be Nov 30 or Dec 1 I would think they'd be pretty open - but ya- not sure why they haven't replied to my travel agent. Im tempted to email myself but I've been warned thats a bad idea and that all confirmations should go through the Travel agent. Apparently once the wedding date is booked I'll be given a Wedding co-ordinator to work with - so ya - still waiting for that. Im not in a panic just yet - but it would be nice to at least get the wedding date booked - so i can start on my invites etc. The rest of the details can definitely wait.
  5. Great questions! I would love to hear the answers aswell! Were you hoping to have the dinner poolside also?
  6. Very cool! I only need about 30 also..but still so cheap! Walmart here i come!
  7. anyone else having trouble getting the resort to nail down a wedding day? Mine isnt till Nov 2012 - but Id really like to get started on my STD's!
  8. I agree! So many great photos and ideas! im going to have a hard time narrowing it down!
  9. Congrats! Glad to hear it went so well! We just booked with our photographer! He's so excited to come down and shoot us next year. I'm soooo excited!! I now have ZERO worries about how my pictures will turn out!
  10. These are fantastic - and its kinda nice to see an example of OOT bags without travel mugs. I think mugs are great - but Im really not keep on hauling 20-30 down to the resort in a suitcase.
  11. Wow- i would have expected something like that from the resort chef - not a professional bakery! You're right- its not horrible - but ya they should have come through a lot better than that! So sorry
  12. Ok...gonna attempt to post pics of Arrecife's photo packages i couldnt capture in one image so you'll have to try and piece them together
  13. I personally liked Arrecife's photos - they do a good job - but when I saw their prices I just about lost it. I was planning to go with Ivan Luckie and book him in for the three nights - as this is the only way around having an outside photographer come in - but his prices and a lot of other photographers prices are all limited to how many hours you want them there for. Which is good in some way and not so good in others. I may still use Ivan to do my TTD the following day - as it will be off the resort but I'm now looking into bringing a photographer right from home. My group bookings have ensured me a couple of 'free bookings/credits' so I think I'll plan to use that for the photograher and that takes care of this travel expenses...and then when he's down there - I'll have him for as much use as I want. No restrictions. I won't have to pay extra to have him at the reception - nor will I have to if I want pictures around the Hacienda etc. His fee is around $3200 CAD - and I know he'll be rounding off a couple thousand pictures - rather than paying Arrecife $2800USD for 160 photos that only covers me getting ready...the ceremony and pics after the ceremony.
  14. Good idea! Is it necessary to put the songs on a CD? Or have people also just brought their iPods?
  15. This resort will not allow outside photographers in. They use Arrecife - and their photots are pretty decent but I find that their photo packages are a bit of a rip off. Ill be having my wedding in Nov 2012 - and Im currently looking at photographers from Calgary to bring down. I had found a great one from Playa Del Carmen- but the only way you can get around the outside photographer rule - is to book them into the resort for 3 nights and then they are considered a 'guest' at your wedding. So at that point I just figured I should have someone from home come down . Its your choice tho.. Ironically you can bring other outside vendors in like hair and makeup...DJ..etc - and can pay the $90USD resort day pass - but for photographers - they are strictly contracted through the resort - I don't have the pdf's for everything else - maybe someone else can help with that
  16. Ya- i got the same response initially with my travel agent. But she was somehow able to work her magic and got us a fantastic deal! Not only did we get a great price for Tulum - but all of my guests only had to put down a $200 deposit by the deadline and it secured them the Diamond Club Upgrade FREE!! We didnt anticipate booking so early - but it all worked out...Aaaaaaand the icing on the cake is that we got 31 people booked already!! Yaaaaaaaay! I wouldnt panic too much though about booking for Nov 2012 - its a long ways away - and you want to get the best price. You're actually the first bride I've encountered on here thats lookin at the same time of year. Everyone else is still booking for March - May 2012. So ya- no worries right now
  17. I actually found the travel agent at one of my cities wedding shows. They had a free Destination Wedding seminar and thats what pushed me to go with them. I was weary because I had heard through other brides that doing group bookings will entail your guests paying MORE than if they booked on their own online. Which is true to some degree - but the benefits are that if something were to happen that caused your wedding to be cancelled or postponed (aka Hurricane) - then everyone in the Group booking is protected whereas if they booked seperately they we're on their own. Plus - Krama is right- its easier to have someone answering all the questions for you if your guests have concerns. We used Romantic Planet - but I dont think they're in the US - but if I were you - try and find a travel agent that deals STRICTLY with destination weddings/honeymoons. They are bound to do a much better job than someone who just books regular vacations. These guys are specialists for a reason - so with you having a lot of people coming in all over the place - it would probably be beneficial to have someone do all the co-ordinating.
  18. Hi! Welcome! I wont be having my wedding there until November 2012 - so I can only answer a couple things for you We've booked with the resort already - But not the wedding date - Even though its mega far away - we got an amazing deal for a group rate and even though it wasnt my 1st pick of resorts for my wedding -i've stayed here before and its a great resort - (Tulum) Which leads into your next question - we did use a travel agent. One that specifically does destination weddings and honeymoons. Lucky for us - ALL of our guests are flying out of the same city - but ya- I do think it would be best for you to get a travel agent to co-ordinate all your guests. Not sure if you're flying from US also.? For your last question - I'm not 100% sure on how it all works. From what I've gathered so far - the resort gives you options to hold your reception at - and I believe its at one of the a la carte restaurants - and if its there - i think the alcohol and food is part of the all-inclusive but if you choose to have it elsewhere - like poolside - there is a charge because you're having to staff the even privately rather than just at the restaurant where its staffed anyway. i could be completely wrong about this - as I haven't booked anything like that yet - so hopefully someone else can chime in and clarify. Hope this helps!
  19. You think its worth it? This is pretty much what I want - just different colors and flowers
