Ocean Blue & Sand-Punta Cana
jbmarch2012 replied to SabBrew's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
MsClarke, I assume it's all the same in the DR, it's 26% for taxes. Did you mean you're deciding between Now Larimar and Ocean Blue as well? Debs, I appreciate your review, and the pics you have posted! Thanks -

I know it's a hit or miss with TA as far as group booking... it's really odd! Yeah I am doing April and I got $88 pp/ pn. I think the company is sand and sun vacations... haha I have 3 different companie that I ask quotes from! -

Skygirl, I think I've seen it mentioned here before but for the most part it's been Yinette that I've seen... I'm sure they do it as a team, I don't see why they wouldn't. There are 2 reviews on here, I'll see if they mentioned Ada or Yinette... -
Deesanders, I have that kayak thing set up but by chance! haha, I didn't know how to do that... I just put in my dates of travel to do the flight search, just to see if something will show up and a pop-up came up to prompt me if I want to set up alerts. It just asks for an email. Sarah, please post pics not as attachments so we can see them

Skygirl I did the legwork myself, too and asked a couple different TAs for a quote then I went with the best rate. I also tried to go through the resort but they advised me to go through a TA for the best deal... which I thought was kinda odd... Anyway, when I first started this process I found that not all TAs are excited to have a potential group clients, another odd thing for me-- I mean wouldn't they want to earn their commission in bulk? lol. MsClarke, Alcohol is included in some of the package-- I'm only certain of the two I'm considering sand extravaganza and ocean romance. Taxes are included, I think when you add on guests that's when you have to apply the tax rate. That's all the info I got for your questions. Hope that helps! -

skygirl, I know what you mean... I check it all through out the day! -
Here is the site that was easiest to follow for me http://www.projectwedding.com/wedding-ideas/diy-wedding-challenge-how-to-design-your-own-monogram-in-microsoft-word , also if you do a search on here, there are a couple threads with tutorials on how to do it. For invites wording I look at the DIY invites threads to find sample wording... that might give you ideas... I am excited about my dress, I can't wait to try it on!

Moniwoni, It's on this thread http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/36700/post-all-knock-off-wedding-dress-questions-comments-here/2970 , let me know what you think... The netbride site is the real thing and you can negotiate the prices, I wasn't sure how you felt about knock-offs so I gave you that site and I've heard great things as far as their communication. I have seen another thread here about flights being changed, that's crazy! I can imagine how you feel, and not even be notified?!? Oh my! Good thing you saw it!

Acutie, I am on waiting mode anyway so no big deal if you can't send me the info until your TA gets back... Again great job with your rate! If I can get that with the promo and book 20, it'll be a good deal... especially since we have a big chunk of guests planning on staying a week! I would be freaking out about the confirmation! That's crazy! But if you have it charged on your card and you can show them that, then I don't think you should stress about it too much... They're official "opening" as Now Larimar is getting close so they are probably swamped with the transition right now... Relax, you have documentation of everything so it would be easy to sort everything out, it's just the waiting to hear back that's going to be hard!

Deesanders, Forgot to tell you when you can get the credit. What I was told is that you don't get the credit until after it is paid in full, because they have to average the amount of nights for the free rooms... So I would have to find a way to explain to the guests how they would be paying more first then get credit back? Why does it all have to be so confusing and complicated?
-
Acutie, That might be the best rate ever!!! I hope you don't mind forwarding me that contract so I can have my TA match it? I understand if you need to block some infor on it, I just need the part with the rate and what it includes and also the 6th room free? Really hope you don't mind doing that... I would appreciate it sooo much! and congrats looks like it's all working out for you! Oh and the kids rate I got is 0-3 yr olds are free, then older would be $47. So your kiddos group should be free! For air rates, she told me for April 2012 travel it should be released by May 1st. I will double check for you on that though, you're date is only a week later than mine so I don't know how much of a difference that should make as far as when it would be released... Maybe you can also get a guarantee of getting the lower rate down the road, even if you book early? Deesanders, Thanks for letting me know about Ocean we are having about 5-7 kids traveling with us, their rates are under $100 a night that's why we are strongly considering them... we'll see how it pans out with the air included. I know it's kinda hilarious when they started to argue about the $6000(?) dress or was it more, I love mspiggypigpig! And she is a great source of info when it comes to the makers! For the DJ 2012, as far as I know they have that listed on their pricing as being changed over to a soloist for the ceremony. I hope I'll be following your footsteps soon ladies, I really want to stick with Now and with this group

skygirl, If you have a facebook account there is a site for ocean blue and sand brides http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=2452842946 and there are plenty of reviews there. I know there're only 2 on here... I looked into majestic before but you're right about the additional fees they charge, it really gets up there for prices. I didn't research any adults only resorts becasue we definitely have kids coming with us... We originally was going to do March but then moved it because we wanted to avoid the majority of spring breakers... By the way next year the 1st week of April is Easter week and I was told that they raise prices for that week. We're doing the week after Holy week. Most of my guests would be coming from Philly, JFK or Newark. -
AcutieRN, you really should push for the promo especially when we are getting it... that could save you a lot of money and your guests as well depending on how you use the credit for it... Deesanders, thanks! I was hesistant as well but I knew I had to take a leap of fate if I wanted to keep my dress cost down... I've looked at a lot of dresses that's within my budget and didn't feel comfortable settling, so the knock-off route was the next best thing. But I definitely did a whole lot of research before I committed with dressilyme. I know that thread is sssoooo long now, but if you really are considering it, I would read through everything and look at works that has been posted on there. It really helped me out!

skygirl, I use this email [email protected] to contact the WC, her name is Yinette and she's been great with responding. Most of the time I get a response within a day or 2 from her. I'll probably choose the Ocean Romance package, we're having about 50 guests so for the price and what's included it's the best value for us, plus all the extra pampering helps! Are you looking at other places as well? -

No problem, just sent it... Let me know if you decide to book here. I'm actually between Ocean and the new Now Larimar but waiting on airfare rates to come out next week for April 2012 before I decide... It would be nice to have another bride to plan with if we do end up choosing Ocean! -
Thanks, I went on their site and looked for the closest one they make to the dress that I wanted and then just sent them pictures of how to create it. They were great to work with and for the price I paid I think they made the dress well. I'm happy with that decision. Atleast I have something off my list! We have less than a week to wait for air rate! yay! haha. This is really going to be the deciding factor so I'm crossing my fingers! That's crazy they won't offer you the 6th room because I've gotten that deal from 2 other TA's that I asked quotes from. Well, back to waiting for us!
