  1. I don't think it looks bottom heavy at all...but it seems like there's a lot more material on the bottom in comparison to the model picture. Have you already had it altered? Maybe they could help if you wanted it to fit a little closer? A good alteration expert can do wonders. Also, just a thought, but I think this dress would look amazing with some kind of crystal/beaded sash or belt- something to give a little extra detail to the waist. Good luck!
  2. Hope everything goes wonderfully for you and your day is all you hope for and more!!! Can't wait for another review to read... haha.
  3. LOVE it Starrysim!!! Especially cuz it's a lot like mine! Glad to hear one finally felt like the one!!!
  4. Congratulations! Isn't it CRAZY that they are so booked?! I bet the wedding planners at both never get a sick day!
  5. Just bought a dress last week! YAY! So I can't resist another place to share it. The sample was a couple sizes too big so it will look a lot better when it fits! I can't wait to try it on when it comes in.... in June. It's an Allure 8766. I was deciding between two dresses, and when I was trying this one on a final time (I was already pretty sure it was the one) the song came on that I chose as our first dance. Must have been a sign! Haha. And then when I went in a couple days later to get a dress swatch, the sales lady told me someone came in right after I did and bought the sample! So I'm so glad I went back so soon to make my final choice!!! Here it is:
  6. Hey Mrs. Marshall, I booked mine the beginning of January and had no trouble getting what I asked for on the first try. It did take her a good week plus to get back to my travel agent. I would just ask what is left and see if any of it works for you....there's gotta be a few during the week left sometime in Nov and Dec. Good luck!
  7. Hey all, just found a really great website today that I thought I would share: jamaligarden.com. They have a ton of different kinds of shell garlands, capiz garlands...even starfish garlands. Lots of different seashells and candles and things too. Love it!!!
  8. Hello ladies! I'm getting married December 6th at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites, Montego Bay. I ordered my STD's and got them last week, but have yet to send them out. Most of our guests will be family so everyone already knows about it. Unfortunately some more extended family members have taken it upon themselves to decide they're coming without an invite....agh! So we have to sort that out and decide who else we have to invite if these people come. I also bought my dress just this last week!!!! I love it but have had so much worrying about it since I had to try on one that was a couple sizes bigger, so it's hard to tell how it will look when it fits perfectly. But.... I went back to try on the two I was deciding between and when I put the one on that I thought I wanted, the song I want as our first dance came on. Plus, I went back today to get a fabric swatch, and they told me the sample of the dress I tried on and decided on was actually bought RIGHT after I came back the second time to try it on. I'll take it as a sign that I happened to come in to try it on right before the sample was sold. Other than that, I've just done lots and lots of looking at magazines and forums! And I'm booking my makeup artist today. I decided and jumped in! Making some of those decisions is just so hard this far in advance, but I need to start going for things. Nice to meet you ladies, hope we can help each other! Kim
  9. I haven't had any MAJOR problems yet with them, but I really wish I had found this website sooner! I have seen so many brides get better deals from travel agents or special things added on, that destinationweddings.com doesn't seem to offer. Bummer! And Tiffany....AGH!!! No fun! I really did have to laugh over your post though. What's funny about my planner is that apparently he really likes to talk on the phone- my MOH's husband spent an hour and a half on the phone and said he learned allll about my planner while getting info for the wedding. Not the worst thing ever, but seriously funny! Hope it gets better for you!!!
  10. I've been having the same problem! I was able to attach pictures on Saturday, and when I tried again on Monday it would either cut the picture in half or not work. I would love to know if this gets figured out! Kim
  11. I was just wondering if any of the past brides have any pictures or insight to share as far as how the resort spa does with hair?? Or if anything like this was posted previously and someone can direct me to it, that would be great! I haven't made it through the whole thread yet!
  12. I chose and ordered! #2 it is!!! Then I had a moment of freaking out last night over whether the diamond white was the right choice.... it's always gotta be something! Haha!
  13. Agh! Correction, there isn't an Alfred Angelo, the second two were both Allure. I remembered incorrectly. Purple Unicorn: I wanted to try on a Jenna, but they didn't have one! Starrysim: Thanks! I love the #2 also, but I'm trying to decide whether my FI will too.... he's picky. I'll be at the Suites 2 weeks after you!
  14. I've been having a few problems with my wedding specialist getting back to my guests as well. He's really good with me, but 1 guest has emailed him twice in the last month and hasn't heard back.... hmmmm???
  15. Islandgirl, We're getting married the day before we leave, either at a church or city hall. I wanted to get married officially in Jamaica, but my FI wanted it done on "American soil" first. Haha. Soooo.... I got to pick the resort but he got the marriage here first. Basically I have to convince myself I'm just going through the motions here, but not really considering it official (to myself) until the ceremony. And we're calling it a marriage "ceremony", instead of a renewal of vows, which seems weird. But, as I've told my FI, it gives us an excuse to celebrate our marriage for 3 days every year!!! From the day we have the actual marriage until the day we do the ceremony! Personally I'd be just as happy to just do it in Jamaica, but if that concession makes him happy, so be it!
  16. BTW, I know this is probably one of the worst bridal salons you've ever seen...but it's the only Maggie Sottero dealer in the area!
  17. Okay, I am SERIOUSLY in need of some help. I ended up with one Maggie(#1), one Allure(#2), and one Alfred Angelo(#3)....and I can't choose!!! Please help! Sorry for the odd poses and weird faces!
  18. Finally going to try on dresses next Saturday....if I need help deciding I'll be posting them RIGHT HERE! So excited!!
  19. I totally agree.... it seems ridiculous and makes no sense. I understand that the $18 has to do with set up fees, extra cake, etc, but I think that's a lot to rent out the restaurant. And I'm sure the majority of brides don't use half the stuff included in the wedding package price, yet there aren't any discounts for what's not used. I think they know we'll all just pay what we have to in order to make our day perfect! Shame on them.
  20. Hi ladies, I just thought I would let you know that when I emailed Sungold photography to get some prices, they sent back info including a special they have going on for the time-being. They have a new associate "cf" who does not have much of a portfolio yet, so they are offering half off of his fees. 3 hrs with him and a copy-right free CD of the images was $600. I know this is risky but I thought I would let you know. They gave a link to a wedding he did, which was not bad. He did way too many posed photos in my opinion, but did have some good ones in there. And maybe later in the year he will have gained enough experience to do a better job. There was no time limit put on his prices- I'm guessing as long as you book now, the price holds. They also offer a pkg with him that has 2 photographers, 8 hours, and other extras for $1200. If the other photographer had more experience that could be a great deal! Here's the link for the wedding he did: http://wpajamaica.com/show/assoc_cf/Stephanie-Mike/
  21. Does anyone know the extent that you can decorate if you DON'T rent out a restaurant? Thanks!
  22. So after reading everyone's worries about not getting enough people, I have to ask for advice on the opposite! I would rather keep the number somewhat small, since I want to go all out for decorations- I'd like to take tablecloths, napkins, and do a whole bunch of DIY stuff. Plus $18 pp to eat plus $7-$10/hr for an open bar for each person....it just adds up. My FI actually has 10 brothers and sisters, ranging in age from 6-28. The older ones are all definitely coming with their spouses, but leaving their kids at home. His parents will also be bringing their older kids and leaving some of the younger ones at home. My mom is my only relative coming, plus a couple of my best friends. With those people and us, we're at about 16 people. His family has known for a couple years that when we got engaged we would be doing a destination wedding, so they've all been expecting it. The issue I'm having now is that we were considering asking a few of my FI's cousins since we had extra space, which is fine by me, but now he's informed me some of his other relatives have invites themselves. They've been asking him for plans and told him they're coming. The problem with this is once we open it up past immediate family, we have to invite everyone or risk hurting people's feelings..... and his family is HUGE. I don't know how many would decide to come, but we could end up with our nice number of 16 going up to 40-50 easily. UGH! Any ideas on how to handle this? I really can't see myself telling the ones who have invited themselves that sorry, but it's only immediate family.... Just as another note, I remember someone talking about rates a few pages back, and there are so many better places to get rates than just from the Iberostar website. I think our guests are going to end up spending about $1600pp for flights from ND and 7 days/6 nights at the Suites. I know there are way better rates out there, but I didn't want to shop around, I just wanted it done!
  23. I'm going with a pool blue and chartreuse green, with a lot of white as well. These are definitely not the colors I would pick if I were doing it at home, but for the setting I think they're perfect for me. I was actually thinking about having my 3(?) bridesmaids where 3 slightly different shades of blue in the same dress. Definitely more blue than green, as a requirement by my FI. He has to have his opinion in everything.....AGH. You may have already posted this, but what are your plans for your ceremony and reception?
  24. Hi Marlena, Mine is still "penciled in" because I am having so many problems with the form they sent me to finalize, but mine should be December 6th at the Suites! Congratulations!
  25. Yep, when you stay at the Suites you can go to Beach restaurants at no extra cost. They just state "subject to availability." But I think with all of the restaurants except the buffet you're supposed to call ahead and make reservations anyway.
