Customs in Mexico - declaring wedding stuff
shan0487 replied to PDCwedding's topic in Honeymoon Forum
The funny part was that it was blue and yellow sand...didn't know you could get that from the beach, lol. I just packed a plastic grocery bag in the top of our jar and it keep it from moving- until customs shook the whole jar of course....... -
Customs in Mexico - declaring wedding stuff
shan0487 replied to PDCwedding's topic in Honeymoon Forum
Ya our flight was delayed and we just wanted to get home- but thank you for customs in the US for holding us up!! Ugh- they were in Mason jars with our initials etched in them in the suitcase with all the OTHER wedding decorations... At least they let us go when we said we bought it all at Hobby Lobby lol. -
Yep they are from Old Navy!! Old Navy has really stepped up their game these days and has a lot of nice stuff!! I ordered them all online and they were true to size- thankfully everyone's fit and no one had any problems! I think I ended up getting them for like $25 a piece- they were on sale and I think I had a 20% off coupon! The only complaint from the guys were that they are button fly's and not zippers...boys- always complaining about something- if they knew what all we had to deal with to look good they would shut their mouths, haha.

You are correct- you cannot change the colin cowe packages- you can only add on to them. That is why most brides choose the complimentary package and add on what they want or bring their own decorations from home. The scenery is so beautiful the way it is you really don't need that much as far as ceremony decorations go- it takes away from the reason most brides choose Mexico- the beach and the ocean!!!

Simple is how I wanted it to be as well. The day we will celebrate is 11.23.12 in Mexico not 12.27.12 when we legally got married (we did it backwards and got legally married after Mexico). Believe me my husband took full advantage of saying "well we aren't married yet" for that month that we weren't- got old real fast lol. Anyways- we were planning on just going to the courthouse on our lunch break and then it ended up turning into our parents and siblings, and grandparents at our house with the family paster marrying us. I cooked dinner for everyone and my husband's grandma brought an ice cream cake. We both wore jeans and it was very casual- so it did not end up being just the two of us but was very casual and how I wanted it to be- so it worked out!

Hi Steph, I think they set the minimum people because you are given a private staff of about 7-10 people and they don't want to pay and staff these people for a party of 11 people. I understand where you are coming from, but you can have a semi-private dinner on the terrace of the Brazilian restaurant or other places they may recommend. Typically they have the cocktail hour before dinner- that is how the flow is set up. So you could do a cocktail hour (private) and then do a semi private dinner with your reservations and then go to the disco to dance the night away!! I did not have the resort do my makeup- but the spa at the Moon Golf Spa is amazing!! They are did a great job on my wedding party of 10's hair! Just be sure to bring a picture of the front and back exactly how you want it to look as some of them don't speak English very well. I saw the fireworks at our rehersal dinner from another wedding and they were cool!! For the food- Mexican all the way!!! We had that for the wedding and then the Yucatan menu for the rehersal dinner and it was all amazing food!! Hope this helps- let me know if you have any other questions!

Customs in Mexico - declaring wedding stuff
shan0487 replied to PDCwedding's topic in Honeymoon Forum
We luckily did not get searched going into Mexico- we got the green light yay! I only had my suitcase and one additional suitcase full of wedding stuff- the leftovers got shoved into other people's suitcases, lol. But I did get searched when I came home to ST Louis- so weird- they were questioing our sand ceremony and all we had to say was that we were married in Mexico and that we bought the sand from Hobby Lobby (after they shook it up mind you) and they let us go..ugh we were so irritated with them lol. -
Airlines that allow wedding dress as carry-ons
shan0487 replied to jajajaja's topic in Honeymoon Forum
We full Frontier Airlines and my dresses were my carry-on. They just put it in an overhead compartment and I didn't have any issues. My dress wasn't huge or poofy or anything though so it fit in an overhead compartment. -
Hi and congrats!! There are plenty of Moon Palace threads that can help you along the way!! I was a Sun Palace bride but we stayed at Moon Palace so I can help you with any questions you may have- feel free to PM. As for the guest list- we invited everyone to the wedding that we would have invited at home knowing that most people were not going to come and then we had an open house party at our house 2 months after the wedding. We invited about 110 people to the wedding and 39 people came to Mexico with us! Pretty good turn out and it was a perfect number for us- not too many but not too little and we had about 90 room nights so we got the max group benefits so I did not may anything for my ceremony, cocktail hour or reception!!

Hi Carley!! Welcome and congrats!! I was married at Sun Palace on 11.23.12. I wanted the beautiful beaches and water that is why I choose Sun Palace- that and the fact that there are not too many weddings at Sun and I wanted my wedding to be the only one that day and it was!! We actually stayed at Moon Palace with our guests and had the wedding at Sun. I had to pay for private transportation to and from but it was well worth it. I don't know if they allow this often, but I was able to get it done. We acutally flew down a photographer and assistant from home and had her photograph for 3 days- it actually ended up being cheaper as I used my comp'ed nights from my group benefits from 75+ nights than hiring a photographer in Mexico for 6 or 8 hours on the wedding day. I had a symbolic ceremony- I too was scared to have my blood drawn and I didn't want to pay all that extra money to have everything translated. We got married at home about a month after our wedding in Mexico. Feel free to PM me any other questions and I will send you a link to my wedding photos at Sun Palace!! Shanna

I would recommend getting a travel agent first- that way she can handle dealing with MP and the bookings and that you are certain that you get the group benefits through the travel agent when everyone books with her...otherwise you will be forced to have to book directly through MP to get the group benefits and that could be an issue down the line when you finally set things up with a travel agent! Just my two sense- this is how I did it and I had no issues what so ever with booking and getting my benefits with 75+ room nights!!

agreed, we registered at Kohls, BBB and Target. We both lived at home with our parentsall our lives even through college- so we literally had nothing.. so having 3 showers helped us get everything we needed! People typically get a shower gift and a wedding gift. I received shower gifts from everyone that attended and then when we sent our pre-travel brochures to those that were coming to Mexico with us not to get us a present as their attentance to our wedding was the greatest gift we could ask for. Of course we still had a few people that got us gifts that came to Mexico, but at least no one felt obligated to give us a gift. We had a lot of people that could not attend the wedding send us gifts and then we had an open house at our house about 2 months after the wedding where the rest of the people that didn't come to the wedding gave us gifts.
