I think you guys need to do what is best for yourself, especially if you are paying for your wedding yourselves. I had a lot of pressure from my family (mostly grandparents) to have a Catholic wedding in Canada. My husband and I were very clear that we did not want that at all and our family seemed to accept the idea. I have been to some weddings recently where the reception does not include a supper but rather a private family supper, maybe you could do something similar. I don't see any reason why you could not do a cake and punch reception. Do what is best for you and your future husband and try to compromise somewhat with your family if needed. Maybe suggest they pitch in to help with costs if they are adament about having a large extravagent reception.

I would book it as soon as you can. The dates and times fill up quick. If there is a specific date or time you want I would recommend booking as soon as you can.

Hi there! I had my hair and makeup done at the spa and I was really happy with it. I normally don't wear much makeup on a daily basis and wanted something a bit more then what I could do for my wedding. I told the girl at the spa that I wanted a very light natural look, nothing too heavy and she did exactly that. I swear I had about 35 layers of eye shadow that she used to build it to make the perfect color. I was really happy with the great job they did on my makeup. I say if you normally aren't much of a makeup person but are looking for that bit extra for your wedding book at the spa. Just tell them right from the beginning what kind of look you are hoping to acheive.

I was married at this resort in January. I can tell you that we did write our own ceremony and he basically said it word for word. There were a few sentences that were mandatory that he had to add, but I was fine with that. Also, have you looked at getting the free wedding package. That way you dont have to pay anything for it, especially if its just you and .your fiance with no guests.

We did use a TA to help us out.

Welcome!! For us the first thing we did was decide what we wanted from a resort (ex all inclusive vs non all inclusive, size of resort, amentities provided, wedding packages). We then came up with a budget. From there we started researching for what felt like forever (It was really only about a month before we decided on our location and resort. From our research we were able to narrow down the location and then the resort. Good luck!

Welcome! At first things can be so overwhelming. Once you are positive you want a destination wedding you need to decide on a month. For us it was easy choosing the month. My parents own a business that is super busy from about March to October so we chose a month in between there. I graduated University in December so we were left with January or February. We chose January as its cheaper then February. Once we had a month we choose our location. For us choosing the location and eventually the resort was the hardest part. We first thought we wanted to get married in Mexico as its cheaper then other destinations. However, we soon found to legally get married there (which was important for us) it takes a lot of time and money (from translating documents, blood tests etc). We then looked at other Caribbean destinations and decided upon Jamaica. We then made a list of what we wanted in our resort- all inclusive, not to far from airport, not too small, amenities provided on resort, etc. We (I should say I!) then wrote down every resort on the island and made a spread sheet. We were able to narrow it down quickly based on our criteria we were looking for (for example we eliminated all non all inclusive, ones that didn't fit the budget, and ones that were too far from airport). Once we chose our resort we got in contact with the wedding coordinators at the resort and asked for a list of available dates and times. From there we selected our wedding date.
