  1. I love those dresses!! I think silver or ivory shoes would be best.
  2. My dress is made of taffeta. I'm really happy that I purchased a dress with this fabric as its light and wont be to heavy to wear, it doesnt wrinkle easily, which is great for stuffing it in the overhead bin of an airplane). I didn't really care what fabric I chose as I just wanted a dress I loved.
  3. This is an aweful spot to be in. I know exactly how you feel as we went through something similiar but it was with FIs parents. When we first got engaged we sat down and made a list of who we were going to invite to our wedding. We want just a small wedding as we are paying for it ourseleves. We had decided who we were going to invite and it included grandparents but not aunts uncles or cousins. We send out our STDs to only the people on our list. Everything was fine until about two months later when my FIs mother told me she had invited some people to come to Jamaica to our wedding. I was absolutely furious, as its our wedding not her wedding, and the people she invited were friends of hers that I have never ever met in my life. I'm kind of a private person and didnt want all these extra people that I dont know at my wedding. I clearly explained to her that she needs to tell them they are not invited and she told me I would have to tell them. Needless to say I dont have that type of personality to call someone I dont know and tell them they cant come to my wedding. To get around it we sent invites to only the people on our list and excluded FIs parents friends that they had invited. Just a little while ago FI mother was mad that we never sent invites to her friends. She told us that they will be coming to Jamaica whether we like it or not. I told her that was fine, they are more then welcome to come to Jamaica the same time we will be there, but they will have nothing to do with my wedding and will not be included in any wedding events. We are about three months away from my wedding and so far none of these friends she invited have even booked to come (they were not allowed to book as part of our group, they had to book on their own) so whether or not they will show up who knows. It is a tough spot to be in. I guess you just really need to sit down with your FI and decided if its important or not to have those people. If not, dont send them an invitation. And be prepared to have some people angry for not receiving an invitation. Also, some people may show up at your destination anyways, and there is really no way to stop that.
  4. I haven't been there before but I'm really excited to go! I have heard only good things about it! We are still trying to decided where to go for our honeymoon (which will probably be about a year later then our wedding, so many our 1 year anniversary would be a better term!).
  5. I was so excited to hit the two digit numbers!! When I first started planning it was almost 400 days, and at that time I never thought it would get to under 100 days, but it has. Where has the time gone?! Unlike some of you, I honestly feel like I have nothing to do! I wish I had something to do because I feel like I need to be doing something, especially with less and less days to go! I had my first dress fitting, just waiting to go for the second sometime in November. I finish our OOT bags with logos. I ordered our pre travel brochures and will send them out when I get them. We wrote our welcome letter. We have everything we need and more! Glad to hear everyone elses planning is going good!
  6. I couldn't agree more about booking early. We booked about 10 months in advance and it was the best thing we did. We were able to save ourselves about $500 per person by booking early, just because prices have gone up and we qualified for an early booking bonus by booking so many seats early enough.
  7. We are having a DW for a few reasons. 1. Ever since I was a child I knew I would get married on the beach (In elementary school I wrote a story once about how I would get married in Jamaica, and now I'm actually getting married in Jamaica!) 2. My parents both have 12 siblings and both are youngest in the family. That means way to many aunts, uncles, cousins, ect!! (We figured it out, there is almost 220 family we would have to invite) 3. We didn't want to spend a small fortune on a wedding- our DW is much cheaper (we are paying most of it ourselves) 4. My brother had a failed engagement and I seen how much planning and what kind of expenses were involved with an at home wedding and I knew I didnt want that for myself!
  8. I think you did the right thing. I was under the impression that you include the invitation names of only those contributing and throwing the wedding. I know if may have upset your mom, but maybe you could just explain that it is tradition to not include her name if not financially helping with the expenses. Try not to let it get to you! You will have a beautiful wedding in DR no matter who is in attendance!
  9. We too are planning on making albums for our parents after the wedding. I think we are going to make the books of just our wedding day pictures, but we are going to put other pictures from the week vacation in Jamaica in a seperate album. For those we are going to just get nice photo albums from wal mart or such to put them in.
  10. I also used powerpoint. I have been making some for the last few months trying to make the perfect one, so far no luck. I guess I'm just to picky and not creative enough! There are tons of threads on here to help you out, just try searching for them.
  11. Happy Thanksgiving to any Canadian brides on here!! Hope you enjoy your turkey as much as I did!
  12. I only have pricing from last year when we booked him and I know his pricing and packages have changed a bit since then. Maybe one of the brides who more recently booked him will have the updated prices and packages, or email him. He is usually really quick to respond.
  13. Thanks for finding this! Makes it a little easier to decided who to tip and how much!
  14. Angela, thanks for emailing me the packages. Just to clarify for other brides, the packages that Angela emailed me are the same packages for 2012 that have been around for awhile, so don't panic, nothing has changed!
  15. We will be waiting until July. We wanted to do something more informal outdoors so we are going to plan on doing a BBQ sometime in July. There are lots of teachers in my family and this way they will be able to attend. I know it seems weird waiting but its just going to be more casual and informal then an actually reception at home.
  16. Wow, sounds like a busy few days. Im sure they really appreciate it! Your dress is beautiful!! As to favors and OOT bags we are kind of in the same position. We have 16 booked right now but there are some people who have told us that they will be last minute booking and coming. That being said I didnt want to order way to much stuff and have all this extra laying around. I finally decided just to order enough so they I don't feel bad for not having enough and will just sell the extras afterwards. Your dress looks great! I love the changes you made, really accentuate your bust area!
  17. Welcome! I would contact the resort directly and ask them exactly how many people can be accomodated in the chapel.
  18. Welcome! That resort is so beautiful you sure picked a great one! We were going to have our wedding there, but most of our family had been there before so we wanted to try something different! Happy planning!
  19. Welcome and congrats on your engagement! Happy planning:)
