  1. Welcome! I would try finding Cabo specific threads to discuss pricing and what not with other brides getting married there. Good luck with your planning!
  2. Welcome! Happy planning!
  3. Welcome! For us it was the most affordable to book our trips through a travel agent. We were able to secure a discounted price as we had a group booking of 10 or more people. I have been dealing directly with the resort for all the wedding aspects and planning and the travel agent has only been dealing with the travel aspect. Its probably easiest to deal with a local travel agent then it will be easier when it comes to paying deposits ect. Good luck with your decision!
  4. Welcome! I have stayed at the Grand Palladium White sands a few years prior and it was an amazing vacation. The resort is beautiful, but huge. I didnt see their catholic chapel though, as our relatives had their wedding in the gazebo. Good luck with your decision!
  5. Welcome! Congrats on narrowing down your location! For us that was the hardest part. Although I have never been to Punta Cana, my family has travelled there and stayed at the Dreams resort. They loved it and had a blast for what they said. The only downfall for them was there was a lot of kids. Good luck with your decision!
  6. I think your dress is stunning!! I think that you need to go with what your heart it telling you. And don't go by other peoples reactions. You need to go with how you are feeling about it. I think if you fell in love with to begin with then its probably the right dress. Maybe it would be worth while going to a store to just try on a few dresses to make sure it really is your dream dress.
  7. I really like the last one, but I think it would look more couture with a bird cage veil verse a regular veil.
  8. Thanks for sharing! Yes when you get them let me know how much the duty was! I really love those shoes!
  9. I love those green shoes!! They are so amazing. Where did you get them from?
  10. I'm from alberta, and I can honestly say I have never ever heard of a wedding social. Sounds like a lot of fun though!!
  11. This is always a really tough spot to be in. For our wedding we are on a pretty tight budget and ran into problems with photographer budget. We did invite a set of our friends, a husband and wife, to our wedding. She is a photographer, just brand new out of school and amateur and had only shot a few weddings. They responded saying they were coming to our wedding, so I thought I would just suck it up and let her be our photographer, although I really wanted those amazing pictures, which Im not sure she could have delivered. It would have been an amazing opportunity for her to expand her portfolio ect. It turns out she ended up getting pregnant and they are unable to attend our wedding so it made choosing a photographer a littl easier. We ended up going with a local Jamaican photographer, Merrick Cousley, as we liked his photos and fit our budget. We did look into bringing one from Alberta, but it was going to be to much money. In my opinion it is definately worth it to splurge on photos. It puts you in a really tough spot for your family memeber. Maybe you could have her do some other photos, like engagement photos or something like that so she can still build her portfolio. I say go with the husband and wife, thats an awesome price!
  12. Welcome! We too are flying Transat on January 9th from Calgary. We had the option of going with the wedding packages provided by transat but we decided to go with the wedding packages provided by the resort. Our travel agent suggested going with the wedding packages from the resort as they are more resort specific then transat packages (you can use those packages anywhere Transat goes to). She also said that from personal experience its just easier to deal with the resort directly. I am doing all my wedding planning with the wedding planners from the resort and my travel agent is dealing strictly with the travel part of it rather then having to do both. We also chose to go with the resort packages as they offer a free one. I guess its personal preference.
  13. Beautiful planning thread!!! I love the colors you chose, so bright and fun! Congrats on your wedding!
  14. I was recently dress shopping with my good friend who will be married soon and she tried this dress on! It is a beautiful, stunning dress! She fell in love with a different dress though. I think it would be great for getting married in Spain!
  15. I think I would choose the green one, unless the reds on your dress and the kilt match. If they don't match, one is brighter or more cherry then the other, it will clash. But on the other hand the green one could make it look christmasy, but then again, who doesnt love christmas!
  16. I'm currently pondering what I will do with my dress after. I probably will end up selling it. I had a good giggle over the curtain idea!!
  17. I would love to see if the recession has affected anything from then to now. Here is mine: $1850 (From Calgary) $1600 (From Toronto) for 7 nights occupancy (double) - cheapest room option possible at your resort (inc airfare and taxes) 55- # of invites sent--actually invited 140 people+/- 17- # of guests attending Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica Resort Name 5 # of stars of resort
  18. What a great list! I have slowly been writing down things I need that I can think of, but this will be so helpful in remembering the little things I probably would have forgotten!
  19. I love Etsy, but have never heard of alchemy. What exactly does it mean?
  20. I got the email! Just wondering if there are any rules with this contest. Such as only open to residents of the US or Canada ect?
