  1. Welcome! For us photography was a deciding factor when choosing a resort. We didn't like that some resorts limited us to certain photographers. We wanted the flexibility to choose our own photographer to photograph the most important day. I know one way people get around that is by calling their photographer a guest. Also, not all of the resorts from the same chair (ex, Riu) have the same rules regarding outside vendors. If you are interested in a specific resort I would contact them and ask what their policy is regarding outside vendors and if there is a fee.
  2. Good luck with your search for the perfect place!
  3. Welcome! I think your first step should be to choose a location and a resort. From there I would contact the wedding coordinators at that specific resort and book a date. After that you can start to send out your STDs and plan everything else.
  4. Welcome! I would suggest finding a travel agent who is skilled in destination weddings. If you explain what you are looking for they should be able to provide you with a few different choices in different locations.
  5. Try looking in the specific threads. There is a thread about wedding music which includes information about such things as mariachi bands and playlists ect. Happy planning:)
  6. This is what we had playing during our prelude: You're Beautiful - James Blunt Making Memories of Us - Keith Urban You Gave my Heart A Home - Johnny Reid I Need You - Tim Mcgraw
  7. Our STDs hardly had any info on them. We knew about when we wanted to get married but didn't know the exact date as flight schedules weren't out yet, so all we included was the month (January 2012) and our resort. When we sent them out we did have a date booked with the wedding planner at the resort, but didnt want to include it as we knew it might change (and it did). Here is a picture of ours:
  8. Save the Date's without exact information???
  9. We sent out STDs about a year in advance of our wedding, when we had a date booked with the resort and had our pricing ect. We didn't include much information, just the month and resort. We then were going to send out formal invitations closer to our wedding date, but by them everyone we sent a STD to either told us they would be coming and paid their deposit, or no they wouldn't be coming.
  10. We didn't give rum favors, but our hotel did have some of the little mini bottles for sale. If I was you I would maybe contact your resort/hotel to see if they could possible get some in for you and have them there for when you arrive.
  11. They are both beautiful dresses. For me, I never even thought about a colored dress as I knew I wanted a white dress. What about buying a white dress for your ceremony and then changing into a colored dress for your reception. I know it means purchasing two dresses, but then you get the best of both worlds!
  12. I know its not really the right time of year, but have you looked at your local shopping mall. Often, you can find beautiful dresses, that can be used as bridesmaid dresses, that will be within that price range.
  13. We invited our photographer to come for dinner with us and he did. I coudln't imagine him having to go have dinner by himeself while we were all enjoying our wedding dinner.
  14. I have never heard of this before but it sounds like a great idea! I'm sure your guests will have tons of fun!
  15. Couldn't agree more. We payed for everything ourselves.
  16. I agree with the other ladies-do it while your Mexican guests aren't there. And keep it on the down low- they don't need to know you payed for all of the other guests to go.
  17. I think it definetly is an amazing idea!! I had tons of fun with the people who came with us, and I'm glad we had a few guests, but if we were to do it over again we probably would have gone just the two of us. Would have saved alot of headaches, drama, and money. Plus, we never really got any alone time as there were always people around.
  18. I gave my rings (wedding band, and ering) to my mom, who then delivered it to the room where my husband and best man were getting ready. The best man had all of them so when the minister asked for them he presented them. We also did the ering reading in our wedding ceremony.
  19. I'm just in the process of changing my name in Alberta, and so far it has been relatively easy. The only thing that sucks is once you change your drivers license you have to wait for at least 2 weeks to receive a new one in the mail, so now Im stuck waiting until I get that to change any more.
