  1. I did make a spreadsheet of all the resorts we were considering. I would share it if I had it, but unfortunately my usb drive with all my wedding stuff was stolen so I lost everything off it. I found it a great way after it was done to go back and quickly look and compare to be able to eliminate some of the resorts.
  2. Check out this thread, you will find tons of information there to hopefully answer all your questions: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/51518/any-gran-bahia-principe-runaway-bay-brides-out-there/3620#post_1770246
  3. Is there any way you could change your wedding time to either earlier in the day or later in the afternoon. The very hot sun is usually from about 12-4pm, if you could avoid this time it might be a little cooler. Also, try to choose a spot where there is some shade to get away from the hot sun.
  4. Thats exciting to pick a resort! Happy wedding planning!

  9. I am not from Calgary, but live in Medicine Hat. We found it really helpful to sit down and make a list of what we want in the resort, such as all inclusive, fairly large resort, lots of dining options, variety of wedding packages and options ect. From there we (I should say I!!) did tons of research on this site, trip advisor and any other sites i could find with info. We were able to narrow our search down to a few different locations and particular reports. From there we used a travel agent to help us with more info and pricing. Good luck with your search!
  10. I think this is really a tough decision. For us photos were a priority for us, however, we didn't have a large budget for photography. We debated between bringing a photographer with us and hiring a local photographer from the island. We looked at a few different photographers to bring with us and all of them were way out of our budget. It would have been great to be able to bring one with us seeing as you usually get more bang for your buck. We might have been able to afford to bring a photographer with us if we were able to share with another couple getting married at the same place within a few days, but that was impossible. We ended up hiring a local Jamaican photographer, Merrick Cousley, and we are so happy we did. His photos are phenomenal and his price was amazing. I also feel that because he is used to shooting weddings in a Caribbean location he was familiar with the sun and sky and such that goes along with tropical destinations. In the end we chose to hire a local photographer rather then bring our own to save us money without having to compromise quality of pictures.
  11. I had wanted to do bright colors, such as orange and pink, but my fiance said no way, to girly. We came to a comprimise and ended up with turqoise and lime green.
  12. You are allowed to be picky about your wedding shoes!! You only get married once. Like others said I dont think many people will comment on your fingers. My best friend had her tips done in a blue that matched her bridesmaid dresses and I dont think many people noticed at all. Everyone will be looking at how beautiful you are in your dress that they wont have time to worry about nails. I did mine french white and had two blue gems on my thumbs as blue was my color. My toes were a bright color that went with my blue shoes. I say have fun and do what you want!!
  13. We sent out our STDs to everyone, including extended family. That way they cant say they werent invited or thought of!
  14. We would have had the plus ones at the wedding events. I think it would have been pretty rude not to. Like you I was worried that it would put us over our budget, but we didnt have many single guests at all. I guess it depends how many extras it could mean (for us it was 3 at the most) so it wouldnt have really affected much in regards to budget.
  15. My brothers live together and I sent them each one individually. I wasnt worried that they woudln't arrive the same time, at least they will each get their own addressed to them.
  16. We had a couple single guests to our wedding and we gave them the option of bringing a guest. We left the term guest wide open so it could include say a brother or sister or something. All our single guests chose to come alone, and in the end had to pay more for a single room as they were on there own.
  17. I was really happy with this resort, its beautiful and a great place to get married. However, I was married in January before all these major changes. One of the main reasons we chose this resort was due to it being much cheaper for the wedding packages and vendor fees. But that sounds like it has changed. They absolutely made my wedding day special. Although they do more then one wedding per day I never felt like I was just another bride, but the most important one. I never saw the other weddings or wedding partys that were married on the same day as mine. They do a pretty good job of accomodating any requests to make your day special.
  18. My dress was a taffeta. I specifically told the lady when I was at the store trying on dresses that I didnt want satin. From some friends who had destination weddings, one who wore satin, she said it really was hot, but she thinks it would have been hot no matter what she was wearing. My dress was really light, I was hot, but not too hot that it was uncomfortable. It was such an amazing day that that was the last of my worries to be honest.
