  1. Never used Freeze-Dried Rose Petals. Much cheaper than fresh petals...classier than silk petals! I bought them for my wedding but didn't have room in my luggage to take them. 3 different kinds: 1) 34 cups Lilac Purple - selling for $50 2) 162 cups Corvette Red - selling for $260 3) 60 cups Multicolour, slightly imperfect - selling for $75 Pickup from downtown Toronto only. Perfect for aisles or throwing at wedding or to sprinkle on tables.
  2. Hi, Just wondering if anyone has used Caribbean Celebrations as an outside decor company. How was your experience? Thanks!
  3. For any brides in Toronto who want to get the paperwork out of the way before you leave, we just had our signing with Rev. Rudy Heezen. He was great! We didn't want it to feel like anything special because we didn't want to take away from the actual wedding day. Rudy was totally accommodating, showed up on time, and was very easygoing. He charged $125 to come to my condo and do the signing. I think it's a great option if anyone doesn't want to do the paperwork in their destination. Hi info is at www.rudyheezen.com.
  4. Hi all, I ordered my wedding invitations from India and I love love love them. But I over-ordered, and I have 45 leftovers! They are so unusual, something like this would cost $12 - $15 per invite in Canada. I've removed the personalized inserts, so all you would have to do is print your own info on cardstock and slip it inside. The envelopes have my parents' address on the back flap, but you could easily just cover it with a label of your own mailing address. Here's what I have: - 45 envelopes 10 x 7'' Cream coloured with light damask print all over, gold and maroon damask design at bottom - 45 invites, 10 x 7'' Cream coloured with damask textured design allover, gold single damask embossed in centre, open the card and there's a vellum flap with light gold print all over, textured corner flap to hold inserts in - 50 gold sticker seals to close envelope I'm asking $75 USD for the invites, plus shipping costs (or best offer!) Please let me know if you'd like to see more pics
  5. Hi all, I ordered my wedding invites from India and they are stunning. My mom made me order quite a few extra as we have a lot of extended family, but we still had leftovers. I don't want them to go to waste, they really are unusual and to get something like them here in Canada would cost $12-$15 per invite. I have removed the inserts with all personal information, so you could just print your insert info on cardstock and slip them into these invite covers. The envelopes have my parent's address on the back flap, but this can be easily covered with a sticker of your own return address. The envelopes are cream with light gold damask design allover. At the bottom there is a dark gold and maroon damask pattern. The invites are textured with a light damask print on the front, and a gold damask design embossed in the centre. Open them up and there is a vellum sheet that has a light gold damask print all over. The inserts fit beneath the vellum with an embossed corner to hold them in place. They also come with a gold sticker seal to close the flap. Pictures don't do them justice, these are a steal! I have 45 invites, envelopes and seals. Asking $75 plus shipping costs or best offer! Please let me know if you would like more closeup photos.
  6. Hey ladies, I'm about to start on my programs, table cards etc. Does anyone have suggestions on where to buy nice cardstock (pref. shimmery)? Looking for a place where you can buy in bulk, not the single sheets Michael's sells. Thanks!
  7. I'm looking for the magenta chiffon J Crew dresses. I saw that one bride bought her BM j crew dresses on ebay - anyone else have luck with that?
  8. Hey ladies, My Hindu-Christian destination wedding is in January at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana. Since there seems to be quite a few of us planning Hindu or Sikh weddings, I thought I'd give you a rundown of what I've discovered during the planning process (Warning: this could be a long post!) Travel Agent I think this process has been relatively stress-free for me because of our AMAZING travel agent, L'Escape Destination Weddings. They're based in Toronto, but I communicated with them from across the country when I was moving around for work. They've been nothing but professional and worked really hard to get us a great group rate. Jasprit and Raun (the owners) make you feel like family. Because we will have about 75 guests and 3 full days of wedding events, we are taking them with us to the resort to help us coordinate everything. A bonus, Jasprit is Sikh and knows a lot about Indian weddings and can anticipate a lot of your questions and concerns. Location Jamaica has a significant Hindu population and we considered having our wedding there. They have a pandit, mendhi artists, and an Indian restaurant as far as I know. We just couldn't find a resort we liked enough, otherwise we would have gone to Jamaica! Here's some contact info: Mystic India Restaurant - Kareena @ 876-4224301 Pandit Sharma - 876-928-1517 Mendhi - Pooja and Santoshi 876-927-3731 Indian DJs - Ravi ([email protected]) and Alex ([email protected]) Montego Bay Indian Association - [email protected] I haven't tried any of these vendors but at least that would get you started. We ended up choosing the Dominican because of the stunning beaches and the beautiful resort. We will have to fly a few of our vendors in but I'm ok with that - our pandit is one we know well and will make the ceremony really personal. Our TA also found us an Indian restaurant in Punta Cana where we might take our guests. I've also spoken with DJ Mannia - he has some Bollywood music and could incorporate that into his playlist! Resorts There are a few resorts that actually have Indian restaurants as their a la carte restaurants, which would be helpful if you have a lot of Indian guests. Here are the ones I've found: Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton, Jamaica (Bhogali Restaurant) Occidental Grand Xcaret, Mexico (D'Oriental Restaurant) Excellence Playa Mujeres, Mexico (Basmati Restaurant) Jolly Beach, Antigua (Utsav Restaurant) Again, I haven't tested these places, just did some research. Our events We're doing everything we can to make our ceremonies authentic. On the day before the wedding, we're doing prayers in the morning and my pithi. In the afternoon, we're having a mendhi party (flying the artist in from Canada) and in the evening a Sangeet on the beach. The next morning will be our Hindu ceremony at the gazebo (which is basically a ready-made mandap!) Our pandit has done quite a few DWs and he brings everything you need for all the prayers and setup with him. The ceremony will be followed by a light lunch. My aunties are baking some Indian snacks (nastho) and we'll be serving those as well. In the late afternoon we're having a Christian ceremony followed by the reception! Fusion elements Here are some ideas if you don't want to fly in vendors but still want some Indian elements: Jai malas (flower garlands) - this is a Hindu tradition...you could have the resort make some beautiful ones with fresh flowers Henna - Bring some pre-made cones and print out patterns from the Internet...then have your most artistic friends go to it! Wear a sari - even if it's only for a portion of the reception Wear traditional gold jewelry with your white dress Bring a CD of Indian music to play at the reception Decorate your wedding stationary (programs, place cards) with an Indian design...paisley or henna-inspired I will continue to post as I plan...hope it helps!
  9. Hey Jenn, I am also planning a Hindu-Christian destination wedding. Ours is in Punta Cana! It's been an interesting experience so far...message me if you have any questions!
  10. So many great ideas on here! I want my bridesmaids to wear the same colour and fabric, but they can each pick their own styles. I want to buy off-the-rack so they can wear the dresses again...J Crew has some beautiful options but they're a bit expensive... Does anyone have any suggestions on other stores? Thanks!
  11. Hi ladies, Does anyone know of a Henna artist in DR? I'm looking for the real kind, not the weird 'black henna' kind...someone who would be able to do bridal henna. Thanks! Nisha
  12. Hi UK brides! Congratulations to all of you. I live in Canada and I'm getting married at the Majestic Elegance in Punta Cana, DR. I have a lot of guests coming from the UK - we are hoping to book them a package through Thomson Holidays. I'm wondering if any of you can recommend a travel agent that works with Thomson? Thanks!
  13. Congrats! I'm booked for Jan 9, so I'll probably see you there
