  1. *Oops! Pardon the error. "The hike up took us a little less about an hour..." should have been "The hike up took us a little less than an hour...."
  2. Thanks!! Have already started planning and have a venue! Congrats and happy planning to you!!
  3. Thanks everyone! @Tennyt1: Cool!!
  4. I finally shared a blurb on my engagement story. Here is the link: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/66896/engaged-in-paradise#post_1509963
  5. I've been asked to share my engagement story so here it goes. I traveled to Hawaii with my boyfriend (at the time) for one of my close friend's wedding. We arrived several days prior to the wedding so we could spend some time with all of our close friends and their partners to do some sight-seeing. So the day after we arrived, we decided to hike Diamond Head Crater Park early in the morning. The hike up took us a little less about an hour, as we stopped to admire the view along some of the points and take photos. At the top of the crater there was a lookout and then a ladder up to a smaller platform elevated a bit higher. While my friends looked around on the lower area, my boyfriend and I admired the view from this smaller platform and took lots of pictures. Then he told me he wanted to read me something. He pulled out a folded piece of paper from his pocket and started to read a poem. I thought it was just the romantic in him sharing either a poem he found or some song lyrics, but the very last line he read was, "There's only one question in the world I want to ask you now....." and pulled out a ring from his pocket, got down on one knee, and continued, "Will you marry me?" I pretty much cried and hyperventilated, forgetting to say yes until a woman who was on the platform with us screamed when she noticed what was happening, demanded we give her partner the camera, and then told my fiance to get down on his knee again so they could take a picture. At that point she asked, "Did she say yes?? Did you say yes??" I was still crying but I said yes emphatically. My friends soon came up to get us to go (they had no idea what had happened) so I told them what had just transpired. They celebrated with me and then the word spread to the lower level apparently as I heard everyone clap and cheer. Needless to say, I felt like I had wings on my feet as we took less than half an hour to get down to the bottom. My fiance did an excellent job of surprising me and I couldn't have thought of a better place to be proposed to than on top of an extinct crater with the view of the blue ocean and downtown Waikiki in the distance. I felt like I was on top of the world. Here's one of the pictures of the view we had.
  6. Thanks! On Oahu, at the top of Diamond Head Crater.
  7. Congratulations! What a romantic engagement story! Hawaii is such a romantic setting for just that!
  8. Aww.... what a great place to get engaged! I love the view from the Empire State Building, even if it does get freezing cold in the fall and winter months!
  9. Hi Shannon! Congratulations! I'm new to the site and saw your post. I'm curious as to what you decided and if you found a place for your wedding! Inquiring minds (well, my inquiring mind) would like to know!
  10. Thank you ladies! @fmichelle: I will be sharing my engagement story but trying to figure out where to post it.
  11. Hi Hollybee! Awesome! I was looking at the Cabo Surf Hotel. It's beautiful there! The Cabo Surf Hotel is close to where we're getting married because I remember seeing the Cabo Surf Hotel on a walk from the beach when I was staying at the Coral Baja. How's your planning going?
  12. Congratulations! I'm getting married on the same day! Hope you're able to find a great location! Good luck!
  13. Just saying hello as a newbie in this forum. Got engaged last month on a trip to Hawaii and decided to get married on 11/11/11 in Los Cabos, Mexico! So excited!
  14. I'm not a traditional type of girl so my fiance knew diamonds were not for me. Since I love sapphires, that was what he chose all by himself. And I love it!
  15. I will most likely bring it back myself since I really don't want to burden anyone else with it - unless someone in my family offers to take it back for me.
  16. Wow. I don't even think that NOT having a welcome dinner crossed my mind! One of my closest friends just had a DW wedding in Hawaii and she had a welcome dinner so I guess I just thought it was a necessary thing, despite the fact that a bunch of us had already been there for several days prior to the welcome dinner. But after reading this discussion, it makes me feel so much better if I decide not to have one because all of my guests will most likely be arriving on different days. What a relief! Thanks ladies!
  17. I just ordered this dress earlier this month: http://www.brides.com/wedding-dresses-style/wedding-dresses/gallery/dresses/vendor/designer/demetriosillusions/detail/186631?docPos=48&designer=demetriosillusions& So excited!
  18. We're thinking of going to the marketplaces in Los Cabos and getting some Mexican pottery pieces as party favors, so that the guests can take home something that's Mexico-themed. I've seen lots of great souvenir-ish things while I was there a few years ago so I know that there will be plenty of great things to choose from!
  19. Great post! It's very reaffirming cuz I've been doing a lot of this and have purchases quite a few things already for a great deal! But I forgot about the Dollar Store; gotta check that out one of these days! Thanks for sharing!
  20. At first I was determined to just get married legally in Los Cabos because I wanted that specific day to be our anniversary. But the more I thought about it, I just felt that it would make things more simpler and less stress free if we get married legally in the States prior to going to Mexico. We live in New York and it's $40 to get married here, without any extra paperwork, waiting, blood tests, etc. So we'll probably do that a few months prior to heading to Los Cabos, but for us, the wedding in Los Cabos will be our special day regardless of what the paper says. But I totally understand wanting to just go through with the legal ceremony in Los Cabos to make that THE day. Ultimately, it'll have to be something you and your fiance need to discuss and decide.
  21. Hello!! I'll be getting married in Cabo on November 11, 2011, on the beach near Coral Baja Resort. Planning, planning, constantly planning. I love Los Cabos and I can't wait to be there with my fiancé!
  22. Sorry. Am on my phone and didn't see the other picture. It's beautiful too. I think ultimately you will have to decide which one will bring you less, or no, regrets. Paying later for a dress you love or sticking with the one you bought. Tough! :-/
  23. Your dress is pretty but it does need some work and steaming before one can tell how it really looks on you. I'm not sure how much alterations and steaming will cost but I'd check out David's Bridal if you're really watching your budget. They do have some beautiful dresses for less than $1000. Maybe you might want to check them out and do a cost comparison. Good luck!
  24. Hello!! I'll be getting married on 11/11/11 in Los Cabos, Mexico! I can't wait! I've bought my dress, found a photographer, found a ceremony site, sent out my Save-the-Dates, and am waiting on the menu for the reception dinner. Will be making my own invitations and am still figuring out other things.
