  1. I really think it depends on where your destination wedding is and what time of year. For example, my wedding is in March in the Dominican Republic. This is peak season therefore sending out invites 2 months prior is not enough time for all of our guests to book as it is likely the resort will sell out. I sent out my invitations 8 months in advance, which is a lot but we were trying to get an early booking bonus. I see your wedding is in May so this may be something you want to consider as well. I found that people were constantly asking us about the wedding and wanting more information so getting out the invites sooner than later was easier.
  2. As PP said, the weather will be similar whether you choose Mayan or Punta Cana. Therefore, you have to decide whats important to you. Generally, Mayan is cheaper than Punta Cana. Punta Cana however is known for its beautiful beaches so if thats what you're looking for it might be worth considering over the Mayan. I was deciding between the two as well. I suggest finding a couple resorts you like in both places and reading lots of reviews. Then based on prices and exactly what you are looking for narrow it down further. Good luck and happy planning!
  3. I sent out my invites last month for my wedding in March. However, we are trying to get people to book by November if they want an early booking bonus. But I definitely think you're good on your timeline.
  4. I'm not doing a site inspection. I just did lots of research based on reviews and the great people from this website. I'm trusting everything will be good. And personally I want the first time I'm there to be for my wedding, more exciting in my mind.
  5. Great job!! They look great. Its so exciting to have them done and your guests will love them.
  6. I love those photobooks! I'm looking for something like that for my welcome books. Great find!
  7. As for the paper I used papercircle.ca They are a canadian company and their prices are fantastic! They were so great to work with and shipped really quickly. I checked and they do have pink metallic cardstock. We used 1 cartridge of ink and we did 50 invites. We have an HP inkjet printer. As for cost it actually is pretty decent. In order to make our invites we used one half piece of metallic cardstock to make the cover. One piece costs $0.38 so half is $0.19. We only used one sheet of paper to make the inside pages as you cut it in half and print on both sides. Cost of one sheet of metallic paper was $0.28. We bought the ribbon from the dollar store and we used only 2 rolls total for 50 invites. I'm not even sure of the name of the printshop we used. My FI took them to a place near his work. There should be someone who can do them for you. It wasn't very expensive and they printed, cut and folded them for us. We did use a corner cutter on them, which I borrowed from my sister. My last piece of advice would be that if I were to do it again though I wouldn't use the ribbon because it ended up being too thick and we had to put extra postage on them. So I would just use staples and then you would only need one stamp to send them out. If you have any further questions feel free to ask! I attached my template as I know templates sure helped me when I was making mine. updated J&T passport invites BDW.ppt
  8. I am bringing my own photographer and knew I was going to do that before I even began looking at resorts. So for me I would not choose a resort that wouldn't allow outside vendors. I'm not using any other outside vendors but it would still anger me if the resort didn't allow it because they are creating a monopoly and can charge brides whatever price they want for the services then.
  9. The etsy store for the monogram is called: DestinationIDo We took the covers to a print shop because the cardstock was too thick to go through our printer but we printed the rest of the pages at home. We have an ink jet printer so we had to be really careful to let the ink dry properly before touching to prevent smudges but it worked out fine.
  10. I really don't think there's anyway to avoid it. Pretty well every week in March someone is having spring break. Its just going to be something you put up with. The only advice I can give is not to pick a really cheap resort where lots of party people might go.
  11. First of all I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who has posted their templates, inspiration pictures and tutorials as they were hugely helpful to me. Second, I wanted to mention that the monogram on my first inside page was designed by a fellow bride, futuremrstgun. She so graciously helped me out with making my monogram which turned out absolutely perfectly. I believe she has an etsy shop available now and as soon as I get the name from her I will post it on here so other brides can use her services as she was so great to work with. She came up with many different monograms in my colour and was quick to respond to any corrections or changes I wanted made. So here are the invites. If anyone has any questions about how I made them or materials please feel free to ask.
  12. I agree papercircle is awesome! Their prices were way way cheaper than papergarden. My paper arrived in 2 days and it came with a personalized hand written thank you note. It was such a nice touch. I would definitely recommend this company.
