Moon Palace 2012 Brides
krsmith replied to krsmith's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
Thanks guys!!! The support really helps! I knew it was going to happen in some form, but I didn't think people were going to be so conceited say I was planning a DW wedding just so THEY couldn't come! I also have tried to have low expectations, and quite honestly the Aunt that said that is not someone I really cared whether or not she came. It's just insulting! I know in the end everyone that is important will make it happen to be there! Don't be afraid to send out STDs! I expected some negativity, but I have also gotten A LOT of positive feedback! I have a feeling that the people that complain will still probably go...it's just amazing how people turn it into THEIR day and forget it's YOURS! -

OK so I have experienced my first real disapproval's about our DW this week. We sent out our STD almost 2 weeks ago and people started getting them last week. The 2 people that have said something are my grandma and my aunt. They both said that because we were doing not only a DW but that we were having it on a Tuesday, that we obviously were making hard for certain people to go! I knew that I was going to have some people probably complain about the expenses and what not, but to say that we are trying to exclude people really upsets me! I'm hoping that this is the extent of the drama, but I'm sure being only a month into it, it's just starting! -
We are thinking about doing this song my Uncle showed me...not sure if it will be first dance or during the slideshow we are doing! "To show you my love" by Mike Schmid Super sweet!!!

Completely off topic, but is anyone else's profile/subject layout different than it used to be? Like the threads you posted in show up as YOUR last post in the thread and not the title of the thread? It doen't tell you when other people have posted either! I wonder if its just mine....but I don't like it! -
Where did you buy your fake bouquets?
krsmith replied to miznunu2010's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
This is great! I really like this idea. Flowers in Mexico are ridiculous! My bouquet is included though in our package...but I don't think it will be what I like. I wonder if there is a way to use it for something else... -

I'm trying to figure out HOW to negotiate and WHO to negotiate with! We have a TA who did give us slightly cheaper rates but not much. Apparently Feb is "peak"...which I thought was strange since it is before spring breaks and what not. I guess Vday is peak. I don't know if I posted the rates on here earlier but this is what my TA quoted me: Rates below apply to Moon Palace quoted "per person per night" and include all taxes/fees, valid for stays January 4 - April 14, 2012: Deluxe Resort View: $214.00 per person based on double / $392.00 per night single / $206.00 per person triple / $197.00 per person quad Superior Deluxe Garden View*: $238.00 per person based on double / $440.00 per night single / $229.00 per night triple / $218.00 per person quad Superior Deluxe Ocean View: $250.00 per person based on double / $464.00 per night single / $242.00 per night triple / $230.00 per person quad Superior Deluxe Ocean Front: $256.00 per person based on double / $476.00 per night single (maximum occupancy 2 Adults) Concierge Level: $272.00 per person based on double / $506.00 per night single (maximum occupancy 2 Adults) Children 4-17 years pay $52.00 per night. Child rate applies only when child shares room with 2 or more adults I'm still trying to figure out how to get around the ridiculous deposit we are supposed to put down to hold a block of rooms ($2,050). We will see!!!! -

Uhhhhhhhh.... Wow I don't know what to say about this video....we were thinking about doing that too but I couldn't even sit through 5 mins! What a JOKE!!! I could do that! Hell to the NO! I agree...DJ it is! Who are you going through? I wonder where they were for this? I am trying to figure out where I want to reception. MP sent some pics, but its hard to really see what they would look like! We want to have a slideshow too so we would need a screen/projector and a place to set that up! I need to print out what Katie sent me. The way it looks on the computer is WAY confusing! -
Thank you! I just got back from the post office, and each one was about $1.73 for postage. Not too bad!! All together it cost me $79.58. I was expecting MUCH worse, so I was happy! I do have 1 international one...I have a feeling that one will be PRICEY! I couldn't send it because I didn't know what country it was going to (My FI aunt and uncle)...its Sweden or Switzerland...you have to know FOR SURE and neither of us did. Oh well!

Lady Di's GINORMOUS planning thread!
krsmith replied to Lady_Di's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
WOW!! You are on fire!!! Dang! Looks like it will be a BEAUTIFUL wedding! -
So the very first thing I thought of when we decided to do a DW was MIB invites! Don't know why, but they made me really excited! It was A LOT of time and work, but SO worth it! I'm hoping they will really get everyone pumped to go! Anyways here are my MIB and how I did it! Supplies: 50 plastic bottles/corks 50 boxes 1 bag of small sea shells 1 bag of beach sand (http://www.sandartsupplies.com) 1 roll of thick hemp thread 1 roll of packaging twine Glue Gun (Michaels) 100 mini Starfish 50 small Starfish (http://www.qualityshells.com) 50 Stickers (http://www.zazzle.com) Labels Packing Raffia Parchment Paper in Copper (Staples) Drink Umbrellas Plastic Palm Trees (Sorry,I can't remember where I got these!) Once I had all my supplies my next task was coming up with the actual STD! I ended up using some of the same wording as another bride had posted on hers (Thank you!!) I can't say I am good with coming up with clever/cute wording! I made it on iPages (Mac), and used "landscape" as the paper layout. I was then able to fit 2 STD on 1 sheet of paper! I figured half of a sheet of paper would fit rolled up into the bottle. After cutting each piece of paper in half, it was time to roll them up! This was really a 2 person job and luckily my FI was willing to help! I rolled (using a pencil) and he tied each end with the packaging twine. We attached a 3rd string to one end so we could hang it outside the bottle for easy removal. I figured out how much sand I could put in each bottle, and went for it using my kitchen scale. I then put about 15 sea shells in, and then 2 mini star fish. After that I put a mini umbrella and palm tree inside. I sometimes had to use a pen/pencil to shove them in there. Once everything was inside the bottle, it was time to dress it up! I ordered personalized stickers from Zazzle, and stuck those on the front. I then cut the hemp and wound it around the top of the bottle and then tied it in a knot. I took the larger star fish I had and hot glued them to the piece of twine I left hanging out of the bottle. To finish it all up I dabbed a little Vanilla Lime fragrance on the twine (I couldn't find Coconut for the life of me!). I got the template from the labels we had bought (Avery) and created our address labels and the "if this message should reach you" label. So this is the finished project! They go out tomorrow just in time for Valentines Day! Thank you to all the wonderful ladies for all your ideas that helped inspire me to create these! Next project: Boarding Pass Invites!

Haha! Thanks!!! Its amazing how organized I have become trying to prepare everything! I am on the same page as you. I do NOT want to haul a bunch of big bulky stuff down with me AND back! No Thanks! I will have enough to bring down with OTT, linens, and my own wardrobe! I will have to check out Luna bazaar...I did find some sites a while back that were pretty cheap...Katie seemed kind of confused that I was going to bring my own lanterns...I wonder if you have to provide the string? Vgirl's thread is saved in my "bookmarks"...all of her ideas are so similar to what I have invisioned! I actually bought her pink crinoline to go under my dress! Eeeeeekkkkk! This planning stuff is hard but SOOOOO fun and worth it at the same time! I think I might have to start my own planning thread to keep all of my thoughts and plans straight!!! I got your PM. I hope it helps! I can provide you with more details if you decide you want to do it! -

I have also been in contact with Katie from Deco Cancun! She has been really great so far! I think we will be using them for centerpieces and lounge set-up. I want to do A LOT of lanterns in different colors of pink and white, and was thinking I would bring my own. She said they DID have other colors than white, but they were SOOO expensive! I think it was like $5 per lantern! Yikes! I think we will bring our own and make "throwies" when we get there...the only thing I'm not sure of is how to string them! Any ideas??? Linens- I will probably bring my own...that is also something that is super expensive to rent. I think $4/chair and the runners are $7 believe? There are lots of great websites out there you can get those MUCH cheaper! Plus I have a creative DIY project I want to try for the table...scalloped edges!! I thought it was cute...I will do mine in pink though! Flowers- I think I might do what another bride on here did and order a bunch of flowers from a local florist and put them together myself. With all my research, as much as I like the idea of real touch, they are just about as expensive as getting them from the resort! I know you can have them forever...but what would I do with them!? Bridesmaids: I have NO CLUE what I'm doing for them! I am going to buy their dresses since they are spending so much already (and they bought their own dresses last round), so I'm trying to find something affordable. My mom found the perfect-bridesmaid-dresses.com, and they seem pretty reasonable, BUT ordering online scares me! I want something flowy and beachy...this is what I have envisioned (but light pink with a fuchsia sash): This is my dress...I actually got it in May. Its not the best picture since it doesn't show the shape, but it is beautiful! I ordered it in Ivory instead of the blue/silver shown here. I will post a pic of me in it as soon as I get one! I will be wearing a cathedral length veil too! We are also probably going to go with Studio Suits for the guys' attire. HOWEVER I am worried that because they are linen, they will wrinkle the second any of them sits and will look all frumpy the rest of the time. I did order swatches from them to see all their colors. FI wants to wear all white, and have the GM in a beige color. I also will be sending out my MIB STDs tomorrow! I will post all my pics tonight! Yay! Thank you ladies for being so helpful! Everyones ideas help to inspire all of us! And if you are anything like me inspiration is NEEDED! haha! -

I guess that will have to be my next move...AYE I hate negotiating...not a skill I was born with. Maybe that will be my FI job! Any suggestions on how to go about doing that? I don't feel like I have a ton of leverage...
