Ipod or DJ????
JB321 replied to wilsonj2's topic in Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation Resorts Weddings
For the wedding we chose the full band/ house (all musicians) for the cocktail and beginning of the reception. I figured everyone would be eating and we'll have the first dances speeches etc. And then the 2nd half it's time to get crazy so we went for te DJ because I doubt the bands going to play Black eyed Peas or something lol. Plus I wanted to have all the party music to really have a ball. We went with the violinst for the walk down the aisle instead of a band because my wedding coordinator (Sheka) told me that the band would have to set up at the site and then move to the reception/cocktail site afterwords. The thought of all the moving around equipment/ pieces and them setting up at another location made me a little uneasy. And I want things to go smoothly. I wanted guests to just arrive to the reception site and have the band there playing music and not arriving with them and setting up. Please consider that incase your reception is on a site further away from your ceremony site because if you are going to use that steel drum band in the reception, they may need to set up. Little things like that can take away from the feel. Also a little tidbit. I youtubed a few videos and saw this one video of a couple was having their first dance and a sandals crew member was in the way of the video camera, setting up etc while they danced. I'm not a bridezilla, but I did mention to the coordinator that I don't want anyone in my shots, walking around etc during my ceremony, or making distractions setting up tables etc. EVERYTHING must be ready to go and run smoothly. Feel free to send me a PM message anytime. We can share notes -
Martha Stewart theme pics...???
JB321 replied to JB321's topic in Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation Resorts Weddings
Thanks for the replies guys. I've seen all the pics they offer online and in the books, but I want to see some real weddings. Particulary the Chic and Natural theme, but any theme and cakes would do. Floral arrangments would also be helpful. I have yet to decide on the flowera and I know we can mix and match from different themes. We're doing the chic and Natural for 75 people. I put in a bunch of add ons as well to my package. I Would love to see actual wedding pics and a 4 tier cake if anyone has a pic. Anything would help. Thanks! -
I'm a mywedding.com fan as well. Great page you have!

Hey! I've read the same reviews. My fiance visited the resort in 08 and we loved it! Now we're going to have our wedding there in May 2011. Main reasons being that we loved the service we recieved and we're familiar with it. Plus it was affordable so I knew guests could there easily. What I love about the resort: So many things to do! There are shows, parties, activities such as golf, scaba diving. And so many restaurants to choose from. Plus the staff there was awesome! Never recieved such great service and we travel a lot! What I not so loved: Wish there was a bigger beach, but oh well still had a blast! You and your guests will have a great time. The resort is so large it took us like 2 days to see the whole thing. I mean I still don't think we saw everything. I had a great time and I think you will too! Everyone is entitiled to their own opinions. But if your fun loving and love an adventure. I would def suggest this resort. Also you should do their Dunns River party Cruise. It was a lot of fun! I think it was like 45 bucks. They took us snorkling and to the falls and we danced with different guests on the boat. It was so much time and we met great people.

Sandals Photography - Yes or No??
JB321 replied to Shonda's topic in Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation Resorts Weddings
I am also very concerned about the photos. I saw a few and some were nice and others were not the best. It wasn't the best quality. I guess it depends on your taste. I want very artistic/ natural photos and less posed. Since we ca';t choose our own photographers I guess you have to HOPE that you get a good one. I chose their biggest package, but am also going to try to do my best to bring in my own photographer as well since photos are my biggest concern. I don't want to risk it. -
Congrats! My fiance and I chose Sandals Ocho RIos. Main reason being that it was our first trip together so it was sort of sentimental. Also we were familiar with the resort and loved how big and advneturous it was. There were so many things to do! My third reason being that it was more affordable to fly there from the east coast then St Lucia and some of the other resorts. (St Lucia was our 2nd choice) As far as the reception/ceremony we ind of went a little crazy. We did the 3 hour reception, band, dj and a bunch of other extras. We wanted something traditional with a twist. And it is very hard to get what you want at Sandals with their basic options. IIf your on a tight budget I would suggest reserving a restaurant, but I would wait until after you get there to make a final choice because you'll want to get a feel for it. A private reception is a bit more personal, but Im sure your guests will have fun either way! See how you do on your budget, and make the choice then! Fell free to send me a message, I'd love to share with you different things I found out! TTYL Congrats!

Ipod or DJ????
JB321 replied to wilsonj2's topic in Sandals, Beaches, and Royal Plantation Resorts Weddings
(Wedding May 14, 2011 Sandals Ocho Rios) I know what you mean! Music is a big thing to me as well. Here's a couple of things that I planned so far: - I noticed that from youtube videos that somethimes they have a little radio or something that plays music while you wal down the aisle and the quality wasn't great, so I told them I wanted a violinst to play while we walk down the aisle. Not sure if you asked about this? The music isn't "wow" worthy and pretty boring. You can also bring an ipod for that if you like. - For the reception we went with a band and also a dj. My wedding planner is great and said that we can also send songs to the DJ. So for you first dance etc, they can play the songs you really want to hear. As long as you tell them your musical tastes and songs you must have, it should be fine. Many Dj's use Ipods and other technology now a days anyways so it's difficult to really screw it up. I've been told they are local DJs that Dj at many events/clubs. I'm still waiting to hear from an actual bride that has had a dj and band... Hope that sort of helped. -
I chose 3 pm. Wanted to get enough light for photos etc. and still have great reception pics with the sun setting.
