I talked to a few different TAs around the beginning too and it was an easy decision for me to choose because all but one had problems returning my emails even though they were all 'Destination Weddings Specialists'. When I found the one I am currently using, she was always quick to respond to my emails and she got me some test quotes before I was ready to book which were better than I could find online so I knew she was the one and stopped my search. I definitely recommend to look around and be honest with your TA. If they can't deliver, they have to understand that you will want to look elsewhere. Judging from these forums, dealing with a bad TA is an awfully stressful experience and something I want to avoid!

Hi astef, I was going through this dilemma too. My timeline plan was about the same but in the end I decided to get my invites out sooner since my TA got great rates at about 10 months out and told me theres a big chance they'd be going up.. and sure enough, I saw them creeping up every month so I changed my plans and rushed to get them out. I just sent them now about 8 months before the date. About the 30 day thing, I just put a section in my invitation that says that my TA and I will be contacting everyone really soon via email with the booking information so they know it's coming. At the end of next week, just about when everyone should be getting their invites, I'm going to get my TA to get the quotes. She packages up all the information nicely into a pdf document with resort info and prices and I'll be sending that to everyone's email and they'll have the full 30 day to decide if they want to put a deposit down. The invites were sooooo much labour! I don't think I could handle the stress of trying to do them as quickly as possible after getting the quotes. Hope that helps!

I went to two stores and tried on about 4-5 at each place.

Congrats on your wedding! I haven't been to DR in August (I went in November once and the weather was perfect then although it sprinkled at least a little bit everyday, but before your knew it the sun was out again) but I go to Cuba all the time and they share similar weather. The one time we went in August.. it was unbearably hot!! Like, shower at least twice a day and too hot to suntan type weather. If we were outside, it had to be in the shade and it was counting the seconds til we could be in AC. We were there for 2 weeks that time and in the two weeks, we were hit with Hurricane Ike and Gustavo. The good thing is though that the hurricanes only last for 1-2 days. The rest of the days were perfect and sunny again. We heard that the people in the resorts weren't allowed to leave the hotel those days. If there is a hurricane coming, you'll be able to see it in the weather forecast a bit ahead of time so if one is coming on your wedding day, you could probably just reschedule it to one of the other days that week. We're doing an off-resort wedding too and reception wise, we are saving a ton that way..($30 for a 3 tier cake? sign me up, lol) but it's way more stress and planning than if you were to do a resort wedding. If you're up for it, I'd look into that. I agree, although the resorts are all-inclusive, a wedding can start to get pretty pricey with every little added upgrade.

i'm using mywedding.com. I chose based on design.. that one had the design I liked the most.

I use my home printer. It was a cheap printer that came with my computer as a promotion. I've hard a big share of printers though and I used to do a lot of home printing for my business. As long as you know how to set the proper settings they do the trick For the one I have now, it prints up to letter size (8.5x11). If I'm printing on cardstock I have to feed it through the back opening so that it goes through straight and I make sure to set the right paper and feed settings on the print options.

I would have done exactly what you did. I have very little tolerance for ill-intended selfish actions.. What did he think would come out of telling you it's over 3 months before the wedding? I would have maybe said to give it a try if he had said it's over and meant it, and then decided that maybe it's worth it to work it out. But to say it as a joke?? What the hell, seriously?? Sorry but, I wouldn't look back. You said you were having problems already and usually these problems will only intensify after the marriage. And with the little stunt he just pulled, it's clear that its his way or else and that he won't be willing to work out the issues and compromise together.

I'm going the all BM's route.

2nd vote for ashley style sandals. I'm thinking of going with an embellished gladiator-style too because I just hate the look of flip flops with a wedding gown.

My original plan was send the STDs a year ahead then the invites about 6 months ahead with an RSVP within 2-3 months of that. But my stds went out late.. (9 months ahead) and now my TA says we should book asap or the prices might go up, which I notice they have been creeping up slowly so I'm getting my invites done as soon as possible and they will go out 7 months ahead with rsvps due 3 months before the wedding. I'm going to get my TA to get the quotes when the invites go out and people will probably only have about a month to put deposits in if they want in on the deal so I will be finding out if a lot of people are coming or not within a month after the invites. I set a later RSVP cause I find that 7 months ahead is too early to book and I'm guessing some people will still want to wait it out before they make a final decision.

I'm doing an off-resort wedding in Cuba but we're going to be there for a month prior to the wedding just to organize and make sure everything goes properly. If I was going down for a week I'd definitely just want someone else to do everything like the other ladies said!

Just a note, I'm ordering metallic card stock sheets and making my own pocket folds. I'm also ordering linen sheets to print the invites on and their metallic envelopes. All look great!

I'm about to place an order at papercircle.ca. I already ordered some samples about two weeks ago and they were shipped promptly and looked great. I even received a personalized message from them ^^ I did find cheaper prices from American sites but once you factored in shipping costs, it was way more expensive.

I had picked out the dress (Maggie Sottero RD1044) online and thought it would be perfect. I was a bit nervous about trying it on since I read on these boards that a few b2b had tried it on and it wasn't what they expected. I tried on about 6 dresses including one that was similar to the RD1044 but it looked awful. I didn't want to give up on my dream dress yet so I finally found a place that held the sample. When I finally tried it on it was all I imagined and more. My mother was with me and agreed so I definitely knew it was the one

We're doing ours at 3pm. Our photographer says that would be optimal lighting for pictures and also I want to go from ceremony - > cocktail hour - > reception with no breaks in between since it's all at the same venue.

I'm doing grey and yellow My invites are going to be silver and white with yellow touches. My bridesmaids will be in grey and I hope we can have yellow flowers for the bouquets. The guys will be in black or grey suits and I want to get them yellow ties but I'll have to see what they think about that. Yellow is my favourite colour but I know that it's not for everyone. Decoration for the reception will be mostly neutral (white or grey) with pops of yellow here and there like in the centerpieces.. still have to figure those out! I want to hang lanterns, mostly white with a few yellow.

Same colour theme will match enough that things won't look out of place. I say go for it
