Anyone going through/been through a LD relationship?
jlarruda replied to Diva's topic in Random Thoughts
So, I thought I'd share my story FI & I met March 08 through out best friends (who are now married and we were in their weddings). When we met, he just came back from a year and a half tour in Iraq.. he returned to Ft Bragg, NC and I continues my life in MA.. we became friends and would talked constantly but sometime in May things just weren't going our way. He called me on my birthday in Dec. and we picked back up.. talking constantly. He asked me to accompany him to a Military Ball in May 09 and thats when our relationship really started... it worked out, we saw each other almost every month.. we never went for more than 2 months without seeing each other. He got orders to Ft. Benning, GA for February 2010 and I decided to make the move in March 2010.. so we both had a new start at a new place.. well, now its been a year since I've moved and I can honestly say its been difficult (our relationship though, has been stronger.. he proposed in October 2010 btw). When I moved, I gave my job my notice (I was there for 2 1/2 years and I have a college degree). The economy sucks.. I couldn't find a job with a BA degree until September.. so it took 7 months.. so like I said, it was difficult.. but it definetly made us stronger. Now my only downfall is that I work from home, I work in the Social Services field.. so I've met no one.. all my friends, family are back home in MA (we talk multiple times a day) .. all my wedding planning is out of MA so this is definetly hard for me.. but we go home/someone visits every couple of months.. So.. what I'm saying is that it works.. it'll make you stronger.. and at the end of the day, I wanted to be with my FI more than wanting to be back home.. now I can't wait until his contract is up and we can move home (Dec 2013.. ahhhh!) -

I would double check.. because I've read about brides planning to pay with credit card and they won't accept it. -

Did Mayte send you guys a seperate email with the bank info? She didn't send it to me in my preinvoice.. I saw that you guys said its Bank of America.. I have an account through them so I'm wondering if I even have to do a wire transfer or If I can just send it from my account to theres without a fee.. I do agree the fee is a little ridiculous.. how are you guys planning on paying on the day of your reception? -

Hi ladies.. just wondering what you were planning on doing for music for your reception. We were planning on using our ipod instead of the DJ.. but when I asked Mayte about that, she said we would have to pay $400 to use their sound equipment.. didn't really make sense to me since using the DJ is $600.. past brides what did you do? Our ceremony is at 3PM so I really didn't want to make it into such a long day, if we use the DJ then we would stay until like 11PM and we were planning on ending around 9PM after dances, cake cutting, and some dancing.. and then whoever wants can continue to party with us at the resort. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! -
Seperate TTD dress???

I was all about trashing my dress too, but then as soon as I found my dress, I can't picture trashing it.. so I'm planning on buying a cheaper dress. I'm getting married a month after you, so I'm actually planning on looking for a white dress when prom season is dying down.. I'm sure there will be plenty of sales.. the way I see it, some people change out of their wedding dress for the reception.. I'm going to wear mine the whole day for my wedding. -
Why did you choose the Dominican Republic?
jlarruda replied to astef's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
I kept on going back and forth between Punta Cana and Playa del Carmen in MX... a little too much and it was driving me crazy actually lol. Just keep in mind whats important to you and your Fiance, what you want on your day. We wanted something intimate, not a huge resort.. I kept on going back and forth between the 2 resorts, so we finally decided on Majestic Elegance because of the design/layout and everything it comes with.. and we're getting married at a restaurant on the beach in Punta Cana that does weddings so it will be intimate versus having a wedding at the resort with onlookers if we were to get married on the beach. We're getting married here a couple of days before we go to DR so we'll have a symbolic ceremony, it seems that a lot of people do it this way.. its a lot easier and it will be as simple as possible because our wedding day will be in Dominican. -

I currently live in Alabama with my fiance (hes active military.. we wanted to do 11/11/11 since its Veterans Day but it was already booked) and we're originally from Massachusetts..so all our guests are from MA and I'm doing mainly all our wedding planning in MA (got my dress in December . We just sent out our save the dates yesterday.. when are you guys planning on sending out your invites?

Hi everyone I have a question for previous brides.. did you get your flowers (bouquet, bridesmaids bouquet, etc) through Mayte.. and whats an estimate on what prices were like? I emailed Mayte a couple of days ago so we can get our pre-invoice.. I left out some things so we can figure it out when it gets closer. Thanks -
I just read the review.. and it seems as if that person has more issues going on than with just the resort and is in a ranting mood. First off, she was a guest for the wedding, the bride wasn't the one that posted it and she mentioned the littlest of things. I'm staying at the Majestic but getting married off the resort as I read that they do many weddings a day and we wanted something more intimate. I wouldn't worry about it.. since booking our trip, I've learning that someone that one of our guests knows is getting married at the resort a week before us, another guest's cousin is going there in March, one of my bridesmaids friends went there last year, my parents friends are currently vacationing there (they were at the Colonial last yr) and my TA was just there in November.. none of them complained and they all loved it.

When was the last time you heard from Mayte? we haven't done our pre invoice yet but Mayte said my day is closed.. has Mayte closed your day? if she has I don't think you have anything to worry about.. just talk to her. I know when I didn't hear from her for a while I sent her a message on the Jellyfish facebook page and she got back to me. -

Not that much expensive, you get more actually. For Menu II, its $45 and they pick one main course, for the buffet Mayte said it would be $49.50 I believe, and it is 2 entrees and 3 main courses.. rather than each guest picking one main course. Mel, we're staying at the Majestic Elegance, at the Elegance Club.. we're getting married at Jellyfish on 11/12/11... we originally wanted to get married on 11/11/11 because its Veterans Day, my FI is active military so it would have meaning, but Majestic was booked.. and Jellyfish already was booked and had 11/12 open.. we probably would be able to get the free wedding Majestic offers, but they're booked the weekend we want, and then I heard Majestic does like 4 weddings a day. I've heard a lot of good reviews for ME, our TA actually was just there in Nov. and I just found out one of our friend's cousin is going on vacation there in March.. if you have any questions, just send me a PM.. especially since our weddings are so close together. -
ffHey jszy, My FI is actually inbetween the whole not caring/caring.. I'll ask him things but he flip flops on what he says sometimes, so thats when I know it doesn't really matter ultimately. As for colors? I'd ask him what he'd think about certain colors, and he actually refused any blue color since the ocean is. I make sure he gets involved in the big decisions, but overall the little things he doesn't care much about--- and when you think about it, I guess its a good thing.. they want what the day is about, to get married.. the little things shouldn't matter so much. To get my FI to be involved a bit more, on our wedding website, we did "our story" together, and tonight I wrote about "bride" and I told him, he has to write his section under "groom". I guess you have to choose what to really include them in. I'll talk about what I'm researching/updating.. but do I have his full attention? I doubt it I wouldn't stress over it, pick your battles and what you think he should really be included in.. and if it continues to really bother you, let him know. Hope everything goes well.. and be happy, you're planning a destination wedding

We're getting married at the Jellyfish in November, we're having our ceremony & reception there.. and we're staying at the Majestic Elegance. Mayte is really good at replying to emails, shes just been catching up over the holidays since they were so busy. As for buffet.. I recently asked her that question, she said to add 10% to the menu price for buffet, so I just asked her how many people that would feed and I'm waiting for her reply. -
we're planning our save the dates and I know I'm looking at different vendors for the better deal.. sounds like a great idea
