  1. I tried this one on in two different stores. Eventually decided it's not the one. But beautiful dress for sure! I would've loved it if the ruffles were more like soft tiers.
  2. JR14 - I ended up trying on your Allure dress last week. It was nice, but I like it better on you than on me
  3. I'm glad you guys liked the me vs. dress posts. I have more if anyone wants to see. I'm not even done looking unfortunately
  4. Just in case you don't get an answer from the poster - it's Ronald Joyce, Lucy. I fell in love with it when I first saw an ad, but I didn't track it down to try on because I don't feel that the satin skirt would work well on the beach. It's also from a very pricey designer.
  5. Go for it! That's what's awesome about a DW - you can be as un-traditional as you want (unless of course your mother fights you every step of the non-traditional way like mine is)
  6. We're thinking of the Calabash as well, and whether or not we rent it out will depend on the number of people (it's impossible to estimate right now). Good to know that there isn't a bar conveniently close to that one. Thanks for the info This makes sense, considering it's an all-inclusive resort! I still can't get over the fact that they charge extra for something that's already included.
  7. Wow, the dress is beautiful! I don't really like the slip-like top, but the flower and the diagonal ruffles are so pretty. Very unique, I haven't seen anything else like it.
  8. Are you saying that you essentially had an open bar at the reception without paying for it? Which restaurant was your reception at? Was there a regular bar close by?
  9. I'm pretty small on top - would a bandeau work on me? I always feel that they make small-chested girls look even smaller. But I also don't want tan lines by the time wedding day rolls around. I don't tan very easily, so the chances of tan lines are actually quite slim (I'm more likely to look like a lobster all over, unfortunately). Who's strategically planning to wear a bandeau for the first little bit?
  10. The thing is, many of our guests may not book through our travel agent - I'm pretty sure we'll have people booking all over the place, and some will wait for last minute. If we have 40 guests and only a third booked through the TA, then we don't really have any leverage with the TA. I guess I'll just have to do the best I can...
  11. You should really email both the Suites and Beach, and get all the relevant documents emailed to you, and while you're at it find out which dates are still available around the time you want. I'll email you what I have.
  12. This is fantastic! I'm not dealing with a TA (maybe soon), but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask Nicole to reduce some costs or include things for free. In particular, I really don't agree with paying for the open bar (per person per hour, no less!). I would also like them to waive the $30 fee for people coming over from the Beach (we have decided that we would pay this for our guests, but I would really prefer is they just wouldn't charge it to begin with). I'd love to hear other brides experiences with getting costs reduced or eliminated (and would really appreciate a PM if you'd rather not post it publicly).
  13. Please forgive me, but I so loooove this thread, that I'm including a few more. I'm sure someone one day will seach for the style name and find it useful Maggie Sottero - Primavera (so NOT a destination dress, despite my mom's best efforts to convince me) MS Isadora Marie MS Jamilia (sooooo much prettier in the picture) MS Anniston Ok, I'm done for now. But I've got more if anyone wants them
  14. This is such a fun thread!!!!! I don't have my dress for sure yet (but I'm heavily leaning towards the Desdemona, just one more trips to try on, and then I make my decision). I wanted to include a few that I tried on, since I did make the comparison pictures (my mom asked me for them, she couldn't keep them straight like I could... lol) For searching purposes, I will type out the style names. Watters/ WTOO - Desdemona San Patrick - Eresma (neither picture does this dress justice. amazing work on the bodice) Mori lee 1606 (looks same as in the picture!) MS Jill Pronovias - Galante (no one is that freakishly tall!) Pronovias dresses fit AMAZINGLY btw
  15. I was a BM in my cousin's wedding at the Bavaro Princess (DR). We cut ours and saved them, without even asking. Next day we just went to the front desk with the cut one and asked for a new one, explaining that we were in a wedding. It was not a problem. Maybe if you don't ask, then you can plead ignorance? Unless they have a very clearly written policy in the contract you signed or something... The chunky bracelet idea sounds great, I wouldn't have thought of that.
  16. I tried on the Maggie Sottero Isadora Marie, which is just the longer version of the Isadora Ann (they didn't have the Ann in store). I really liked it, but my mom won't even hear of it! She says the short one looks like a prom dress. (I bet if I had wanted to wear it to a prom, she would've said it looks like a wedding dress!) I personally love the idea of a shorter dress - just think - you don't have to worry about getting sand all over it, you can go to the washroom solo, and it would be soooo much more comfortable. Unfortunately everyone I took dress shopping thinks that the fact that it's a destination shouldn't affect the dress you wear, and it should be big and poofy and bride-like. Sorry for the rant, but the point is I really do love the Isadora Ann, it's gorgeous and IMO perfect for a DW.
  17. Awesome, thanks. Sorry if this should be obvious, but does the sunset time refer to when the sun just begins to go down (ie, we should be taking our "sunset" pics a few minutes and up to half an hour after this time), or is this when it's already pretty dark? thanks

And now that I know what it is, I see I already had it on my list of gowns to try on lol. It looks fantastic on you, congrats!
  19. VS just came to Canada recently, so I don't have any experience with their swimsuits. Are they generally good quality, flattering, etc? What's the general consensus? I'm lucky because I'll be able to stock on up clearance swimsuits at the end of summer, since I'm having a fall wedding
  20. I tried this one on too! It looked amazing, gave me curves I didn't know I had. I didn't decide on it though, still looking. I LOVE these last two dresses - designer and style names, please!
  21. Perfect, stunning!!! This brightened my day. May I ask what your wedding dress is? I'm considering a style like that as well.
  22. Did you know there are other options too? Lazy river island and gazebo (this is for the Suites). Lazy river island is after 5 pm, up to 70 people. Gazebo is after 6 pm, up to 20 ppl. Lobby terrace up to 30 ppl. I really want the lobby terrace, I'm hoping we'll have less than 30 If not, I will make them squeeze in the extras!
