  1. Believe it or not, it's possible to find a great compromise! When I first started trying on dresses, I felt the same. But trust me, there are lots out there that are structured and "fancy" without being too heavy. Some dresses that look really big aren't heavy at all, so don't let size be the only consideration. I would suggest to stay away from most Maggie Sotteros, they tend to be heavy. I found that lots of WTOO dresses are very light (I ended up choosing the Dulconee), and some Enzoani (ie Casablanca) and Mikaella as well.
  2. I don't know if this will be helpful at all, but I thought I'd post my pics of the "real" Ella dress. It's just as un-flattering, so your problem is not that it's a knock-off, it's just the way the dress is. I LOVED this dress in the stock pic and was so excited to try it on. Granted, the sample was big enough to fit two of me in there, but it was still one of the most un-flattering dresses I've tried on. I agree you should do something about the neckline, and hopefully the seamstress can help you with the rest. I think it's fitting you quite nicely though, and should improve a lot with alterations. It has the potential to be an amazing dress for you. Sorry for the crappy pics - this store didn't allow pictures, so we had to get creative.
  3. Awww this looks gorgeous on you! I tried it on as well, but didn't go for it in the end. To the girl who asked - it's a Mori Lee.
  4. Is this the Enzoani blue Casablanca? I tried it on, it's such a stunning dress! But the way the corset/boning stopped right above the stomach really didn't look flattering on me. I think it's also why it's making you look like you have big hips It looks amazing on you, congrats!
  5. Hi girls! I'm just wondering what everyone is doing for dinner & reception. From the info I have, private restaurant rental is from about 6:30 -10. The disco can only be rented out privately until 10:30, so it doesn't make sense to do private dinner and then private disco. But I feel like 10 pm is pretty early to call it a night, and I would like a PRIVATE reception to go a bit later into the night, like midnight at least. I'm not sure if it makes sense to have a DJ and dancing if we have to clear out by 10 pm. Am I missing something? How is everyone else planning the reception? Is there any way to have the reception last until midnight?
  6. You look stunning. I tried that dress on as well - Pronovias and San Patrick dresses are so flattering, and that one is perfect for a DW. Congrats on finding your dress! I tried one that dress two different times, and in the end I ended up with a slightly similar style, too (the WTOO Dulconee - it's slightly less mermaid, and has the ruffly skirt as well)
  7. For girls in Canada - Le Chateau has some amazing little white dresses. They would be perfect for a destination dress. Check in store, and I think some are on the website too.

  9. Thanks for sending the link! I saw your album on her website, but it helped to see all the other pics. I have to say, she's not my absolute favourite photographer (I don't particularly like the group photos, they look like they could've been taken by any random guest), but no one can beat her prices. I'm glad to hear she's great to work with. Digipix is supposed to get back to me with some more photo albums, and hopefully I can make a decision soon.
  10. This is so pretty, I love it on you! This style was on my list to try as well, but I never did track it down. So many dresses, so little time (and so few weddings in a lifetime! lol)
  11. I'm very close to booking with Marcia now. Her quote is excellent, two photographers and no time limit. Her portfolio isn't my favourite (though I'm not sure whose is. lol), but I do like her work. I've emailed DigiPix as well, but they haven't gotten back to me.
  12. Anyone??? I'm going to book Marcia Roberts soon if I can't find any more work from Digipix. I'd like to see a few entire weddings, not just snippets of their best pictures.
  13. I love it on you! Good choice, I think it's more flattering on your than the Isadora Ann was. Congrats

Our group will be split between the Suites and Beach at about the same time - I might just come and check out your wedding 2 days before mine We'd love to do this as well. We're thinking of booking 2 weeks at the Suites, and hoping to get upgraded to the Grand after the wedding. If not, we will try to pay the difference to get transferred. Our actual honeymoon will be shorter though - we plan to arrive a few days before everyone else (to get last minute preparations done and learn our way around the resort, and also to celebrate our 10th anniversary there on the 11th), and stay just a few days after. Those of you who are switching to another resort for your honeymoon - how are you dealing with the transfer? Are you flying back? AFAIK, it's hard to do two one-way trips to and from different resorts. I'd love to hear how everyone is doing this part. November rates didn't start to come out until the end of February, but we still sent out our STD's in January. No one in our group wants to book this early anyway - prices are so high right now, I'm sure they will go down over the summer. As long as we're booked about 4 months before, I'm not worried. I've been watching prices since summer, so I roughly know what's reasonable closer to the date. Congrats! I was also stalking this forum a few months before we actually got engaged (9 years together . When we got engaged, I knew exactly what I wanted, and in 2 weeks I had the date confirmed, and within one month we had STD's sent out. Good luck getting your date, and make sure to put it into your signature when you have it
  15. I don't really see a reason to wear spanx with your dress. It's structured enough to shape you nicely on its own. If it was a thin chiffon or silk or something, then you might need it, but I really don't think you do with your dress (and it would be too hot underneath that dress for sure!)
  16. Quote: Originally Posted by JBean I tried this one on too and it was in my top 2. I love it - so gorgeous!! I just stalked you for a bit and found your dress. It's funny, because that dress was on my list to try for the longest time, and I actually tried it on the same time that I tried my final dress. It was very pretty, but something about the way the ruffles fell on one side seemed odd to me. That's so funny though, we must have the same taste in dresses And dates - since our weddings are only 6 days apart
  17. I've been trying to decide whether or not I want a veil as well. I think I will get one, and also plan to put a flower in my hair. I will wear the veil for the ceremony - mine is also in Jamaica, but not on the beach, it will be on a terrace overlooking the resort. So I think it will be fine for the ceremony at least. From there, I'll see how it goes. I will probably keep it on for some pictures, and then take it off halfway through the beach pictures. I'll still have the flower. Then I'll see how I feel at the reception. I was really worried about it at first, because of the beach and because I thought it might be too much for me, but when I tried one on with my dress I did like it. So I will have one as an option, just so I don't regret not having one. Hope this helps.
  18. Congrats on picking the resort and the date. It's such a great feeling I know someone getting married there in October, and I'll just be heading home from my honeymoon when you get married. Time will fly!
  19. I'm sooooo excited to finally post THE dress (after all the ones I've posted in various threads of my trials). I ordered this morning, it's all done! She should arrive in July, can't wait! She's Watters WTOO Dulconee.
  20. The verdict is in! My mom and cousin both preferred the Dulconee, so that's the winner. It's all done and ordered, she should arrive in July. So excited! Thanks so much for the opinions and the discussions - off the post it in the "your dress" thread now
  21. I'm going back to the store today with my mom and cousin (they haven't seen the second one yet). Decision time! I'll let you guys know how it all turns out.
  22. Thanks for the opinions! I still haven't totally made up my mind. Everyone seems to love #2, but I'm just wondering how it will stand up to time. I feel like the first one is also very pretty, and will age better. I don't care too much if it starts to look out-dated, but I don't want it to look really bad in a few decades. Another issue I have with the second one is that it's a lot more figure-hugging, and it makes me feel a lot more self-conscious about my little stomach. In the first one, I can totally relax Thoughts?
