I am using destinationweddings.com for my wedding planning and travel and my experience so far has been excellent! I am getting married June 10, 2011 at The Royal in Cancun. My Specialist is Susan Ryan and she has definitely been a BIG help with my planning so far. I started off looking for resorts on my own and reading reviews from TripAdvisor, so once I found a few resort's I liked, I started with destinationweddings, told Susan about some of the resorts I was interested in and also asked for more options. At first she did try to sale me into the Karisma Resorts, but once I told her exactly what features I wanted in the resort and what our budget was, everything has been smooth ever since. She is always extremely timely in getting back with me, and she always lets me know when she will be away weeks in advance just in case anything comes up. One reason why I went with destinationweddings.com was because most of the time the travel agents have visited the resorts before and since we had no intention on going to see the resort, we wanted someone who would be familiar with it. Also, their travel agents (are supposed to anyway) have years of experience with travel. My specialist has 25 years of travel experience and has done destination weddings since the beginning. I also know three other people who have used destinationweddings.com, 2 for weddings, and 1 for a honeymoon, and they've all had fine experiences. Another reason is because I didn't want to take the risk of using expedia or travelocity because people have SUCH bad experiences with them. My cousin who was a guest at a wedding in Jamaica used travelocity to book her travel instead of going with the couple's destinationwedding.com specialist, and had soooo many problems - the room description was not correct, they told her she'd have to pay extra once she got to the resort for the room she wanted, the transfers were not done correctly, and the room that she had originally reserved was "overbooked" so she wouldn't have been able to get it anyway. I rather be on the safe side and use destinationweddings.com in case any of my guests run into problems with their flights, or the resort, they will have someone to contact who is United States based to help them. Also, destinationweddings.com has a "price match guarantee" so they are supposed to be able to get you a matching or better price from their vendors if you find a cheaper quote. I personally looked up quotes on travelocity for the Royal Cancun when my Specialist got my first quote, and when I told her I found it cheaper she had already submitted a price match for it because she'd done her own research. I got non-stop flights for about a 40% discount and my resort rates were about $250 less per person. I think that's a great deal! So while I still looked up prices to make sure we were getting a good deal, the time I spent was still worth it because I did get a much better rate than the first quote. Also, if you're skeptical about using one of their Specialist, ask them to allow you to contact their previous clients, I did it and the couple was very happy with the help of our Specialist.
