  1. Hey Alberta Ladies! Here you go! My original email is below - which is why it says "Manitoba" marriage certificate. I'm sure you just bring your Alberta one. [email protected] 9:08 AM (9 hours ago) to me Thank you for your inquiry. To assume the last name of your spouse, you will need to order a government-issued marriage certificate. Information on Vital Statistic offices in other provinces in Canada is available on our website at: www.servicealberta.ca/765.cfm By assuming your spouse’s last name, you are not officially changing your maiden last name. Your birth registration will still show your maiden surname. If you have an Alberta driver's licence or identification card you can add your husband's surname with or without a hyphen. You can apply for a change of name by appearing in person at a registry office. To process the change, you will need to surrender your current driver's licence and provide an additional piece of acceptable identification as well as the Manitoba marriage certificate. The registry agent will issue you with a temporary driver's licence which cannot be used as identification. The new driver's licence with your updated information should come to you in the mail in about 5 to 10 business days. There is a fee for having your driver's licence information updated. Service Providers Service Alberta, Registries no longer provides direct customer service for motor vehicle services. The provincial government privatized this process and a network of private Registry Agents was established as authorized service providers. Registry Agents are authorized to charge a service fee. The list of Registry Agents is available on our website at: www.servicealberta.ca/617.cfm If you have any further questions please contact: Ministry of Service Alberta Vital Statistics Box 2023 Edmonton AB T5J 4W7 Phone: 780-427-7013 For toll-free access within Alberta first dial 310-0000 Email: [email protected] Visit our website at www.servicealberta.ca for comprehensive registries and consumer information and services ----- Original Message ----- From: Jaimee D <> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thu, 2 Feb 2012 11:28:38 -0700 Subject: Marriage Name Change Question [interactionID:6e9b89af-08f6-47f1-9f44-4fbe3e290fdb] Hello, Thank you for your time! I just had a quick question about marriage name change. We were married (legally) in Manitoba on January 12, 2011. However it was a secret, as our "wedding" was January 12, 2012 in Mexico. In October 2011 we moved to Alberta, so we are now residents here. I am interested in assuming my husbands name, but also keeping mine. I am wondering if this is an option. I don't want to hyphenate it just add his name on to the end. Jaimee Middlename Maiden Husbandname Is that an option, or do I have to hyphenate it? The fact that we were married in Manitoba, does that affect this at all?
  2. Actually there is a Vital Statistics in Alberta. I emailed them this morning Now we have been residents of Alberta since October, but we were legally married in Manitoba. I wonder if that affects things. I'll see what they say! Thanks Ashley!
  3. I didn't put locations on my invitations, just the resort. The other info was on the website - and Like JoAnne said, the times changed a bit, and we just told our guests. Here's our invite main page. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/67394/my-first-step-into-the-world-of-craftiness-boarding-pass-invitations - here's my invite thread
  4. I know! My bouquet is sitting on my desk right now It was great!
  5. Hey Ladies, I know a couple of you are from Alberta - and I'm wondering if you are changing your name - what what steps you have to start with to do it? In general - are any of you changing your name? Initially I wasn't, and hubby was cool. Now that we're "officially" married, I get the feeling he really wants me to. I like his last name, and it wasn't ever out of the question, moreso for convenience that I wouldn't change it, and I really like my name. It reflects my heritage, and I just like it. For professional purposes, I would like to stay Jaimee "Smith", but legally be Jaimee "Jones". Has anyone ever thought of making their maiden name a middle name? So my new name would be Jaimee Anne Smith Jones. For all intents and purposes I would be Jaimee Jones legally, but then Smith is still a part of my name. (PS. I made up middle and last names) What are your thoughts January ladies? What are you doing?
  6. Thanks! That was the upside, the cake was freaking delicious - we demolished it! We had 33 people and we ate at least 2/3 of the cake, if not more. They brought it to our room the next day and we may have eaten some more
  7. My friends have all mentioned this to. I think we need to plan another trip so we have something to look forward too!
  8. Gorgeous muzikgrrl and adevnturelovers! Both of your days looked great!!
  9. I had initially planned on going with a hair flower- then after talking with my crafty bridesmaid - we decided to go with a hair vine. My hair vine In action! My bridesmaid also made a hairflower for herself (it was initially her practice for mine, but she loved it and wore it). I think she's crying during the ceremony in this picture, but its the best shot of her flower I could find. She also made a dramatic hair flower for her own wedding, that she wore for the reception.
  10. I went for a pop of colour to. I'm not really a traditional pearls and diamonds kind of girl. I wanted colourful jewellery. All of our jewellery was made by my bridesmaid Michelle. She's so talented! She made matching earrings and necklaces for the bridesmaids, my earrings and necklace and my gorgeous hair vine. We were looking on etsy together, and she was like "I could do this!" then she did! My earrings hair vine In action! I may have been crying a bit prior to the below photo, I'm streaky!
  11. The only part of my wedding that didn't turn out....the cake. I didn't cry, which I was pretty proud of! I had heard and seen some poor examples of cakes from the resort, so I thought I would keep it simple. I bought butterflies off of etsy from Sugar Robot to decorate my cake. I had visions of beautiful butterflies flying. Something like this Unfortunately, the language barrier happened, and when I said "make sure you don't put the butterflies in the fridge", it didn't quite happen. They got refrigerated, and the condensation made them wilt like soggy bits of paper. The chef guy was pretty upset. He didn't speak english, but he told my friends that spoke spanish it was beautiful beforehand, and the butterflies were flying. We didn't let us get it down (though I risked bursting into tears for a moment). Top layer was strawberry, bottom coconut both delicious
  12. That sucks so much MJKH! I know exactly what flower you bought, I almost bought it too! Then my bridesmaid said she could make it for me, then we decided to make a hair vine. She made a pretty hair flower for herself though. I took my real touch bouquets and bouts and corsages with me. It depends how you pack them. I put the bouts and corsages in a cereal box and they turned out fine. A few of my bouquets got a little smushed, but they popped back with a little arranging.
  13. Thanks!! It's from Sposa - Just For you. Mine isn't on their website anymore (since it was 2011) - this is the 2012 collection though. http://www.thesposagroup.com/en/just-for-you.html I'll probably be putting it up for sale shortly if anyone is interested.
  14. Brides hair and make up is included in the Strawberry Passion package. I think the make up and updo is just the price in the spa list. My bridesmaids did their own hair so I'm not sure about the price of that. My sister did the make up, It was about $55 I think.
  15. Congrats Mrs. Menuk and Liz! You guys look gorgeous!!
  16. I used the resort and same as Mrs. Meukon they did a good job, but a little heavier than I normally wear make up. In hindsight, I kind of wish I had lightened it a bit more to look more like me, but it was pretty.
  17. The dress shop I bought my dress had their own way of packaging the dress for our trip. When I picked up my dress, they told me to bring a sheet and my carryon. They disappeared into the back room with the sheet and my dress, and came back with this little tiny package all folded up. When we got to the resort, I unfolded my dress and it wasn't even wrinkled! I have no idea what they did, but it was nice. Then we could put my dress, and our shoes and FH outfit all in our rolly carry on bag and no worry about carrying them around.
  18. We were initially planning something informal - then we moved 1500 miles away, and don't really have many friends or family here, and definitely don't want to try and plan another reception long distance. I don't think most people expect it. I've only been asked by a few, but moving seems to be a good excuse!
  19. Have you checked Kijiji or Craigslist? That is where I found mine!
  20. Hey! Welcome to the forum! I just got married at the Palace on Jan 12th, it was amazing. My planning thread is here. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/77705/avens-mayan-rivieria-planning-thread-12-01-12/30 You have some catching up to do, but most of your questions are probably answered here http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/21746/barcelo-maya-palace-brides-post-here-d (I would pick somewhere in the middle for the most recent information, or search the thread for questions!). http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/67560/2012-barcelo-maya-palace-brides/70#post_1722877
