  1. Also I didn't answer your question! I had the price on the website and STD's and invitations, so people knew at the start and could start saving early.
  2. Is the cost of a flight on top of this? If that another 500 or 600 dollars I could see people complaining - otherwise its about on par with a nice resort. Our package is $1600 plus tax including the flight for Barcelo Maya Palace in the Mayan Riviera from Winnipeg, Canada. I think if you give them a year to save, it's doable. The fact that it is a really nice place makes it worth the extra I think! Have you tried getting quotes for other places to show him that isn't a crazy amount? Good Luck!
  3. I just checked today - there is the same deal for Picaboo $35 for a $100 gift certificate. Here You may need to navigate to the Saskatoon homepage or Halifax homepage for the deal.
  4. I'm glad it was helpful! I'm not a huge fan of the snakeskin print, but I think I'll get a fun sticker or something to personalize it. At least it's not a bright obnoxious colour!
  5. I was there recently and they had the foil monogram ones for $0.75 and animal print ones for $0.45. Also the animal print playing cards were $0.45 too!
  6. Sorry, in the big Barcelo Maya Palace thread, not earlier in this thread. Wish I could edit my post! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/21746/barcelo-maya-palace-brides-post-here-d
  7. I think if they're staying for at least two nights there is no charge for the outside photographer, otherwise it is $300. Surprise_its_taken posted a little further up in the thread (she's there right now) with what they made her do for the photographer.
  8. Hi Everyone, I've neveractually bought a Groupon before, but I get the emails and today it is for $35, you get $115 worth of custom-designed photo books from Photobook Canada. I know I was thinking of making a photobook of some sort for my guest book, this seems like a good deal. Has anyone used Groupon or Photobook before? To buy it go here or whatever your local groupon page is. The nice thing is you have until February 2012 to use the coupon (?). Any thoughts or experiences?
  9. Love to hear your review of it once your done!
  10. I'm in Canada too, Winnipeg Ah yes, I knew WestJet Vacations was different - so though it seemed cheaper, we didn't go with them. I knew my guests would probably not be quite as much on the ball, so I opted for Air Canada Vacations . We had to book 10 (our immediate families) then we had the price booked. Ditto with Air Canada and flying people not on the packages, that makes it kind of nice. The flight from Winnipeg with Air Canada was also great because it leaves Saturday mornings (from Winnipeg, my MoH is from Calgary and I think her flight is Sunday morning). So it works perfect for people taking a week off of work.
  11. Sorry, I just saw one other thing. For your RSVP, do you mean for them to respond online OR by sending back this portion? Currently you have RSVP online by sending back this portion. I'm looking hard for you, because I just found a mistake on a date in invitations which I already printed, I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to fix that!
  12. Do you think that is enough time for the RSVP? That will be less than a month to make vacation etc arrangements and put down the $200. I don't think my friends and family would be on the ball for that so quick! Otherwise they're very nice! Good job.
  13. Mine surprised me, I went to work one day while he was off, and I came home and he had filled in all his blank spots on the list! There was like 20 of them. STD look great!
  14. I think it's the best bet to look at the overall ratings. Also after reading some of the negative reviews to you might realize alot of them aren't really all that negative. Common ones i saw for my resort were "The floor was slippery after it rained" "There were to many mosquotoes" "There was a lizard on our balcony"
  15. I like the ruffley one the best It's up to what you think is the nicest though!
  16. Thanks! I used Photoshop CS4. Fonts - the fancy Jaimee and Ryan, and the W in the quote is Vivaldi The smaller writing is Constantia. The "&" is French Script. I had no rule for choosing fonts, and google wasn't very helpful. I spent ALOT of time changing fonts until I found ones I liked. It was tricky! For printers - I don't have a colour printer at home, though I would imagine it would work fine. I had initially planned on taking them to Office Depot to get them printed. However when I got a sample. I think their printer was low on yellow ink, as it printed terribly and the guy was not helpful at all. I was really frustrated so I took it to work and did a practice print there. It worked great! I went to go ask the secretary if she knew why it would be so different, and she offered to print them for me (free!). She also had the heavier cardstock paper. So these were just printed on a regular office type printer. In hindsight, I should have adjusted the settings for the highest quality - but I think they still turned out pretty darn good.
  17. That is terrible! I would hate that. I was very clear from the beginning that we were having a small wedding. My mom would like to invite a ton of people I know, but she did really good. We kept it to immediate family (Out to Grandparents Aunts and Uncles) and then close friends. I also asked my parents and his parents if they had anyone special they wanted to invite. They each had one or two friends they requested which I was fine with. Maybe you can make some sort of comprimise like that? I have had a few people ask me about their families/friends coming along. I said that they were welcome to use the group discount at the resort, but to let them know upfront that I may not have room for them at the reception as space is limited (which it genuinely will be). I understand this some people's only vacation for the year, or even the next few years - but at the same time - this is YOUR wedding. If you aren't comfortable with it, you shouldn't do it.
  18. To all the people who were worried about the extra costs of getting Married in Mexico - don't forget that getting Married at home has costs too! We decided we didn't want two days, so we're getting "paperworked" one year before our wedding in Mexico, this Wednesday the 12th of Jan. This will vary depending on your province - the costs in Manitoba the costs are: Marriage License - $100 Marriage Commissioner - $125 - $350 is what I was quoted, just for a legality ceremony. Marriage Certificate - $25 or $60 (for a rush).
  19. I like the two middle greens the best, but I think they all work well (in the picture of 4 the first and the third one). I like that they're all different. Thanks everyone! It was my first atempt to be crafty and to really put photoshop to use. You should have seen me in the scrapbooking store though, I sent the lady a thank you card because she was SO helpful. She knew I would probably never use this stuff again, so she actually lent me the paper cutter and the punches, which saved me a bunch of money. She also offered to spend an afternoon cutting out the invites (and got about 20 done) for free. If any Winnipeg Brides are attempting something like this, or like scrapbooking go see Marilyn at Scrapbookers Anonymous on Portage Ave. She was a lifesaver and went above and beyond.
  20. First off - I need to thank everyone in this forum who posted their instructions and how to's, it encouraged me that I could do it, and I think I did! I sent out Vistaprint Postcard STD's (the star fish ones that are posted around here so often) but I knew I wanted a boarding pass style invite. I thought I was really creative and unique until I stumbled upon this forum and found a wealth of information! I had gotten a couple templates, but in the end I decided I would do it myself. I googled images searched the heck out of boarding pass invites until I found exactly what I was looking for for inspiration, A compass rose. I came across a random picture and I loved the way the compass rose was part of the background, so i redrew it in Photoshop then added my own flourishes. I also really liked the quote tha was on that original boarding pass I found, so I kept it. "We love because it is the only true adventure" My FH works for an airline and has always loved compass roses, I'm a avid outdoorwoman with a forestry type degree so they've always been a favourite of mine too. Since i specialize in botany (and butterflies in my Masters degree) I knew I needed to incorporate that somehow too. I think the end result is very much us and came out really nice! So I found a photo of an orchid and played with in photoshop to get the old worldy drawn on feel that the compass has. I then created the second page with travel information. I'd love some feedback on the outsides. I really didn't know what to do - the FH said just leave them, but that was to plain. I only did these 4 (one of each jacket colour, various shades of green, the scrapbooking store didn't have enough of any one colour). In the stamp set I bought that included the compass on the front, I thought it would be fun to stamp the back of the boarding passes. I'm not sure if I'll do that for all of them though. The colours from my camera might be a little off, the lighting is bad in here. I have larger photos if anyone is interested, I didn't want to overwhelm the page though. Cheers!
