Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?
Espejo2be replied to kerrij's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Time is going faster and faster, we'll be on the beach in no time!! I actually lived in St.John's for about 5 years before moving to Fort Mcmurray and then to Edmonton. We will be getting there on August 4th and leaving on the 11th (we were going to stay for 2 weeks but we're actually planning on having another reception and dance in Grand Falls when we get home so we cut it down to 1 week). Too bad we won't be there the same time!! -

Hey Kerlitz, I finally got a quote from Jan's Flowers and will be making that deposit today but have already made a deposit for Merrick Cousley. I thought it would be simple to show up at the bank with the account numbers he gave me and just wire the money but there's a pile of other information (inclding his personal address) and well as paperwork to make it go through at the bank so I ended up using PayPal and saving money compared to the bank fees! -

Girls, Thanks so much for the extra info about the menus and the pictures are soo helpful!! I finally have my passport invitations made and am getting them sent out this week, i'm getting excited now because all the big things are complete, i just need to make decisions on the little things now and your extra info helps relieve all the stress from that! Anyone know where to get a cheap second wedding dress for TTD? I don't want to trash my actual dress because we are having another reception when we return home. -

lmarie, Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm a fellow newfie currently living in Edmonton and am getting married at the GBP on August 8th, 2011. I have Merrick Cousley booked as my photographer, he is super quick in getting back to you through email. His prices are great and his work looks awesome - I even looked him up on facebook and he has his profile open so that you can see some of his work. I already have my deposit put down with him and he was willing do make a custom package just for us based on what we wanted. Good Luck!! -

Hey tris, One Love - Bob Marley Under the Sea - Little Mermaid I’m Yours - Jason Mraz Lucky - Jason Mraz ft Colbie Caillat Lyrics Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett I Can’t Help Falling in Love with you - Elvis Presley Red Red Wine - UB40 Hawaiian Wedding Song – Elvis Presley are just a few of the songs I picked out for the steel drum band to play II'm trying to decide if i should get them to play throughout the ceremony or just after the ceremony now... I'm hesitant on getting them to play throughout the ceremony as I don't think it'll be as "intimate" as music with words. -

Tris, I asked Beverly before what kind of songs the steel drum band played and she said they will just play whatever they know unless you put in your selection request. I'm on the same page as you with the traditional bridal song... So i went on youtube and searched out some steel drum band songs to get an idea what ones sound the best for what I want and submitted them to Beverly for the steel drum bands approval! -
Congrats and Welcome!

Soontobemrsdow, Thanks for the advice. I will call my TA back tomorrow with the info I have come up with on my own and see if she can do anything for me at all but i feel helpless otherwise. I feel bad telling everyone to book their own flights but right now it's about $300 or more cheaper for everybody! -

I've actually hired Merrick Cousley - He's from Jamaica and his photography looks amazing! You can check out his website. his prices are reasonable, i think so anyways... he'll do the whole day from beginning to end for $950.00 (600-900 pictures), if you want TTD session it's an extra $300 and an extra photographer it's an extra $400. -

Can I ask , are you going with Air Canada Vacations or are you just flying Air Canada? That seems like a really good deal, i wish my TA would do something like this!! But none of the travel angecies I've contacted offered any incentives... 45 people is ALOT of business to not put effort into in my opinion! -

Girls thanks for the heads up, maybe I can check in with Transat too. I've tried with Air Canada Vacations, West Jet Vacations, AMA Travel, UniGlobe Travel and Flight Center and they are all giving me prices of $1800 - $1900 per person for 7 nights. No discounts, no incentives or anything and they all took at least 2 months to get back to me with prices... i'm so frustrated with it all because our guests want to book now. Our wedding is August 8th, 2011 and most of the travel agents said right now the going rate is about $1500 per person but because we are travelling in low season that we would definately get a big discount... I waited and waited and all i got were quotes that were way more than the "going rate" that she quoted us in the first place! I contacted the group specialist at the hotel today and she sent me a quote an hour later for Single, Double and Child Occupancy at the hotel. $89 per person for double occupancy, $86 per person for triple occupancy, $155 for single occupancy and $44 for child per night. $100 deposit has to be made per person and the rest can be paid up to 45 days before departure. and for every 15 people booked 1 person stays for free! I think i'm going to go this way... most of our guests want to use air plan points for flights and can't do it with the package price and because flights are going on sale all the time, they can use air miles or book the sale price whenever they see one. There are so many departure points for my group that the west jet group specialist agreed that this would be best but she did give me a quote for 2 of my main departures for $822 taxes in for return flight. Making the separet price about $1445 compared to my quoted price from the travel agent of $1900?! -

Hey Ladies, I've been waiting for 3 months now to get the prices of the packages back from the TA and finally have them... I'm not impressed as she told us the going rate was $500 less than the actual price she quoted us to pay. We have a group of about 45 people going but don't feel like i'm getting much of a deal. Can I ask what travel agency most of you ladies went with? and approx price you were quoted? I'm living in Western Canada right now and half of our group is leaving from there and the other half from eastern Canada. -

Hey girl, I had a few questions to ask the assistant wedding planner to help me make a few decisions on things, just figured i'd post it in case some of you had the same questions, i know how hard it is to get ahold of Beverly... When do I have to make a decision on what package I would like to have? At least 3 months prior to wedding date How much of a deposit do you need and when?25% of wedding package Are the Garden Grill and the Italian resturants the only two that can have a semi private reception? Yes Do you have any pictures of the locations that you can have a semi private reception? Please see attached Are kids incld in the max amount of people for each package? or is the max just for adults? Yes Do you have any linens for ceremony or reception? white? colored? are they incld in package price? We offer white linen for both the ceremony and reception. Can we bring our own colored linens if you don't have any?Yes you may are the tables long rectangle? square? round? Square tables are joined to accommodate the number of guests and what are their measurements? We will get back to you on this What is incld in the ceremony decorations? White fabric draping the gazebo and flowers from the garden. If flowers are not available we will use tulle to match your color scheme Can we have a catholic priest for our ceremony? does it cost extra? Please note that the catholic priest does not perform weddings outside the church Can we bring a program that we would like the ceremony to go by, including reading done by family members? This is possible Do the steel drum band play their own music or can you ask them to play certain songs? You may forward to us your selections. If we provided a picture of the wedding cake that we would like, is it possible to get something made close to it?We would do our best to match it Do we have to bring our own knife and server? No Can we rent the gazebo and sound system for the night of our wedding, August 6th, 2011?this is possible at a cost of US500 for 2 hours-8:45pm-10:45pm I heard you can have tiki torches lighting the beach around the gazebo for the dance, is this true? if so, how much does it cost? This can be made available at a cost of uS35 each Is there anywhere on or close by the resort to continue the party after our dance is over? The disco will be open until 3pm -

I also asked if they could make a wedding cake that we picked out and she said they would do their best to match the picture that I have. I'm pretty sure they want the picture before hand though. -

Yes, I actually asked the assistant wedding planner that and she confirmed that you can only have the garden grill or italian resturant for a semi private reception. -

Hi, I have my wedding date set for August 6th, 2011 at the GBP. I was just wondering what you girls are leaning more towards for your receptions, the italian resturant or garden grill? I've only seen one picture of each, does one have more privacy than the other? and I noticed that they have wicker chairs, I was hoping to have chairs that I can put silk chair covers on. Does anybody have any info on these locations? -
