  1. I think the older section has the Deluxe Garden View Room, Deluxe Oceanview Room, Junior Suite Gardenview and Junior Suite Oceanview. In order to be in the newer section, it's either the Preferred or Premium Junior Suites or the Presidential Suites, which are the pricier rooms.
  2. For every one else out there who's resort charge $6 for a votive and candleholder (yes, that for EACH one), Costco has a pack of 24 LED tealights on for $14.99. At least these won't blow out if it's windy!
  3. I really could used the extra wedding allowance, but I guess I'll be sharing bags amongst everyone!
  4. Here is what my TA just got back to me with: "I just heard from Air Canada Vacations and they said the you did not qualify for the Business class upgrade because you are flying to Cancun and this promo does not apply to Cancun destination. If you wish to upgrade to Business class is an additional of $ 500.00 per person." Darn!
  5. Just heard back from Aurora. If you want the chivari chairs for the ceremony and reception, you have to pay for them twice - so $14 each plus set up and tax. There goes my chairs:(
  6. And I told them to go ahead and try to find cheaper rates - I did! My TA beat them all.
  7. Since I haven't had my wedding there yet (but I want to know the answer to the Tiffany chairs question too!), I'll just respond to the guest question. Now matter where you went, people were going to complain. If you picked somewhere less expensive, they would complain about you picking a crummy resort. I told people that I wanted a resort outside of hustle of Cancun and Playa, with good food I could eat without getting sick from and I could avoid the buffet all week long if I felt like it. And it was my wedding, so I wanted to go somewhere nice for myself and my fiance and I understood if people couldn't be there because of financial reasons - that I would be thinking about them, and I'm sure they would be thinking about me.
  8. I found the little Tide packs in the travel section at Walmart - $2 for 3 little packs.
  9. Do you mind me asking what the measurements were? I'm going to reconfirm with the resort, but there's no way I'm paying $450 if I can pick up the material for $50. Did you use regular tulle or organza?
  10. I just got my planning package in an email and in it, it quotes $450 for the same arch setup and I couldn't believe it - it's about the easiest arch set-up you can get! Did you bring your own material?
  11. Curtney17, you're pictures are BEAUTIFUL. Can I ask if they charged you extra for the arch decorated that way? Did you have to bring your own fabric?
  12. Do all bride and grooms that have their group traveling with Air Canada Vacations get an upgrade to first class? We booked through iTravel, but are traveling with ACV, and there was no talk of an upgrade.... I could use that extra baggage allowance!
  13. We're booked with Air Canada and we have people connecting from St. John's, Deer Lake, Gander (NL), Halifax, Montreal and Fredericton all to the same flight to Mexico in Toronto. We used iTravel and I found them pretty good.
  14. Hi everyone, I'm getting married on November 24th at Dreams Tulum. Is there anyone else here that's getting married around the same time at Dreams?
  15. We initially chose to wait until people booked to ask people to stand for us. However, one of my best friends (known her for 19 years and was her maid of honor) hinted around constantly and I caved and went against our original plan and asked her to be my maid of honor. She was extremely excited and even said she would make sure she wouldn't be more than 6 months pregnant for our wedding (she was trying for her second child). then when it came time to book, it all fell apart. There was no money for a trip. I understand it's expensive, but it would have been much easier if she had told me that from the get go that she actualy couldn't come. My advice? Wait until people put down the deposit!
  16. We've been together over 9 years and we spent the year before getting engaged putting it off because I dreaded the thought of planning a traditional wedding. You can imagine how well it went over with all the Newfoundland relatives ( except our parents - they were awesome) when we told them we were going to Mexico! Everyone was a bit miffed they weren't getting a huge "party" ( aka one day full of stress and $ where I probably would have no time to spend with anyone anyway).
  17. Hi! I'm from Newfoundland, living in Halifax, getting married this November in Tulum, Mexico!
  18. Thank you everyone! I'll have TONS of questions in the future - but i'm trying to restrain myself from being a control freak! Part of the reason we're doing a destination wedding was so I wouldn't have breakdown planning it, but travel agent #1 almost had me cancel the whole thing and get married at city hall. TA #2 was much better, so now I'm trying to listen to my fiancee's advice: relax, don't plan anything else for a full month and focus on all the rum punch I'll drink and spa time I'll have!
  19. Anything to save us all some cash..... I'm end of November in Mexico, probably 30 people. I think everyone else is earlier than November.....
  20. Jewel93, I was on the forum months ago, not even thinking about dress shopping and I saw this post! I was on vacation in Florida at the time and had a girlfriend call every bridal salon within 4 hours of home - and no one had it to try on. two phone calls later, I found a place in Tampa that had it and i tried it on and bought it the very next day. So a great big thank you!
  21. Hi everyone! We're finally getting hitched (after 9 years) at Dreams Tulum on November 24, 2011. Apparently, it's American Thanksgiving but no one told me until after it was all booked (I'm Canadian)! Here's hoping I won't have a huge turkey buffet anywhere near my reception!
  22. We're Nov 24/11 and we're also fuchsia and turquoise.....where are you getting married?
  23. Unfortunately, can't use sunwing - too many different departure gates! Air Canada isn't budging either....would have been nice!
  24. Question for Canadian brides - were any of you able to take advantage of the 6th room free promotion that is currently on the website? Air Canada Vacations is telling me it's every 16th room because it's a wedding group. The fine print on the Dreams website states that only free weddings wouldn't apply, but we're not doing the freebie.
