  1. I, too, was looking at one at David's but haven't bought yet because I thought it might be too busy with my dress (it has an embellished one-should design with flowers). http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Fabric-Flower-Clip-with-Pearl-and-Crystal-Center-F7973_Accessories-Headpieces-Pins-Combs-Flowers
  2. yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy june11bride! way to go - you look GREAT, and I feel the same way, too. I accomplished my goal in only month one. wondering what will happen next... ; )
  3. wow, chicago bride! you have some elements I've never see before. did marvin do the string of flowers across the gazebo? and the rose petals? how many did you order? did the royal switch out the chairs for you? and the long table on the beach - where did you get the lanterns? lots of creativity there - I love it. congrats on being married!! : )
  4. that's fantastic - what a great dress on you! it fits perfectly, and I love the bustle idea. : )
  5. I definitely have my heart set on wearing a chapel-length veil, even if it does blow. someone suggested putting invisible snaps on my dress. that way, if I want it secured (e.g. for the ceremony), I can have snapped and then I can unsnap it for the photos. they also said even the veil can be bustled, so I'll probably try that for the reception. I think the veil is a really elegant look and agree with the other brides - when else will you get to wear a veil? : )
  6. wow. lots of great advice here from everyone. : ) for me, I didn't have that "moment" with all the emotion (my mom cried when they first put a veil on me with a different dress, and later I was like, "you cried at the wrong dress!!" ; ) like other girls said, I knew it was the dress only after we had left the shop and it was the one I couldn't stop thinking about (truth be told, it was the first dress I tried on during my session, and the whole time I just wanted to put it back on). I had seen pictures of it the night before, too, and it was the one I WANTED to like most. it was clearly the winner that day, but I did try on dresses two other places, and each resulted in a favorite there. when I went back to try on the original favorite again, I smiled bigger than I had anywhere else. and the photos my mom took really helped a lot, too. it was the one that was most 'me.' that's also what I keep telling my FI when he asks about it. best of luck in your search. if there's not one that sticks out to you yet, maybe you simply haven't found it. but if there's one that you definitely want to put on again and are often looking at online and visualizing your accessories with... that's it. : )
  7. I vote #1 on the ring. if you want more sparkle, I'd think you would have to go with a different ring - something more like the Tiffany Novo with pave diamonds around the band.
  8. sorry, no experience with etsy, but I did get a great (plain) veil from David's bridal. it was a chapel length with pencil edge and only $69: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Chapel-Length-Veil-with-Pencil-Edge-669_Accessories-Veils-Cathedral I did notice one of the etsy sellers was also a seamstress in austin, and she trained in eastern europe before working at david's bridal. I wasn't able to find her craigslist ad, but that's how I learned about her initially. best of luck!
  9. I voted for #2 because I think the other colors/designs may compete too much with the dress. I'm in a similar situation wearing a one-shoulder gown, and though I LOVED the fuschia shoes I tried on, they took away from the dress, so I ordered the same pair in ivory. best of luck to you! : )
  10. LOVE etsy and swarovski. and sometimes the starfish idea can translate into pearls or shells or something that's from the ocean. if you're feeling adventurous, you could always buy something at your destination. then, they'll have a local souvenier as well!
  11. hmm... I think it's more about the skill of the people doing the alterations and how well they can infer your body shape from the pinning. I once had a pair of jeans taken down a number of sizes and had about half a dozen fittings to get them to the right fit. the dress could be the same way - it may be that you put it on and relatively little needs to be done, so you only need a couple fittings. or could be that something doesn't fit quite right or there's an odd wrinkle that needs to be removed. I think things like that happen pretty often, so then it's just whether someone can remove it the first time or if it's more complex and takes a few more tries. regardless, I'm certain they'll make it the dress of your dreams. congrats on finding The One! (x2!!
  12. if you want the height, I think those are great, and they look super comfortable (which is something that's often sacrificed for 4" ; ) I've only ever heard of wearing wedges on the beach, so they may be just what you need. maybe a dress-rehearsal before the wedding would help you decide? best of luck!
  13. my experience in trying on petticoats in the store was they actually made the dresses cooler by sort of lifting the layers up and away from your legs and putting a nice cool layer of sheer fabric in between. maybe that would help with the heat? and having your shoulders bare is always a good thing when it comes to heat - I definitely think that would help balance a full skirt.
  14. ahhhaa, the one that leaves at 4am sounds dangerous ; ) I can see us running for the ship at 3:45am.
  15. thanks for the recco, jess. I've been thinking about a mediterranean cruise as well and was curious which lines are best.
  16. hey debbie - I think both are great in their own right, and it really comes down to what you like and what you think looks best. what if you waited until the first dress was in and then tried them on back to back? have someone take pictures and see which you prefer. you may find your instincts were right on the first - then again, it may be that you really grew to love the second. but I think it's especially tough without trying both dresses in the same day. I'd say not to panic just yet - you have a fantastic dress AND a fabulous back-up -- not to mention time to spare before the wedding. just see how you feel after trying on the one you ordered and then go from there. best of luck. : )
  17. yaaaayyyyyyyy! so glad to hear it - thanks, mocha. best of luck, nurse m! : )
  18. I don't think the $9 star is the same one that's being passed. I purchased the now-travelling clear starfish from thebridalbox.net. they were awesome and shipped it to Canada the same day I spoke with them for only $6 shipping. Total cost was $21.94. at the time, I went to bouquetjewels.com, and the starfish you're looking for is 'star of the sea'. back then, they only had the tan starfish on closeout, but I just checked today and they have clear ones, too, at only $4!! crazy. http://www.bouquetjewels.com/product_p/star%20of%20the%20sea.htm the text below the picture says that only the Lt Colorado Topaz is in stock, but the menu allows you to select Clear. hmm. please let me know how it turns out. I may buy another for backup. ; )
  19. heee. and on a side note, Sean T has become a sort of invisible fixture our lives. like when I want to eat something but know it's bad, I'll say, "Sean T says no." we even got a new fish for our saltwater aquarium that we named after him! I think there's a slight resemblance in the mouth. ; )
  20. haha, that's hillarious about him saying terrible things about Sean T. : )
  21. hey ladies - this weekend, my FI and I went to the mall to see what linen suit options were out there. they carried one at Men's Warehouse - a sand-colored light linen suit by Calvin Klein. Dillards had none, Macy's had a few semi-linen options (not real linen but kinda looked the same... kinda), and Nordstrom's had several different pants but only one complete suit. on our way out of Nordstom's, my FI busts out with, "Hey, I think I liked the one at Men's Warehouse." I realize that was our only option for purchase that day, but we're planning a year out, and I know he wouldn't have chosen it if he didn't love it. so we return to MW where they are having an extroardinary sale - BUY ONE GET ONE ON EVERYTHING, INCLUDING SUITS. so we could have just picked up the pants for ~$120, but FI and I both loved the jacket (even if he wears it only for the ceremony, that's ok), so he got a second GORGEOUS Calvin Klein suit in a silver-y gray to wear for formal occasions. the price for both? only $550 (after tax), which I thought was sensational. just wanted to share the good news - according to the salesclerk, the sale runs through next weekend. best of luck shopping! -kelly
  22. ooo, I like the no repeat thing. it's what finally made me start to enjoy the pure cardio dvd. I can't wait to try it!! : ) thanks for the advice.
  23. do it!! : ) I feel the same way, and comfort was a priority. of course, I still ended up with 4" platform heels, but solely because they were the most comfortable heel I tried, and my mom said the height really added to the dress (I'm 5' 4" on a good day ; ). it's your wedding, you should get to wear what you want, especially where your comfort is concerned.
