  1. Rissa - We are using destinationweddings.com ourselves. Going local may be easier if most of your guests live in your area. The resort handles all the planning - your agent just arranges travel. Although they can help with the planning. It just depends on what kind of planner they are. My guests received a 30% discount. However they had to put a room deposit down - $200 for double occupancy and the minimum is 10 rooms to keep your discount. The resort does specials during late summer to early fall to get people to book. If you're okay with waiting you can get a great rate. That's what we did. We got an early booking discount in August and got 10 rooms reserved - so now any guest gets the rate too. Just tell your resort coordinator what you want and need and they'll arrange it for you. They can be slow in response - so keep that in mind. I'm sure you read that 1,000x on here. LOL
  2. Hello June Brides! Is anyone getting married at The Royal Playa Del Carmen?
  3. Lisa - Love the pics girl! You totally rocked it. I can't wait to meet Fernando!! I really like the eye makeup, very glamorous. Rissa - I used a travel agent. It just made more sense to me to have one person make arrangements for everyone. We have the luxury package and the photos & video are included. We're using their photographer but not during the ceremony so that person doesn't get in the way of our own photographer. So it seems that they changed their wedding menu? I wonder if we can make substitutions? To see pics of the resort photographer - search for LadyDi - she included pics theirs and her own. You can see the quality. Hope this helps!
  4. Perfect! Thanks Ladies!! I'm definitely changing the rsvp date to April. I hope it'll get the last minute stragglers thinking about committing. LOL.. we'll see. Heidi - me too!!
  5. Hey Ladies! Quick Question! How far in advance did you put for your RSVP cards? The wedding is June 17th and at first I thought May 25 was plenty of time but now I'm not sure. I haven't paid for the invites yet so I have time to change the date. Some friends are telling me I should set it in April. If they go through my planner they have until April 16th to pay in full. Suggestions?
  6. Welcome Kate and new brides to be!!! June is a great month and as you can tell, a very popular one. Two months after we set our date with The Royal - I sent out our save the dates. We used www.paperdivas.com magnet save the dates and they have fun tropical themes. I'm a little behind on sending out my invites but finalizing them this weekend. My belief is that if you inform everyone ahead of time and get the save the dates and website up early - no one should be blind-sided or surprised about a destination wedding. They're getting their invites at the end of this month - so still plenty of time before June. Congrats and have fun planning!!
  7. Heidi - Don't forget the amazing weather we've been experiencing in Houston as well. Nothing like Dallas but still crazy for us. Depending on how much you have budgeted, we got his ring at Tiffany's and mine at the now defunct Bailey Biddles and Banks. Although I've been told if I'm nice I may get a band from Tiffany's. I definitely agree with using a wholesaler for your ring - best quality and pricing. One of my friends used a wholesaler for all their rings and they look amazing. PM me and I'll give you his information. Her rings look amazing and he can do any inspired rings as well.
  8. OMG WOMAN!!!! Pure hotness!!! You look so natural, comfortable and confident. All those VS models better watch out!! I may have to get her info from you.
  9. Hello Ladies!! Welcome to all new brides and congrats to all the upcoming February 2011 brides. YAY!!! KShow - can't believe your time literally around the corner!!! It's going to be beautiful. I was looking at Houston Boudoir Photography. Glad to hear you really liked them. Anyone that visited Playa del Carmen - Did anyone check out a place called La Palapa Hemingway? I was watching Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels and she featured a 30min show on Riviera Maya - Playa del Carmen and our Resort!!! I got some great ideas for other places to hang out with our guests. Just curious to know any thoughts. JoZee - love your invites. You did a great job. Can't wait to "run" into you down there in June!!
  10. Hello all my fellow PDC ladies!! I missed out on a lot! The man and I are nursing ourselves back to health from the flu. Lisa- What a beautiful and fantastically planned AHR!!! You both looked amazing and I love your reception dress. Gorgeous!!! That blue suits you!! Kshows- How is planning coming along? Did you work out all the planning kinks? Thanks for posting that great email about The Royal in comparison with other resorts. I am in the not fun task of finally getting our invitations done. Who knew finding the right wording would take so long!!
  11. Happy Belated New Year ladies!! Sorry I'm a little late. I've been stuck in audit hell for two weeks. Diahr- I hope it works out with your in laws! How stressful. Hope the talk goes ok. Heidi- I'm not sure on a good alternations person. My dress shop is doing mine. There's a bridal alteration shop in the Village near Le Peep on Times Blvd and that theatre place. I didn't know Ventura's alterations were iffy. That was one store on my list but I never made it since I found my dress. I'll ask around. Lisa - How is your AHR planning going? Did it happen already? I agree with going with Fernando. He is slightly pricey - you can do a trial run or both trial and makeup day. For both he voted total as $500. But I also have my mom, my mil, sister, sil and best friend for makeup and hair. Make sure you plan extra time for makeup and hair in case anything happens. According to Fernando it'll take him close to 4hrs to do all of us.
  12. Hello ladies!! Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday!! It's almost time for the new year!! WOOT!! Welcome Sarah!! WOW February is right around the corner!! Do we have any January brides?
  13. Heidi - Now that is hilarious!! Too bad my wedding is a month earlier than yours - your Dad would have some company. I'm at Greenway Plaza/West University area. How exciting!! Where are you dress shopping? I got my dress at Now & Forever Bridal near corner of Richmond & Kirby. Maison de Mode in Village and Mia Couture on West Gray are great places as well. I will have to caution - If you go to Brickhouse Bridal - make sure they tell you everything about that dress before you sign the contract. They tried to scam my sister into buying a cheap dress for $$. Where has this year gone!! Crazy that it's almost 2011!!! ACK!! That just means more stuff to finish and decide.
  14. Wow! That is pretty sneaky of them to throw that $300 in. It's not like they're losing any money here. They already upped the outside vendor fee. I must have signed my contract before they put that into place during the summer. That's just ridiculous. Is anyone else taking pics before the ceremony? My ceremony starts at 6pm and I thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of some sunlight before we do our spiritual ceremony. If anyone needs a laugh for the day I have a short story: One of my husband's friends is officiating our ceremony. Now remember the scene from Couples Retreat where Salvadori the Yoga instructors comes out of the water and says he plans to put something more comfortable and it's another speedo. We meet up with him and another guy friend for drinks. Apparently this part in the movie is their inspiration. They begin telling me how they plan to start the ceremony. Scott our officiant will swim and rise up from the water flexing his pecs, he will then change into another speedo that says encourage me on the front and Boom! on the back. And apparently all of them will change into speedoes that say the same thing and they will all talk like him! Imagine the horrified look on my face as I hear this!! As much as they are joking - I wouldn't put it past them. So if any of you ladies see this the week of June 27, 2011 - yes it is my wedding. Feel free to take pics!! :-)
  15. Happy Holidays Ladies!! Ditto on the quietness - I guess with Hanukkah and Christmas activities - everyone is getting busy with parties and outtings. I know for me it means getting ready for year-end audit in January. Long hours at the office. For the girls that are getting married June 2011 - have you sent out formal invites yet? I feel like I'm a little behind. My goal was to have invites sent out by now. I can't believe I'm almost 6 months out!!! Where has the time flown by? Congrats JoZee!! It's a great feeling when you finally starting seeing guests booking. I have no idea who I'm using for travels. My wedding TA is handling all that for me.
  16. Lisa - OH NO!! I'm so sorry to hear that. The fact that you are even doing an AHR is amazing and shows how much you care about people being apart of your celebration. Due to budgeting we're not doing one at all - hence having a destination wedding. Keep your chin up and stay positive. Hopefully they will understand your point of view.
  17. Gorgeous!! Randi- what a beautiful bride!! I love the catamaran idea. What a great way to relax and have fun with your guests!! Your hair looks amazing!!!
  18. You had hair extensions?! No way. Seriously can not tell!! Very natural looking. WOW!! Did your hair stay curled like that the entire time? Awesome!!
  19. Heidi - I am on the same page as you!! We're in Houston too. We're definitely doing an indoor reception. We would rather have everyone in AC comfort instead of complaining how much more humid it is. LOL..... Are you bringing your own photographer or using the resorts?
  20. Congrats!! That is fantastic news!! For some reason my reply didn't post with the reply. LOL
