Why are you having a destination wedding?
june11bride replied to schmizer's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We have always loved to travel, and we got engaged in Mexico. When there, we saw a wedding happen on the beach. My FI suggested we could get married in Mexico too. However, I didn't really like how small the wedding was, and they had their reception at the table next to us for their reception! Therefore, I was put off by it, becaues while I didn't want anything huge, I wanted more than just a dinner. As it turned out, we were at a TINY resort (I hadn't yet seen one of the giant ones!!) so I didn't know what was possible. We went home, excited about being engaged. The DW idea had gone out of my mind. We had 2 years to plan, but I wanted to get started. However, when I started looking through magazines and trying to make decisions, it just didn't feel right. I started making a guest list, and when I would add someone, I had to add another person....and it became way too much. Why would I want people I barely know sharing in a very intimate moment? Thus, we revisited the DW idea. We started looking at more resorts and bigger packages, and started to get really excited. However, our families arne't exactly rich and there are some of them we wouldn't go without, so we were wary at first. We decided to mention it to people to see how it would go over. Surprisingly, people thought it was a great idea!! We started getting really excited, and even wnet back to Mexico to look at resorts. 5 months before my wedding I know a billion percent we are making the right decision- it feels so right. We are very private people so only the people we really care about will be there. We have had to make some sacrifices but not enough to make any part of this process negative. We have to pay for my FI's mom to come because she has NO means to come, and we are paying for half of his brother to come because they have a new baby and aren't really in the place to pay. It has gotten a little more expensive than we originally planned, but it is absolutely perfect, and beyond anything I could have dreamed of!! -
No, I can barely get on a plane, let alone jump off one! Though, having a parachute attached to me would help lol. Would you ever not tell a best friend that her boyfriend is cheating on her to save her feelings?

My ceremony is at 2pm and my reception isn't until 630...I have wondered about this too, feeling bad for my guests. But then I remembered...it's all inclusive. What's stopping them from just going together to a restaraunt if they are starving?? They can do the group shots and be done by 330 or 4 and have plenty of time to go eat or have some drinks. I definitely decided a cocktail hour would be a waste of money.Plus I wouldn't be there

I thought I'd share my list of what I have done and what I still need to do! I hope others will share too (so I can see if I'm on the right track!). We are getting married June 11 2011 at the Barcelo Riviera Maya Palace resort. What I've done: Bought my dress!! Bought the wedding bands Ordered all my OOT bags (free from vistaprint) Decided on, purchased, and am working on hand painting my fan favors (will be given out at the ceremony) Sent out invites Picked menu, reception location, ceremony location Booked photographers (bringing from Kelowna) Still need to do: Possibly get his wedding band engraved Dress fittings (waiting til I lose more weight!) Purchase bridesmaid dresses Choose ceremony script Choose wedding songs Order chair sashes (apparently my resort doesn`t have aqua or turquoise!) Send out pre travel brochure Figure out how the documentation works for a legal ceremony Get PADI certified! Finish ordering OOT bag contents (I should actually stop soon!) Figure out groomsmen and groom attire Figure out centerpieces Lose 10 lbs! Lol. Hunt people down and pressure them to book!! (Lol just kidding....sort of...)

(No, I'm not a doctor...but I could be by now! lol) 3- I have my first day off this month tomorrow and plan on spending it doing wedding stuff!!

Involving Maid of Honor...
june11bride replied to islandbride8's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I have the same problem. Because I am doing a DW I have little to do in preparation of the wedding, and therefore love to do all the little details myself. My MOH is in a different city, but my bridesmaid sister is always asking what she can do. I feel bad saying nothing, since I did so much for her wedding and I know she'd return the favor, but I really love sitting at home doing these little projects!! In the end, we will be spending a week together in Mexico for the wedding and there will be lots for them to do to help. Plus they are all busy so they are probably glad I'm not a bridezilla!! I send them pics when I'm struggling with a decision, etc so I hope that helps them -

I would if I was in love with them...it is unlikely it would happen to me since I'm only 24 lol. Would you ever run away to get married and not tell anyone until after?

I still have to read the third book but I LOVE it!! I'll have to come back when I"m done..

We are bringing our photographers to MX ..they live 8 hours drive away from us. We drove down to meet them because we really liked their work and were giving us a good deal. They agreed to do our wedding for the cost of their trip (we paid for them for 6 nights at our resort and flights). They are giving us their most expensive photo package which includes both of them shooting us (they are a married couple), all day coverage (they said they'd stay all night), a LOT of photos, a TTD session, and engagement session (which we are just going to do when we get there), thank you cards, and more. We definitely figured it would be a good deal for us since the most important part of the wedding for us is the pictures. We also didn't like the photographers at our resort.

Prenuptial Agreement?
june11bride replied to Tiffanya21's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I will not be doing one...everything we have we have pretty much obtained while being together. He was the first one I lived with, and we have gone through university together, so anything we have now, we both earned together. No one goes into a marriage expecting it to end, but I can see the importance of protecting yourself no matter what. I know people who have suffered because of not protecting themselves. I just happened to not have great reason to. -
Can you tell us about your experience with dhgate??
