  1. I'm going to check it out. It might work for something I'm thinking about if I can find the right size! Thanks!! I really think your little bags look great!! Cool idea!
  2. very cool! love the different colours! now - where the heck did you get such cool mugs???
  3. Everything looks great! Where did you get those adorable little bags? And the colours look super! I'm using the hot pink but with turquoise however the navy looks really good!!
  4. @@Taniaandedward - Congratulations and welcome to the site! Every comment above is great and dead on point! You will absolutely find tons of information and tips here! I'm a Jamaica bride, so i would probably be biased in favour of there for a DW. If it helps, we were both divorced and older, so if you think about paperwork, it was super easy for us to get married in Jamaica! No translating documents which can really run you up some money. No blood tests, or aggravation. That's the main reason we opted for Jamaica. We both love Mexico, but in terms of working everything out, it was just too much. I did also look at Aruba, I think like everyone else, and if you read the rules to get married... ouch. There is a lot there for rules. It put me off, and your price point for Aruba is really expensive! We have friends that were married in St Lucia, and the only reason they did was because her father knew the one of one of the resorts there and gave them preferred pricing on their rates. When I looked at the pricing for us, it was just too cost prohibitive so that put St Lucia out of reach too. I would definitely recommend Jamaica. There is such a wide range of resorts and pricing available, and resorts that you wold be able to fit to any age range of your guests. We were married at the Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay, which is about an hour from the airport in MB, but the ride went pretty quickly. Not bad at all. As to your other questions, I agree with AllieH. Just about anything goes nowdays with weddings, within reason of course. And absolutely you will have people that won't be able to attend your wedding so will very likely give you a gift. We put it out there that we didn't want to add to costs for anyone travelling (no one did in the end) so no gifts were expected, and we had been living together anyway for 10 years so there was nothing we needed. If you wanted to you could save your bachelorette party for your destination. Would be something different to consider so yes - go ahead with a bachelorette party!! You could investigate itravel2000 or selloffvacations if you wanted to. They both have wedding coordinators that will do group rates for you, and when I inquired the rate from itravel2000 was pretty good. We used an agent in downtown Toronto and loved her. She was great to work with. But getting an agent is a must. They will make your life so much easier, and answer the myriad of questions that your guests are bound to have. Good luck and happy planning!!
  5. You looked beautiful, and the dress definitely suited you! I would love to be that size again, but unfortunately it has been many years... lol I'm sure you'll find someone that will fall in love with it!. it's a gorgeous dress!
  6. Congrats and welcome to the site! Have you checked any of the vendor reviews yet to see if there are any comments? It's a good starting place. I'm sure there will be someone on the site that is familiar with who you're asking about. You'll find everyone on the site is more than willing to share information and tips and ideas. Good luck and happy planning!
  7. Congratulations and welcome to the site! I'm sure there will be someone here that can help you out with information. You could also check the vendor reviews and see if there are any comments about any of the planners. I never used one and did everything myself. From what I've seen I think the majority of brides do, but you never know. Good luck and happy planning!
  8. It's always nice when someone finds a special site or place to find something and shares it! thanks!
  9. This was our cake topper in Jamaica. I still have it and want to use it again if we get to renew our vows.
  10. Very pretty. I used a regular bouquet but the fan is a lovely idea!
  11. Congrats and welcome to the site! you'll find a ton of information, tips and ideas here, and everyone is very willing to share! Good luck and happy planning!
  12. My dress travelled to Jamaica from Toronto in an overhead bin. I got a regular fabric garment bag from Davids Bridal and put my dress in it. It has a little loop at the bottom that allows for easy carrying, or you can hang the bottom over the top of the hanger. I commandeered an overhead. my husband put his bag in then I laid my dress, folded only once in half and laid it on top of his bag. Then I stood guard over the bin until everyone was on so that nobody could add anything else to the bin! There were 3 wedding dresses on our flight!! lol But it worked. It made it without any problems, then I hung it in the bathroom the day before the wedding and turned the shower on hot to steam the bathroom and just let the dress hang. Once I did that I just hung it up high in the room so that it all "trained" down. It was in perfect shape and I didn't have to have the resort steam it. Just as an FYI, most resorts will charge upwards of $90 or $100 to steam your dress. I bought a portable hand steamer in Walmart in the US before we left and practiced with it just in case I did need it once we got to Jamaica. I lugged it all the way there and didn't need it, then lugged it all the way back home and put it in the closet. It hasn't seen the light of day since! lol Unless you have a silk satin wedding dress, it won't wrinkle as badly as you think. Chiffon or organza travels very well. Just make sure you put it hanging into a parent's or bridesmaid's room once you arrive. Don't leave it crammed in the travel bag right up until your wedding. It does need to breathe, but if you shower steam it for an hour or so, it will be ok. Good luck and happy planning!!
  13. Oh I love that you phrased it that way! Mature! I like that lol I guess that's what I am too lol I'm 56 in just a couple of weeks and second time arounder... (is that a word?) We have 7 grandkids and I have 2 kids and 2 step kids but really all 4 are mine. Getting married again wasn't in the cards for us until health issues sort of made the decision for us, and now we're looking at a vow renewal for the same reason. I'm still trying to finish the research for the "where", and thankfully have time yet before I have to decide. And another hospital stay to get through too. But then hopefully it will all come together! 3 weeks is so close! And yes this site is fabulous for ideas, and tips and information. I'm glad it was helpful for you! Be sure to post pictures when you get back! Good luck and congratulations!
  14. I agree with lhills. I really like the organza sashed, but that's just my personal opinion. I say go with whatever you like! It's your day after all!
  15. Welcome to the site and congrats! There is definitely no shortage of information here, and you'll find the brides, both past and present, very willing to share ideas and tips! You present 2 very different markets in terms of destination weddings. Firstly, the site owner Tammy is a Cabo bride so she would be a good source of info. A large number of brides on the site are heading to Mexico, so again tons of info. I would highly recommend reading the resort reviews to see what past brides have experienced. That's a good way to see what the resort could offer. Otherwise, it's research! I know you'll get recommendations from other brides but it will boil down to what you want and like. Cancun is definitely a party city, and some people will stay away from Cancun for that reason. I would also definitely recommend a travel agent! First of all it will make life easier for you, and for your guests. As well a travel agent will be the best person to help with suggestions for resorts and also to let you know if the resort has any promos available that will benefit you and your group. you don't say if you're in the US or Canada but the site owners - Wright Travel are destination wedding specialists and award winners with a couple of the chains of resorts. They have a wealth of knowledge that I'm sure will be a benefit to you. There is a contact form to reach out to them on this site. As well, they are running a series of webinars for several different resort chains that are attended by both a TA from Wright Travel and a rep from the resort. That may be something else for you to look into. They are run on Saturdays over the next few weeks and you can sign up on the site. Good luck and happy planning!
  16. I started out with destinationweddings.com and hated them! I would call and get nowhere. I would ask for info and it would take a few days before I heard anything back. I finally just gave up, but I definitely wouldn't recommend them!
  17. Congrats to everyone planning in Cancun! I'm looking at our vow renewal in Playa del Carmen October 20, 2015 so a long way to go yet, but I did look at Cancun too. Just decided Playa was smaller and easier to get around. Happy planning!!
  18. Very nice! And so well organized! You'll have to make sure you post wedding pics!!
  19. Toronto here. Well actually Mississauga but I work in Toronto. We're working at planning a vow renewal for Playa del Carmen for October 2015. Gran Porto Real is still number one choice, but Grand Sunset Princess is right there too. I also did the site webinar last month for Playacar Palace and was impressed with what I heard from the Rep. I definitely can recommend Marlin Travel on Bay street as an agent. They were super to work with! We had our at home reception in Burlington since that's where we lived at the time, in a hotel overlooking the lake. The room had floor to ceiling windows so when it got dark we had the lights out over the lake, plus from the Skyway bridge. It was really pretty. We just had a small group - only 30 - but people still talk about it. We had a great night! I'm very lucky that my step-son lives in the US so I order things and have them sent to his address, then just pick them up when we go down to see our grandkids. A heck of a lot cheaper and the shipping rates are unreal compared to canada!! I know a few good websites for decorations if anyone is interested, depending on what you're looking for. Right off the bat I would recommend www.etsy.com for all kinds of things. Happly planning ladies!
  20. I love people that can DIY, cuz I certainly can't! lol My first question would be are you printing them yourself? If so, can your printer handle a heavy weight paper? A lot of home printers can't take heavy weighted paper. If you have somewhere to print them, then second thing would probably be go for a heavier weight paper to give your project stability. I looked at 100 lb which is quite a bit thicker, perhaps too think. I'm wondering if your tickets should be in your 92 lb weight, again for the stability. That would be my guess. Are you by any chance using Paper Garden paper? I love the curious metallics! I think what I used was something like snow ice - sort of a pearlized off white. Sorry that wasn't more help.
  21. I'm in love with the bridesmaid dress and sent a pic to my daughter in law. she fell in love with it too, so now we've picked it in fuchsia for her!
  22. Ok girls. This old lady has a question... lol What the heck is a Cuncrawl? or maybe I don't want to know?? lol or maybe I shouldn't know??? lol
  23. Wow! Aren't you clever! That looks really great! What have you decided to put in with them? Are you just going to do a small plastic bag and attach the fold over? What is your plan for printing? Sorry for all the questions..... there are people on here that claim to not be DIYers and then produce something like what youv'e done!! lol Well.... I am truthfully NOT a DIYer in any way, shape or form!! I want to do something like this, but we have such a small group I don't know if it will be worth it or not. It definitely wouldn't be expensive for a small group. Is this easy to edit if I wanted to steal any part of it???? lol
  24. Congrats! That's so exciting! Your first baby is always the most exciting I think! They all are, but the first is just.... even more. It's weird to be on this site when my kids are all the age of a lot of the ladies here! lmao And I'm grandma to 7 - 4 girls and 3 boys. Even with each of them it was exciting and so special! They grow up way too quickly, believe me! Enjoy! And good luck!
