  1. I agree with 1beachbride, and as well, ask the store for a strapless bra to try with the dresses, similar to what Victoria Secret stores do. or if you have one yourself take it with you. you'll get a better idea of how your dress fits if you wear an undergarment similar to what you think you'll wear for your wedding. keep in mind too that with some dress styles they can build bra cups right into the dress for you so you don't have to wear a bra. sometimes in a warm climate that makes you more comfortable without bra elastic across your back in the humidity. good luck and have fun with it!!!!!
  2. lol it's a mom's job to try to prevent wars between siblings! I know.... I have 2 kids and 2 step kids but they're really all 4 of them mine! but sometimes it's a good thing they're all married and don't live at home anymore!! lol the 2 middle boys are completely insane, and the oldest and the youngest are the 2 serious ones. it definitely does make life interesting! I'm always sorry for anyone that gets their wedding messed up like this, especially when you're young. I'm old now so things don't get to you quite the same. but families really can be a challenge sometimes! good luck! and enjoy!!! if you don't let it get to you too badly, it really will all turn out in the end!
  3. How would your sister react if you threatened to ditch her? sometimes selfish people just don't clue in to what they're doing, and need to be reminded. when you do, it can make them see a little bit of how what they're doing upsets other people. Worth a shot? I hope it all works out for you!
  4. I'd just ditch the MOH completely. lol Sorry. I'f you have a good friend that's willing to help plan, ask her if she also wants to be MOH.... Family really sucks sometimes!
  5. I just have to say one thing.. of course you can do it alone!!!!! You can always ask here for advice if you need it. And there are other brides using the same resort that you are so I'm sure they would be helpful. I'm a Jamaica bride too, and spent quite a bit of time on the resort site that we used. I'm sure you could get some help here. I did look at Helen G in the very, very beginning but realized that it wasn't as bad as I thought so didn't bother. In the end we were only the two of us so it wasn't a big deal. Just thinking maybe it's an expense that can be saved?
  6. Thanks! You just gave me one of the things I was looking for! The luggage tags.... I did my inserts through vistaprint. maybe I'll get brave and post them here... I'm not sure. But I got them from vistaprint for about $6 so no complaints here for that price!!!
  7. Congrats on getting your location! One stresser removed! I think it's a beautiful resort but yes - these resorts do seem to nickel and dime you for everything. I'm curious about the Grand Coral Beach Club that you found. Did they send you any info that you would be willing to share, or did you just work through the website? I looked it up quickly and you're right - it's really nice!!
  8. I agree with @@1BeachBride. My first thought was etsy too. I've looked there and found one or two things that interest me so I'm sure you would find something. And yes, the prices do range all over but I still found they were pretty reasonable. Definitely check out the bridal salons too. that's their business so they do carry all the accessories. And yes, I'll agree with Jen too. Shoes will depend on where you're wedding is. Heels won't work in the sand so a wedge, or low sandal would work, or even the new barefoot jewellery, then shoes for afterwards. Then you could go all out and get whatever you want. I had to have my dress hemmed carefully because I wore heels for our ceremony, but then had to have lower shoes for the evening and dancing so they went middle of the road with hemming my dress so as to accommodate both. Good luck!
  9. Wow - that's gorgeous! I went dress shopping alone for the first time, then took someone with me the second time. What a disaster! Long story but I should have just stuck it out on my own or taken someone different. She was too busy shopping for herself! So needless to say, I'm a fan of the first time or two going on your own. Then when you narrow it down, if you can find someone to go with you, then I would. Get a second opinion. You're right about the store clerks. They want a sale so they'll tell you whatever they think you want to hear. I do have a suggestion, and I don't know how you feel about it. You could always put out a shout on this site and find a bride to be from this site that lives close to you and would be willing to be an "opinion" for you. At least you will know that it's someone in the same boat as you so that would want you to look your best and work with what you're thinking, and you would get an impartial, non-biased opinion. I'm sure in all the brides on this site you would find someone that would volunteer! I think the pic you posted is beautiful and would be perfect for a beach wedding!
  10. OMG! (squeal!) lol that looks totally awesome!! If there is one area that I have absolutely no talent it's DIY. I can knit but somehow I don't think anyone would appreciate a knitted luggage tag! lol You did a great job!!! I vote yay!
  11. I think you need to hit your 150 before you can post. I may be wrong. What you can try is when you go to reply, right beside it is "more reply options". click on that if you have it. when that opens up you'll see an upload spot where you can browse and upload anything up to 5MB at a time. If you don't have it, then it's probably because you need the 150 posts.
  12. you're there and over the top!! congrats!!! 209!
  13. It's quite surprising how little time these resorts need for the "final details". Most won't start paying really close attention to your wedding until about 2 months before your date!! They're generally busy with all of the other weddings that are in line before yours! It's quite the business for them! Then a lot of little details don't even get finalized until when you actually show up and do your WC meeting right before your wedding!! Having said that, you could definitely get in touch with them and start outlining what you want just in general. Keep all your communications!! Print them out and start a file of them and make sure you have it to take with you!! It's sad to read some brides' stories where they have arrived on site only to find out there are things that aren't as they wanted them to be and they've had to fight to get them. It's not the norm, but it does happen. If you have it in writing in an email, you stand a better chance of getting what you want and it is proof that it was something that was discussed with the WC. Happy planning!
  14. The thing is these aren't the final choices! lol I'm looking through 4 different designers - Essense, Allure, Mori Lee and David Tutera for Mon Cheri. These 3 are top contenders but it will come down to the trying on, and that again won't be until after the next surgery. No point otherwise. I know I'm leaning towards a couple of styles. The ruffles as long as there is bling! The keyhole back, again with bling. And strapless drop waist. Essense has 2 beautiful ones that are in colour. I figure anything I find I'll probably take a layer of crinoline out of to tone it down and so that it won't be so hot. Plus the fabric for Mexico in October, which usually is still pretty warm. Chiffon is out though!! I got married in chiffon so it's a definite no go!!! Has to be a lot blingier (?)
  15. Hi. There was a webinar held on March 29th for Dreams RC. I'm not sure if there is anyone else on the site that attended the webinar that might be able to help you out. I would suggest checking out the DRC forums and asking around to see if perhaps someone took notes, or asked questions that are also ones you are looking for answers to. Happy planning!!
  16. Cool!! I love those!! And I love the logo!! That's really cute!!! lol I don't love the price.... but I love the glasses!!! If you do find a better price I'd love to know! We're only going to be about 8 or 10 so I would have a hard time justifying something that expensive, and even more so since it's a vow renewal for us.
  17. I attended a wedding show before we went to Jamaica and asked one of the photographers there how she worked it. What they did was cut their rate by half and you paid their travel. But they worked pretty much the whole stay so wedding and different shots of the couple throughout the resort during the time they're there. If your photographer is also a guest though, that's a bit different. Best bet would be to talk to her and see what she is comfortable with, and also is she going to do shots at other times, or just the wedding? Sorry - that's assuming it's a she. Either way though best thing is to discuss it in advance. Happy planning!
  18. Well again, at least there is loads of time to choose. Do you have info yet? How many people are you expecting? Do you have your travel agent yet? I want to get moving on our stuff, but until the next hospital round is done I'm in waiting mode lol Driving me nuts but we need a good outcome before all of this comes together anyway.
  19. @@Meandhim I work in downtown Toronto and live in Mississauga! With the moderator stuff I don't need to get to the 150 but I'll definitely chat if it helps anyone else out!! your count shows you're there!! congrats!!
  20. I know about the choice! lol No idea what I'm going to do. But I agree about option 3, just adding the keyhole back to it. My wedding dress when we got married was so simple and very plain even though I totally loved it! Since our vow renewal is going to be a celebration of life too I want his jaw to drop! lol I want drama! Now to find it.....
  21. Yep - join the party. At least I have it down to 2, and if doc allows me to travel later in the year and we get to have a vacation in Mexico I'm going to check out both locations. Gran Porto Real is still first choice. I love all the pics of the resort and their packages and how they could be put together for us being a really small group. But the idea of crowds too close to the gazebo makes me nervous so second choice is Grand Sunset Princess and I don't have enough information from them as yet to figure out if it will work for us. I love their gazebos and the packages look pretty good. Thankfully we still have tons of time! What are your choices so far???
  22. So I need some help. I think I'm in love.... times 3. I'm so torn. The Allure might be too fru fruy (??) for Mexico. The Crawley I'm not sure I like the closed back even though I love everything else about it and the Picabo I would add the optional cap sleeves to make it a keyhole back because I'm absolutely in love with that style. I know I'm going to do something with colour, either a champagne or a blush but definitely colour. Comments????? Please????
  23. Hanging in and working crazy hours! How is your planning coming??
  24. If all goes well renewing our vows in Playa del Carmen October 20, 2015, either Gran Porto Real or Grand Sunset Princess!
