  1. Oh My God! your dress turned out just STUNNING!!!! And your pics are gorgeous!!! Wow - the coral colour really is beatuful! It looks like everything went really well. Everyone looks like they're having a good time! One tiny question for you...... I notice your hubby is wearing a vest with a long sleeved shirt. Did he find it warm? Did he have a jacket as well to go over the top? I'm kinda stuggling with that bit. I would like my husband and my son to be in jacket and vest with colours but I'm really worried at the end of October that they're going to be cursing me because they'll be dying with the heat! Congrats on being a Mrs!! All the best!!
  2. oh my gosh that's so pretty!! I love the shade of blue!
  3. lol that's so funny! sorry - don't mean to laugh.... but it is funny!
  4. sigh. unfortunately ladies.... the knees just don't allow beautiful shoes like that anymore! I had beautiful gold sandals for my wedding and barely managed an hour with them on, then had to switch to flats. I used to LOVE wearing gorgeous dressy high heels when I was young! everything now that's new.... was already old and I already wore!! 35 years ago! lol thinking I might try wedges for the renewal... enjoy while you can!!
  5. Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll definitely find a ton of info here that will help you plan your destination wedding!! Good luck and happy planning!!
  6. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. I'm in canada so I'm not sure how much help I could be. I'm reading your post and wondering a couple of things. Did you receive the very colourful marriage certificate from Jamaica? We were also married there, and after almost 3 months we received 2 originals of the certificate of registration of the marriage. We were told that what the minister gave us after the wedding was not official documentation for a name change, only as temporary proof of marriage. I'm not sure how the US does things, but have you actually applied to change your name? I don't mean with the DMV and SSA, etc. I mean actually change your name? It sounds like what the passport office is asking for, and again I'm only reading what you wrote, is the proof that you've actually changed your name. Just because you have a marriage certiicate doesn't mean you're changing your name. I'm not. But there is a difference between a notarized copy and a certified copy. One needs to be done by a lawyer. A notary can notarize any document, but we had to do certified copies of our divorce documents to send to Jamaica, and we had to take the originals into a lawyer, and he had to make a copy, then do an affidavit certifying that it was a true copy of the original. Don't know if that helps you or not, and I'm sorry if it doesn't. Good luck!
  7. Congrats and welcome to BDW! Riu resorts are definitely beautiful resorts and you'll find a lot of brides here that have picked a Riu resort. If you don't already have a travel agent I would highly recommend getting one. They always have inside details on what's available and can help with group rates, etc. Also check out the resort reviews here and the Riu forums. There have been a lot of past and present Riu brides so I know the forums will provide a lot of useful information. Good luck and happy planning!
  8. I think I will check it out. But it won't be until later in the year until after the next surgery. I'm not going to get too far ahead of myself until I know news is good. It's fine to be looking at photographers and resorts and stuff. All the things that really do need to be booked way in advance but dresses I'm going to wait until I know if we can do what we want next year, or if things don't go well and we have to wait until 2016. Ritchie I know about but where are the other two stores? Did you check out Sophie's? They're a bit further out in Etobicoke on Dundas.
  9. Your dress is gorgeous! It suits you perfectly! Don't drive yourself crazy with the other one! But I'm really happy to hear the Kleinfeld experience was worth it! Do they really have stuff in the $1500 price range? That's a great price level for here compared to the US. For that range I would go and look and see what they have. Maybe later in the year once we have our news I'll go and see if they have something I like. I'm really hooked on the David Tutera for Mon Cheri and the Mor Lee lines - did you see any of those at all?? And I am absolutely wearing something with colour. I've already made my mind up about that! lol Thanks for sharing on the field trip and being the guinea pig for the rest of us!! lol job well done!!
  10. A lot of brides have talked about dollar tree stores if you're in the US. if you go on their website you'll be able to see a picture of them. Walmart also sells them, but they're about $5 each, which can add up depending on how many you need. I've seen one or two other sites but they're even more expensive than that. Good luck and happy planning.
  11. Welcome back! I think that's probably one of the easiest requests I've seen for a while. There are quite a few! The NOW resorts are very popular (Jade, Sapphire), as are the Princess resorts - Sunset Princess and Riviera Princess and the Palace resorts.A couple of those also offer adults sections, so if you have people that aren't going to be with kids and want something a little quieter that option is there as well. As always too, Tammy can help out, or one of the ladies from Wright. They've had some really good booking bonuses lately as well so that might be something to factor in when looking around. Good luck!
  12. Congrats and welcome to BDW! This is an awesome site and full of tons of information that will definitely be of some help! At least you already have a TA and that is a great place to start. You'll find after the initial contact you may not hear from the WC for a while, and you may have to be persistent if there is specific info you're looking for. The WC's generally take weddings in turn so they are busy with whatever is current. A lot of brides on this site are very surpised by this and you will definitely hear them quite concerned. But these are professionals at what they do, they do it all the time and your wedding when your time comes will be beautiful. It's helpful if you can have your questions ready to put into one email once you know who your coordinator will be. Some resorts have a few of them. And keep ALL of your emails!! This will absolutely help you out down the road when you're trying to refer back to things that have been communicated. And lastly, read, read, read through this site. I can almost guarantee that something you want to know, someone else has asked so the answer is likely here somewhere. You need to reach 150 posts before you are able to see photos and templates that are posted unless you have a paid membership so snoop around and ask questions, make comments. You'll get to 150 more quickly than you realize. But everyone here is more than willing to share so don't hesitate to ask for someone to email something to you if it's something that you really would like to have. Good luck and happy planning! You've picked a beautiful resort!
  13. Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll definitely find a ton of information here that should help you with your planning. You're definitely a long way out. Generally, once you book your date with the resort, you won't here much from the wedding coordinator until a couple of months before your wedding. A lot of resorts won't even book your date until a year to 18 months out, so if you've been able to book your date already, you're lucky! They will probably send you some intiial info then your contact will be minimal until a few months before just because of all the other weddings they're busy with. Each one in turn. Good luck and happy planning!
  14. You could contact the owners of this website - Wright Travel. They are DW specialists and Tammy is a Cabo bride. You can contact them through the site. They have all kinds of awards and special deals for different resort chains, so I would definitely start there! Happy planning!
  15. Congrats and welcome to BDW! You will definitely find information here that should help you out! There is truly a wealth of it, and everyone is more than willing to share what they've learned! Good luck and happy planning!
  16. Well you will definitely have to take a tough minded friend with you or something... lol so they can pull you back when you start drowning in a dress... ! Seriously though, it just seems like every time a high end US retailer comes here we end up the crap so I really am curious to know whether this is another one of those situations. We are so protectionist here that new stores that open up are forced to carry canadian made merchandise. Well, how many canadian wedding dress makers have you heard of? So my feeling is this will be a lot of hype for lousy product! And nothing even close to what the Kleinfelds store in NYC has!! Good luck!
  17. Congrats on the baby! I've followed your planning misadventures and the horrible way you've been treated, and am very glad your wedding went as well as it did! The important thing is that you married the man of your dreams! And now adding to your family is wonderful news for you! I absolutely LOVE the mad hatter cake. It's just adorable! We did our AHR 2 weeks after we arrived home from Jamaica, and nearly 3 years later people still talk about it! We had a great time! Yours will be amazing I'm sure! You sound like you're so well organized!
  18. Welcome ladies to BDW! This site is wonderful, and you will have a great time here! There is a wealth of information on just about anything you can think to ask about! And now I don't feel so bad that I'm working on an October 2015 date that seems sooo far away! Good luck and happy planning!!
  19. lol you have to go!! that way you can report back! think of it as a reconnaisance mission... lol but absolutely report back on prices!!! Isn't Neiman Marcus coming here? And Saks? and now Kleinfelds.... we're really moving up in the world!! Now we just need Macys and JCPenny. oh yes... and Kohls and we will have it made in the shade!! Have fun and keep us Toronto area brides posted on what you find out!!
  20. no way!! you're going to go?? you HAVE to post an update when you do!!! I saw the ad and thought about it... but between what I know the Kleinfelds prices are and The Bay's prices are... I thought no way. I'll just get suckered into paying like $3,000 or something and not be able to get out of it!! The problem is I work at Queen & University so it's a short walk... I love Friday nights and SYTTD. The ad says you can't get into The Bay without an appointment, but I would love to just go and look!!
  21. The other thing to point out is that the US is structured differently than canadian trips. There aren't the packages the way we get in canada. Usually the hotel is booked, then flight separately. @tracyannhoward It sounds like you might be in the US. Have you checked with a travel agent yet? I would strongly recommend it since they will be able to get you possibly better group rates along with any special offers the resort has, then you can let your guests find their own flights. Some of the group bonuses are really great and worth NOT missing out on, like freebies or special events. I would suggest getting in touch with the site owners - Wright Travel. They are DW specialists and have special access to some of the resorts in terms of negotiating group rates for your time of year and maybe additional stuff. Get in touch with them through this site. And yes - March is definitely the peak travel time and next to Christmas, about the most expensive. October is most definitely a whole lot cheaper because it's low season, along with November. Generally, although there might be exceptions, high season starts Dec 15th and runs right through until April. Everyone wants to escape winter!! Good luck with your planning!!
  22. That's really pretty, and looks great on you! Congrats on getting your dress!! Just brings everything one step closer!
  23. if the UK is like the US and Canada, you don't need to "register" you wedding at home at all. you have your marriage certificate. the marriage is legal if anyone questions you. it's just registered in another country but doesn't need to be re-registered. it's like getting a quickie divorce in Las Vegas.... it's recognized anywhere as long as the requirements are met. Same with getting married elsewhere. We got married in Jamaica. We didn't do a symbolic ceremony there - we did the acutal legal wedding. For whatever we need, we have the certificate to prove we're married. That should be all you need.
