  1. That's right on the money and exactly the experience we had as well before all our plans fell apart! We were using Transat Holidays so it's a safe bet that at least those 2 operate in much the same manner. Having said that, you can also work with one of the tour operators' wedding planners. They seem to all be jumping on the bandwagon now of doing weddings, probably because they have all figured out how much money is to be made from them!! I know Sunwing has a wedding department and I seem to remember from a brochure that Transat also advertizes their own wedding packages too.
  2. My goodness ladies! Everyone is so very well informed and passing on such great information! Yes - the US books differently. You book your hotel rooms and then guests are respnsible for finding their own flights separately, or through whatever agent/site they want to deal with and almost whenever they want. You can still do the same thing in canada if you want, but we have become very spoiled by all inclusive full serve packages.
  3. pretty much set I think on turquoise and hot pink.
  4. This is funny to look back on! lol Look at you now!!
  5. What about the "extra" cups though? You know how VS does their bras with the va voom in them? They have the extra support across the bottom of the cup that gives you the oomph. That's the kind of cup you need to have sewn in. The other thing I've seen, I think on the Davids website, is something you tape underneath the girls but I honestly don't know if it will give the push up that you're looking for. Could they double the cup that they've sewn in?
  6. A lot of times the weather picks up humidity as rain even though it isn't actually rain. When it gets quite humid though, you will generally get a short shower but they rarely last long and the sun comes right out afterwards. I would pay more attention to the temperatures with the humidity level. That would be a better indicatory of whether you'll get a shower or not.
  7. I agree! Not much out there that prevents them. Somebody told me to take a bounce sheet and run it over your skin. For whatever reason they don't like bounce sheets! (go figure!) I honestly don't know if that works or not. Good luck!
  8. Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll definitely find a ton of information here that will help you plan your DW! I would suggest checking the different reviews available and search the different forums for topics you might be interested in. You've picked a beautiful place to get married! Good luck and happy planning!
  9. what about having cups sewn into your dress? or a pushup strapless? personally I like the sewn in cups better. it's what I did. the idea of wearing any kind of bra in the heat just didn't appeal to me but my dress was chiffon so there was no support at all. the bridal store sewed the cups in and it made a huge difference in how the dress fit.
  10. Thank you so much for the info!!!! That's a huge help! I really wanted this property. I love the rooms. Their wedding packages are great and I love the gazebo, but there are things that definitely concern me. I love being so close to PDC too. I guess I'll just have to keep reading. I know @@forevertogether has her wedding long before we have our renewal so I'll probably wait until she comes back for her feedback before I make a final decision. If we didn't need to be close to "things to do" because of certain people I wouldn't care and take something that's maybe 15 minutes away but we have friends that are high maintenance and constantly need to be occupied so I figured PDC would be good that they could go and maybe do some things on their own without being babysat all the time. Gran Porto seemed to fit the bill for that. Now we're looking at our ceremony at Gran Coral and our dinner elsewhere off site so I don't need to worry about that part of it anymore. Just the resort, which is probably the biggest part of it!!
  11. It's very hard not to feel like we're being selfish in circumstances like this. after all, for the majority here, it's your wedding day! a very, very important day in your life. but so is having a baby! and yes, while you're excited that your friend is having a baby, it's very natural to be disappointed that she also won't be there to celebrate with you! everything happens for a reason. one day you will find out what that reason is. until then keep the happy thoughts for both you and your friend. you're both being blessed. just in different ways!
  12. Again your timing is perfect! One of the other properties I'm looking at! My big concern is that when you read reviews they say the beach is awful and that it smells and there are boats sitting right there that block the beach! I'm fast leaning away from this property just because of the reviews I'm seeing about the beach. I love that its right "in the thick of it" in PDC and I really, really wanted this resort but the beach reviews are really worrisome! Any comments that can put the mind at ease? I don't want to ask people to pay for what ends up being a horrible beach!! Thanks!! Oh yes - any chance we'll get the webinar rescheduled for GPR?
  13. Our first dance was Ronan Keating "This I promise you." What about Butterfly Kisses for father daughter, or Holly Dunn "Daddy's Hands"? lol Guess you can tell I do like a little bit of country music! lol Sorry ladies...
  14. Our minister did a special reading while we poured the sand. I Just don't remember if it was something I gave him, or if he had it himself, but I think it was his. I know we gave him the marriage poem and he read that right at the end of the ceremony. It's one of my favourites. One tip - try to have something that seals your sand after your pour it. I didn't even think of it and ours shifted in transit coming home so it looks kind of sloppy now. We had our ceremony, then did pictures at the ceremony site. They gave us champagne right after and we chatted with people that we had met at the resort that were there watching. Then they cued up our dance song - Ronan Keating "This I Promise You" and we had our first dance right at the gazebo. It was a bit strange with people standing around but honestly at that point I didn't care. Then we did more pictures around the resort, and went off the resort to a park to do pictures. We came back for sunset shots then went for dinner and cut our cake before we sat down to eat so that the photographer could sit and talk with us and not be worrying about getting pictures. After dinner we went back to our room to freshen up then went to the lobby piano bar for drinks and because we were still in wedding clothes they called us up to the dance floor to have another dance. it was a lot of fun. I definitely was nervous about it being just the two of us and how things would go, but believe me. They have had twosomes plenty of times before so it's nothing new for them. The WC should guide you through it all. It will all be fine and afterwards you'll wonder what you were worrying about!! And Sandals are fabulous for weddings so I would lay strong odds that you'll have an absolutely gorgeous wedding!!
  15. Why would you deny yourself anything just because it's only the two of you?? We didn't! We got married in Jamaica just the 2 of us! No witnesses. No wedding party. Nobody! We had the wedding coordinators as our witnesses! We had a wonderful time! And we did a sand ceremony! And we had a photographer and videographer! And we had a first dance! And I walked down the path to him to music! it was greatl! And we had been together 10 years so just one more year than you!! If you want a great videographer let me know. I'll give you the details. Plus I have the steel drum music without paying for the steel drum! And it's traditional wedding songs plus others! Your resort should help you out with witnesses if you need them but double check to make sure. I think our resort took pity on us and went above and beyond. Oh and we had a small wedding cake too that we cut! i don't think there are set rules just because it's only the 2 of you. I say do what you want and what works for you and have fun with it! You're still marrying the man of your dreams in a tropical paradise! Nothing can be better than that! Good luck and make sure you post some pics when you get back!!
  16. Hi Wendy! Your timing is perfect!! And thank you for the great review! I'm just going to re-ask the question that I asked earlier if that's ok, and it goes to a bunch of reviews that I read. It says that the a la carte restaurants don't have air conditioning. Did you find that? It just seems rather odd for a resort in Mexico not to have AC in the restaurants, but it's something that would definitely be an issue for us and the people travelling with us such that I would look elsewhere for a resort. thanks again!
  17. ladies - you will get there!!! lol good luck!
  18. I can definitely sympathize. We ended up just the 2 of us. It was tough to swallow, and we lost friends over it that we've never spoken to since our AHR, and I only invited them to be polite (not that it mattered). The drama just got too much and it nearly split us up because we were arguing about it constantly. My other half at one point said that if that was what getting married was all about he didn't want any part of it. In the end you have to do what is right for you! You two are the only 2 that matter in the whole deal, and if you decide that taking off by yourselves is what's right, then do it. It's hard because we always want everyone to be as happy for us as we are, and it just doesn't happen. Good luck!
  19. Congrats and welcome to the site! Good luck and happy planning!
  20. Wow! That's beautiful! Definitely can't wait to see more! Who was your photographer and where did you find them? lol
  21. I love Burlington! We lived there 4 years and as soon as my husband gets the golden handshake we're goin' back! No offense to anyone, but I hate Mississauga! We had our AHR at the Beaver and Bulldog at the The Waterfront Hotel, and our friends and family still talk about it!!
  22. I've yet to hear of anyone having any serious difficulties with that. Depending on your fabric, for the couple of hours it will be in a bag, I wouldn't be overly concerned as long as you can hang it up when you arrive where you're going. If you can get it into a bridesmaid's room or a parents room and get it sort of released from the bag that will help a lot, and yes - hanging it in a bathroom with the shower on hot will help to steam out any small wrinkles. My dress was chiffon and I bought a portable steamer and took it with me. It never even made it out of the box and we flew to jamaica, about 4 hours. The dress was fine. Good luck and happy planning!!
  23. Weclome to BDW and congrats on getting engaged! @@kmk2016 is absolutely right. A travel agent is your best place to start. They'll be able to listen to what you want, and what you need, and recommend places/locations that you can take a look at. They'll also be able to tell you who might have good deals for group room rates, or littel extras that might be added in. You don't say when you're thinking - next year? Later this year? 2016? That will make a big difference too as to how much info you'll get now. If you're too far ahead, you may only get limited details as regards room rates, etc. You also don't say if you're in the US or canada, as that will also make a difference. Travel packages are done differently in each place. If you want recommendations you'll definitely find them here. Obviously if you're in the US, the owners of this site will be one of your best bets - Wright Travel. You can contact them through this site. Good luck and happy planning!!
