  1. Switch immediately! If you're under a deposit deadline, don't wait! You don't want to lose spaces just because somebody didn't care enough about her clients to let them know she was leaving. Get in touch with the "replacement" and give her a piece of your mind, then tell her you need immediate help. Then I would enlist family members to help either with phone or email to get the word out. The fact that your agent has changed is a good excuse to gently remind people that they need to get their deposits in by calling or emailing and just saying "oh I know you don't have your deposit down yet, and we're really hoping you will be able to join us, but the agent we were using had an emergency and will be gone until past our deadline so we want to make sure you have the proper contact info. Do you have a pen and I'll give it to you" That nudges them a bit to get them thinking about it again. The thing is you're going to have people procrastinate no matter what. It's hard for people sometimes to think that a year from now we want you to use a week of your vacation to come to our wedding. They may be thinking about how that will affect their other plans for vacation, or if they have work deadlines, will they be able to get away. Plus, being after Xmas, will they have the money to be able to go. There are so many factors that people will think about. But definitely, first and foremost, get in touch witht he replacement agent. That's your most critical thing. Your deadline is only a couple of weeks away. Good luck!!
  2. This is a bit off topic, but just something odd. We have been to Cube, just once and will never ever go back. We were both horribly sick after about 4 days and couldn't wait to get back on the plane to come home. We know people that swear by Cuba and would never go anywhere else. We absolutely LOVE Mexico. We've been 5 times, never once had a single problem. We know people that swear there is no way, no how they would ever go to Mexico because they've heard all the horror stories of people getting sick. You just never know. We would never consider ever going to the Dominican Republic because there are just too many things we've heard but I used to commute on the train with a guy that had been going to the same resort in Punta Cana for 6 years. He said they were treated like royalty every year and never had a problem. With everything I'm hearing now about the mosquito virus down there, I still wouldn't think about going. But that's me personally. People will make their own fun. You will always have someone that will complain about something because you can't please everyone. You just have to roll with it and be prepared. That's when the tour rep if you have one at the resort will come in handy!!
  3. Any possibility you might be able to get access at work? Probably a bad example... lol but thought I would ask.
  4. soooo pretty! and it looks beautiful on you!! I sometimes wonder where the heck they get some of these models.....
  5. Wow - that sounds so hard to do!! I am the numero uno NOT diy capable person in the entire world!
  6. We got married not only at a resort we had never been to, but a country we had never been to! And we loved every bit of it - both the resort and Jamaica! It's definitely someplace I would recommend to anyone! The one difference I've found is that for what we want, photographers are more readily available and better priced in Mexico. Otherwise I would be doing our vow renewal back in Jamaica.
  7. Your website is great!! It has everything any of your guests will need!! I love your invites! They're absolutely great. Do you mind if I ask how you did them? It wasn't what I was thinking about at all, but I'm sort of getting curious about them. They could definitely be neutral and wouldn't have to be for a wedding. I could do something like that as our invite I think.
  8. I've just discovered it. I'm still playing around with it, but finding things that I like. I'll get around to figuring out how to put a board together.
  9. I've had it come up on the internet just with a search. If you type in Grand Sunset Princess images, a bunch of photos will come up and I've had one come up that's a map of the resort. As well if you just type in Grand Sunset Princess on the internet, there is a pretty good description there about the restaurants and what their speciality is.
  10. So have you actually joined? What did it cost? Do you do it online, or do you go to a meeting? That's the thing I don't think will work for me. I have a pretty stressful job with long hours so for me to try to be anywhere at a specific time during the week is almost impossible. Plus I already get up early enough in the morning so I'm not adding anything more to my mornings. I thought maybe we could do a lunch time thing at work. They at it at the law firm where I used to work and I'm kind of sorry I didn't investigate it then, but my hours (again) were goofy and I couldn't get it to fit with my schedule.
  11. Congrats and welcome to BDW! Joyce is absolutely right!! There is a virtual ton of info here on GSP. Definitely check out the resort reviews and see what other brides have experienced with the resort, then just dig through the multiple forums. Some will go back a couple of years, some are very current but take some time to read. It will give you a good understanding of what to expect. Everyone here is more than willing to help with tips and advice! Good luck and happy planning!
  12. I've looked at it many times and just haven't followed through. I have asked here at work if we could start a weight watchers at work deal since I'm sure I'm not the only one interested, but right now I need to wait until the fall. I'm working at just a little bit of weight before a hospital stay in september and I know some will come off then and through the recovery. I figure at that point I will push the weight watchers so that what comes off, stays off!!! I would also be interested in hearing from anyone else that would recommend WW. I've heard so many success stories but I would really like to know what it's all about. Are there diets to follow? Is it regular food? I know there are points involved, but how does that work?
  13. That is just too adorable!!! Are you willing to share the vendor? it sounds like he is definitely worth holding onto!! Very cute!
  14. You'll find a ton of DIY brides here!! Best thing is to go to the forums and just take a look through. Believe me when I say there are really a whole lot of ideas depending on what you're looking for!! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/74-diy-forum-passport-invitation-template-boarding-pass-invitation-templates-and-more/ Go nuts and have fun!!! Happly planning!!
  15. Just an FYI for some ladies - canadian packages are done differently than in the US. I asked Wright about this and while they can look at canadian travel packages, it's out of their norm and not somethng they do on a regular basis. I right away asked Wendy if she could help us out from a US departure point and I couldn't believe the cost difference. There wasn't even any point in looking at it further. For canadian brides, it would seem that you do need to work with a canadian agent. Obviously one that does DW would be the best all around as they can work with the charter companies (Sunwing, Transat, Westjet, etc.) and see what they can get you for your package rate. A good one with experience will have that negotiating power. Good luck and happy planning!
  16. I just noticed your wedding date will be the same as mine! We got married in Jamaica October 20 2011! Hope you had a fabulous wedding and hoping that you'll post pics here!! Congrats!!!
  17. http://www.weddinglinensdirect.com/9xsapa.html I found these. Don't know if you want organza or satin.... just keep googling on the internet. I have other sites too that I'll add. There is a ribbon site that I have that I'll look and see what colours are there.
  18. Wow. I remember being there.... I can't believe its been as long as it has! (wait. how long has it been?) It has to be more than 3 years now. I don't even know how many posts I have! I know it seems so long to get there but sooner or later, you do....
  19. Well done! You have so many great pics of the two of you! And good travel information too! Great job!
  20. I know it's a long haul, but have you tried out of Calgary for pricing? The drive is doable and it might be worth the saving.
  21. Congrats and welcome to BDW! You will, as others have said, find tons of information and tips and advice here, and everyone is more than willing to share! i would highly recommend that you spend some time reading. There are forums I know for Gran Caribe Real that you should go through. I would wager that whatever you're asking, someone already has and you will find the answer posted here. Everyone runs into the same or similar issues. The same with your vendors - photographers, etc. You will need to find out your resort's policies on outside vendors and what their fees are if any. Some resorts will charge as much as $800 to have someone onto their property so check things out first so that if there are any fees, they don't come as a surprise to you. There are many wonderful, talented photographers in the Cancun - Playa del Carmen corridor so research is your best friend. Read the reviews here to see what past brides have said. Check their websites. they all have different styles so you will need to see what appeals to you. Then figure out what you want and what your budget is then start getting in touch with them to see what their availability might be. Some won't book 2 years in advance, others will. Lots to do to keep you busy but will also help as you mentioned to keep you organized. Good luck and happy planning!
  22. I voted for the long one too. But that's just what I'm partial too. I love long dresses for weddings, whether on the beach or not. I agree that you may have an issue with colour. The best thing to do is talk to your photographer is you have one. Let them help you with what will work and what won't. There was an article on here at one point about colours that was contributed by a photographer. Maybe dig around the site and see if you find it.
  23. I have no idea what they charge but you could try Bicoastal Images. Their prices seem to be reasonable compared to others. They are on the vendor list here as well.
