  1. I can promise you one thing. Once you start down that "path" or aisle or whatever your resort has, you will see your guy at the end and focus only on him. You'll have a hard time remembering it afterwards, or who sat where! The piece of advice I can give is CHILL!!! lol And enjoy it!!! A destination wedding is nothing as complicated as a fancy do at home. It's much more relaxed and informal. Remember, you're either on a beach or very close ti one. You can't make that very formal!! Think about some old guy with a beer belly and a speedo as you're walking down the aisle, pray to god he isn't watching you and laugh. It will be over with before you even realize and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. I remember someone that was on this site planning her wedding at the same time I was. Her new husband got really ill right before their wedding and just barely made it through on teh day of. He actually had to step outside of their reception area and throw up into a plant pot!!! Then there was another girl I think a couple of months either before or after we got married (can't remember which) but she had the same photographer that we had. Well they were doing their pictures after the ceremony, which was right at the beach and he lost his wedding ring!!! It was literally a half hour old on his finger and it ended up in the water and they couldn't find it! But if you don't laugh about things like that, then you'll drive yourself crazy! And life is just too short for that. I've found that out the hard way over the last year and a half.
  2. Oh no! That's really a shame that you changed your date! Hurrican season doesn't start until June, and it's actually quite rare for them to hit that early in the season. The peak time is generally August and September with sometimes going into early to mid-October. Of course there can be storms in July but again, they aren't that frequent. As long as you know in advance and are prepared for the fact that it's going to be very hot! Then at least you'll be able to manage. The good thing is last year was about the quietest hurricane season in about 50 years, and they're predicting that this year will be the same. As long as we have an El Nino then it cuts the hurricanes in the Atlantic due to wind shear. So keep fingers crossed!! And @@kcole123 is right. The resorts are well prepared to deal with them if one does come along. Depending on how much notice there is, which usually they have a pretty good idea, if it's too close to your wedding the airlines just won't go. They'll cancel flights but I've heard where they allow you to rebook with no penalties and so on. All you can do is go with it! Hey - it would give you a wedding to remember!! lol Something to tell the grandchildren!! It will all be fine.
  3. Where did you manage to find a dress for $1200 in Canada? My big plan is to go to the US when it comes time for me to find something only because the prices here are so outrageous!!! Please share!!!!! lol
  4. Wow - you are so on it!! I absolutely love your ideas!!! And your colours are so pretty! I'm short too, but have lousy knees so I doubt heels will be much of an option for me, but I think the idea of glitter is fab! I wore sandal heels when we got married but I lasted about an hour, then they had to go! lol
  5. That's so pretty!! Who is the designer? Do you have your photographer yet? I would strongly recommend talking with them as far as what they envision. They're the best ones to know how they do their photographs. I know this sucks but the thing that keeps going through my mind is the bride from Calgary that was swept away in a rip tide doing a TTD session, only a year or two ago. Andit was in shallow water! They said it was because her dress was so billowy that when it got wet it was too much weight for her to fight against the rip tide. So I would definitely ask your photographer a lot of questions! Urging all brides to be safe even while you're having fun!!!
  6. Wow Greece! How wonderful! It's on my bucket list of places to visit. I would love to go there! I'm sure the wedding will be fabulous!!
  7. I think it's worth having your travel agent look into it for you and block rooms. You're in the US so it works a little differently for you than it does here for canadian travellers. Here it's the tour operators that do the blocks and bank on them being able to sell them all so the risk of running out of rooms isn't quite as high as it is in the US. We can still have resorts not available, just maybe not as quickly. Have you tried talking to Wright Travel that own this site? They're destination wedding specialists so would be great to help you out with availablility for other resorts. Plus they've won awards and have some "pull" with some of the resort chains just because of the volume of business they do. Good luck!!
  8. The other thing you can do is google the name of your resort and "wedding images" and it will bring up a ton of all different pictures that you can look at. So if you want Azul Beach then google "azul beach wedding images" and it will bring up dozens of photos for you to look at.
  9. Congrats and welcome to the site! I am a past October Jamaica bride! We were married October 20, 2011 at Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay. Jamaica is a beautiful place to get married and October was wonderful weather for us! You will find lots of tips and advice here and brides past and present are more than willing to share information. We were only 2 so I'm afraid I can't be much help for decorations or favours. I used Tai Flora for my flowers and I just allowed the resort to decorate the wedding gazebo for us. We opted for the gazebo instead of the beach. I would definitely search the forums for the DIY items and see what past brides have done for favours. There are tons of ideas. You should also read the resort reviews and see what past brides have done at the resort where you're getting married, plus find the forums as well for current brides and you will be able to share ideas and information. Good luck and happy planning!!
  10. There isn't anything to "legalize". Your marriage is legal, and the certificate you receive with the seal is your legal marriage certificate. The only thing you might have to do is if it's in spanish, you may need to take it somewhere, like an embassy, to have it translated and sealed. It's one of the reasons we got married in Jamaica. Depending on what province you're in I would contact the Registrar where you do your name change and ask them if they require it to be translated. You're not the first and won't be the last Mexican bride so they must have a process in place to help out everyone that gets married out of the country. On the other hand, they may be asking too much of our government! Nothing is ever as simple as we think it should be!! Good luck!
  11. That's my wedding date, but 2011! It's a great time of year in the Caribbean! We were married in Jamaica on Oct 20th, arrived home on the 22nd and had our AHR 2 weeks later on Nov 5th! I'm really glad we did it all close together.
  12. Oh my gosh - you're back already? Very glad the picture taking went well. You so have to make sure we get to see some!! Isnt' Playa just the best? I love it!! Especially the bars...... I've had a couple of interesting experiences in a couple of them... that involve mexican wrestlers, tequila and I'm not sure I remember what else!!! lol
  13. That's funny! I had an iphone too, for 3 years. Hated every second of it! I just upgraded to the Samsung S4. LUVIN IT!!!!!
  14. I agree about not having a card box for your DW. I think the people that attend, if they are still giving a gift, will either make sure it gets to you before you leave, or they will take care of it once home. As for the AHR, we had a card box. We were just the 2 of us for our wedding so there wasn't anyone at the AHR that attended the DW. From what I understand, everyone looked for the box as soon as they entered the room.
  15. Congrats and welcome to the site. I don't know anything about the DR but I know there are a lot of brides here that have booked their wedding for that location. Definitely search the resort reviews section and the forums and do some reading. Past and present brides are more than willing to share tips and advice and reviews of resorts from brides that have been to a location is as good a way as any to check out resorts. Good luck and happy planning!
  16. What about doing that and telling them you're from the other end of the country, so can't buy your dress in vancouver but if you settle on one to purchase you want to know what it is. Sometimes they'll write down on a little card for you what the dress style is. I've had that done for me.
  17. Congrats and welcome to the site! I would highly recommend searching through the resort reviews and the forums for the resort you're asking about. I'm sure there will be information that pops up. Everyone here is more than willing to share tips and advice, but definitely reading will be the best way to find what you're looking for. Good luck and happy planning!
  18. Wow really?? What purpose does that serve? That's the kind of place I would complain to the better business bureau!
  19. It should only depend on how long it takes to get a passport. Don't know for the US how long it takes, but in canada as long as you submit the proper documentation, they just issue you a passport in your new name, usually within a couple of weeks. of course there are times of the year when it takes longer due to higher volumes but generally you can get a new passport within about 2 to 3 weeks. The main thing will be finding out what the documentation is that's required by the passport people. We were married in Jamaica. All we received while we were there was a photocopy of the register showing the date we were married. Our actual marriage certificate with a seal didn't come for a couple of months afterwards. It's on paper that looks like paper that money is made from. From what I was told, the photocopy was only to show you had been married. Anything that required legal documents had to wait until you received your actual marriage certificate. Our resort sent us two originals, which was nice of them since we didn't have to pay extra. We have put one into a security box, just in case. I didn't change my name so I didn't need to worry about documents, but we have the other original at home in case we needed it for spouse life insurance or health insurance benefits. No problems so far.
  20. Oh definitely if you're interested, please go ahead! I just found pics on the internet of what to do with them. It's cute, but not what I was thinking.
  21. I'm happy that you're all feeling motivated! I know it's healthy and that's the way we should all be! Right? Easier said than done, huh? Yeah. I agree. My husband bought me a bicycle for my birthday a couple of weeks ago because I asked for one. Now I'm trying to convince him to get one too. You know monkey see monkey do? Well.... it's not working! lol I swear he's more stubborn than I am sometimes and believe me, that's saying something! But cycling gently is something that is allowed for my knees, which get injected every 4 months so I'm going to do what I can this summer, hope for the best after surgery, then hopefully next spring again get back to it. Nobody can ask of you more than you can give ladies. Do what works for you and like me, hope for the best! Good luck to all of us!!
  22. I love that! It's so pretty! I found one that I like too. The sizing makes me a little unsure though. http://www.morilee.com/bridals/julietta/3112 This one is pretty too!! They're both gorgeous!
  23. Oh that's so pretty!! I love the sparkles! Oh yours is so pretty too!! I love the lace!! Who's the designer?? What's wrong with the one you're wearing? I really like it!!
