  1. I'm sure Wright will be able to help you out! I've never heard of any ladies here in the 4+ odd years that I've been here say that they only had 30 days for their guests to book their rooms. But I'm not the TA so there may be some other detail that's relevant. I would absolutely not make any decisions until you hear from Wright! TA Wendy stops by here with comments all the time and she is just a fountain of great information!!! Good luck!!
  2. By the way, I checked out the tumblers in Dollartree this past weekend while in the US, and they would work just fine. The one I was in was quite small and they didn't have much left. A couple of red and a bunch of orange and that was it. I wasn't looking so didn't ask a clerk about more. I'm going to wait until next year before I worry about those things but I thought I would take a look at Dollartree just to see. They will definitely fit the bill!! I've looked at Davet and they have some super designs. I love their stuff, and the prices are absolutely very reasonable!
  3. Well said @Mandiesue Sometimes parents are what they are, and as I said, older people can be very set in their ways. Mental illness may have absolutely nothing in the world whatsoever to do with it. I wish I had known what I know now 30 years ago. We want everyone to be totally supportive and completely happy for us on what is definitely one of the biggest steps you'll ever take in your life. But it just doesn't happen. Yes - it's painful. My in laws decided they didn't want to go to Jamaica with us for our wedding when everyone else cancelled and I was totally ticked off. They were worried about the cost when the group rate was cancelled, but we ended up paying $300 less each with our booking so to me, no excuses. But it is what it is ladies. You can't change it. Our natural need to find reasons and fix things isn't always satisfied. Sometimes there is no reason and no fix. You do what you can and move on. In the end, it's the two of you that count, and marrying each other in a wonderful tropical place, not matter who is there and who isn't.
  4. Congrats and welcome! I will agree definitely with @@kmk2016 and say get help from a travel agent. The owners of this site - Wright Travel specialize in destination weddings. They have helped thousands of brides and the administrator of the site Tammy - she's a Dreams Cabo bride so the experience is there!! I would absolutely contact them and tell them what you want and I know they'll be able to help you out!! Here is the contact form: http://www.wrighttravelagency.com/inquiry/index.html?t202id=9999&c1=bdw-sidebar As well, check out the resort reviews here and see what past brides have said about their resort experience. You'll need to think about outside photographers too, along with other outside vendors if that's the route you want to go. Some resorts charge a very high fee for using outside vendors so keep that in mind. Good luck and happy planning.
  5. October is a beautiful time in Jamaica for a wedding! We got married October 20th, almost exactly our 10 year anniversary and loved it! Goodluck and happy planning!
  6. I reached out to them more than 3 years ago and got nowhere, and wasn't impressed at all with their service. For the ladies from the US - @Sabes44 @@Tatimrivera - can I ask why you haven't reached out to the owners of this site? Wright Travel are DW specialists and have tons of experience with resorts and weddings as well as having won awards for their service. They also can help you with group booking rewards that could be available through the resort that you choose. I know there is a resort chain that was offering a $1500 credit that you could use towards private events like a welcome dinner. I would highly recommend at least talking to them before you commit to someplace or someone else, just to see what they can do for you. Oh yes, and you don't have to pay anything to them up front for their service!!
  7. We got married in Jamaica in October (20th) and never even saw a mosquito, let alone getting bitten! I had heard about them in October in Cuba, and if I remember we took bug spray, but never even took it out of the suitcase!
  8. There have been a couple of florists used in RM that ladies have recommended. Check out the vendor reviews. I know one is Maya Floral but can't think of the other one(s) off the top of my head. The reviews will tell you whether or not they had good service or not, and whether the prices were reasonable. Good luck!
  9. I looked at the prices on the Michaels site and if you're looking at that much money, I would say check out discountmugs.com I think their prices are better and if you're over a certain quantity, I think the set up fee is either reduced or waived. Worth looking into.
  10. Congrats and welcome! This site will be a huge help to you! Definitely read through the different forums. Good luck and happy planning!
  11. It sounds to me like he is looking for attention. If he always has to be convinced to actually get there, but does have a good time one he is, it sounds to me like he wants everyone to reassure him that they want him there, or the attention from everyone trying to convince him. Older people can be quite set in their ways. My MIL is sort of like that. Trying to get her out of the house sometimes is like pulling teeth! Yes - she's a home body but once you convince her to get somewhere, she enjoys it. She doesn't even do her shopping. She lets my FIL do it. She likes to just stay at home. And that's what she says too - she just doesn't "feel" like going. Just think how it would feel to you if a whole lot of people were all over you trying to get you to go somewhere. Wouldn't you feel special? Sounds to me like your FFIL enjoys the chase of getting him to go somewhere. But hey - if that's what it takes, go for it. If none of the attention has been focussed around him during all the planning, that may be why he up and decided he didn't want to go. I would check with your airline. If you absolutely can't get him to go, sometimes if you have to cancel a ticket it can be used for future travel. May be worth looking into. Good luck!
  12. I agree with @@kmk2016. I would do two separate ones and mail them that way. It will definitely be much cleaner and nicer looking. I speak both languages so I know the difficulty you're facing. I don't know how fancy you want your invites, but you could always look at Vistaprint to see if they have something that would work for you. That way you could do the same design, but just change your text between the english and french. Plus they always have sales on for invites. Good luck!
  13. When you say locations in PDC - what are you thinking about? There are quite a few resorts very close to Playa but the Gran Porto Real does the same as Gran Caribe and does a chapel package. The chapel is, I think, on 5th Avenue in Playa. Or there are other private sites like Grand Coral beach club or Blue Venado. Are you looking specifically for churches/chapels? There are quite a few in PDC.
  14. You could try searching the vendor reviews and just see if anyone has commented on them.
  15. I'd be interested in the answer to that too! I keep looking at the online program and wondering if it's worth it..... I'm tackling it on my own again. We have a wedding to go to on Aug 3rd, and I would love to be down at least 5 lbs by then, if not a tiny bit more.
  16. No not yet. I have it narrowed down though..... to about 12!! lol I go into the hospital on Sept 10th (we got the date at last) so I want to see how much weight I lose this time (last time was 19 lbs but it all came back on due to drugs I was taking), and I'm hoping by early December to start trying stuff on and see how it looks. I'm torn between 2 styles. I LOVE the key hole back, and I love the ruffled bottom but I may be too old now for the ruffled bottom to look nice on. I know I want drama. My wedding dress was so simple I want hubby's jaw to drop when I start walking towards him. Plus I want the dress to reflect the fact that as much as some days it doesn't feel like it, I really am happy to be alive, even more so if the next surgery goes well and I don't have to have any more in the spring!! So if there is somewhere to get a good deal on a dress, I'm in for sure!!! lol
  17. Congrats and welcome! You'll find a wealth of information here that should help you make a decison, and you'll find past and present brides are more than willing to share! Do you have a travel agent yet? I see you're in the US. The owners of this site - Wright Travel are destination wedding specialists and have tons of experience with the various resort chains. They'll have information on special perks that might be available to groups at specific resorts as well, and can advise you on all the aspects of planning your wedding! I would highly recommend that you read some of the resort reviews and see what past brides have said about their experience with different resorts. That may help you narrow it down a little. Good luck and happy planning!
  18. Wow! How come I haven't heard of that site?? Don't think I like snarky... lol But I would definitely be curious about the reviews so might do some lurking.... You're right about thsi site. I think this is one of the best sites I've ever been on! So now I'll have to take a look at this dress line.... I better not find something I fall in love with.... lol Actually, strangely enough Vera Wang is not a line that I've found much that does it for me. I find she's a bit on the funky side for somebody my age. Great for young people like you ladies. I would love to have the nerve to order one of the dresses that I love from one of these sites and just see how it turns out...... I have been giving it a lot of thought.... maybe in the fall when I'm stuck at home I'll look into it more.
  19. Just curious.... when is your wedding, and would you be willing to do a review of the resort afterwards? I have a list of 3 that I'm looking at. I want to be really close to Playa and GPR is one of the ones I'm looking at. The reviews of the beach for the resort are a bit worrisome so I would love to hear your thoughts on the resort after your wedding!
  20. Wow - they actually let you book that far out? I'm getting worried about booking my off site now. Think I'll check with the planner again......
  21. What's this????? What is weddingbee??? I know about Jasmine's. I've read their site and actually found 2 of the dresses that I've been ogling online. I was sort of trying to wait and see if someone had good success with them making a dress that's got a lot of details. What are Gemmas???? Sorry - it's called old (with some stupidity thrown in!)
  22. Oh spill please!! I didn't know Secrets was opening a new resort!! Details! We need details!! Where are you travelling from for your group rate? US or Canadian? When does it open???
  23. OMG!! $4500 for a Maggie Sottero??????? Darn. I'm in BIG trouble!!! If hers are that expensive, I'm looking at a couple of hers, plus Mori Lee and a few David Tutera for Mon Cheri, which I absolutely am in LOVE with!!!!! I want colour. I don't want whtie because it's a renewal. Ivory is ok. But I would rather have a light gold or champagne, or a blush pink or an ice blue. David Tutera has some fabulous ones but I'm scared to death what they're going to cost!!!!!!!
