Chiffon Everywhere?!?
acw271011 replied to Kerrierf's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Unfortunately that seems to be the only thing I've found that is relatively cool. If you think about it all the others are just too heavy and warm - the satins and taffeta. I've seen some brocade and it's really heavy. You want something that's going to breathe in the heat and will keep your wedding party comfortable. -
worried about low attendance for our wedding
acw271011 replied to BethandBill's topic in Brides Roll Call
That's the best attitude you can have! I've said it before a number of times on this site. It is what it is. There isn't anything you can do about it. You need to just roll with it and move forward. We had everyone think that they were going to change our minds if most backed out and that we would switch to doing a wedding here at home instead, just to save them money and we didn't even have a big group to begin with. We even lost the best man and maid of honour and they got married at a destination wedding!! We had everyone in the beginning that was going and everyone was looking forward to it, but as soon as a few backed out, then the rest were worred that if we lost the group rate they would have to pay more. We had the last laugh in the end because we booked just about 2 months ahead and saved $300 each off the cost of what the group rate was. I don't know yet if we get to renew our vows next year what will happen and if we'll have anyone go with us from the ones that are saying yes now. But at this point I really don't care. If it happens that we celebrate on our own, then so be it. -
Congrats and welcome! Jamaica is a beautiful place to get married! I was married in October and the weather was fantastic without the heavy humidity of the summer months. There are a lot of Jamaica brides here, both past and present so i know there will lots of advice and tips to go around! Good luck and happy planning!

Cost For Photographer In Cancun?
acw271011 replied to shelikespink's topic in Destination Wedding Vendors
And on top of that, they all work different numbers of hours for the prices they charge. So for the amount of time you want - 6 to 8 hours - you're probably going to be looking at the higher end of the price range that @@kmk2016 mentioned. Definitely start looking through the photographers and emailing them for what their price structure is. keep in mind as well that they can book up quickly so be sure to give yourself lots of time. -

Oh gee. I thought I was pretty good with technology, but I definitely have no clue on this. I think I've pinned stuff - I'm not entirely sure but how do I know, and how do I follow someone? Now I'm dying to see what you guys have! I can't here at work - all those sites are blocked for us, but tonight....... if someone can tell me how! lol -

@@kmk2016 is absolutely right! When we were booking for our wedding in Jamaica, we were told that April and May are the busiest months of the year for resort weddings. I would guess that Mexico is probably the same, and yes exactly for the reasons you said. I was quite surprised when I was looking for a trip earlier in the year just for a vacation that the rates for May are higher than I was expecting! Definitely try to get some details sorted as soon as you can. You may not be able to actually book a resort until you find one with your date open, or be prepared to be flexible with your date. Good luck!

Congrats and welcome to the site! Wow - that's a tough one. I'm sure there will be someone here that knows something about doing an irish wedding, but I'm sorry I won't be of any help. Definitely try looking through the reviews and see if there is any info that might help. Good luck and happy planning!

Hi. Don't know if it's any reassurance or not, but I had my little bit of flowers done by Tai for my wedding 3 years ago and I had no problems with them. The pricing was excellent and they turned out gorgeous. I would talk to Tai and just tell them that the quotes from Jan's are lower and see what they say. It depends on what you're having done because I know for a fact, the forum that was happening when I got married, some ladies found Jan's was actually more expensive than Tai. Just be sure you're comparing apples to apples and that you are actually getting the exact same thing. Good luck!

Did anyone use a makeup artist in Jamaica?
acw271011 replied to msmoodyr's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I've heard nothing but fabulous reviews of Rashel. Everyone I've ever seen post here that used her absolutely loved her!! -
I actually spoke to a TA earlier this week - the one all the canadian ladies are recommending actually (laurielee.ca) and she told me that the Royal is going to be changing from being a Real Resort but she was emailing her Rep to try to find out what it's changing to. In the meantime she said she couldn't even get it to come up to book for the fall of this year. Don't know what it means but she said she would email me and let me know what she was able to find out. It's a good sign that you're going back again. That's a good reflection on the treatment by the resort! How do you find the beach there?

Wow @@kcole123! Kristy - that's great!!! I'm down a whole 3.5 lbs. woohoo! It has been a struggle. Hubs is down... get this - 22 lbs. lmao I hate him!! Why is it so much easier for men????? We've been at it for the same amount of time, and he doesn't even exercise!! It's so not fair! lol But now I'm getting serious. I even turned down blueberries and ice cream!! You have no idea what that did to me!! lol I did have a few of the blueberries though. My problem is that my health issues and surgery have been stomach related so there are a lot of things I can't eat, which makes it harder. I love pineapple but can't eat it. Hubby has done really well with oranges but I can't have them. Grapes too don't go well. Veggies included. I can do simple things but of course the simple things that aren't as healthy. I'm loving the salads we're having for dinner at night, but hubby adds hot peppers to his, which of course helps to get your metabolism going. I can't have the spicy stuff. Well - we just hang in there and keep at it. Right? One way or another I'm going to get into a dress for next year that is 2 sizes smaller than what I'm wearing now. (lol I hope!)

Congrats and welcome to BDW! You will definitely find all the tips and advice here that will help you on your planning journey. Firstly I would strongly recommend finding a travel agent! There are a few here that brides in canada recommend so you can ask, or if you know one already, get connected with them. If you don't know where you want to go, start looking around on the internet at travel sites and read about all the different resorts, just to get an idea. There are a ton! Set some parameters - big, small, how many guests, kids or no kids, close to a city, or a quieter location? Get a couple of resorts in mind then sit down with the travel agent. They will help you with more details on whether any of those resorts will work with what you're looking for, and they may also be able to get you preliminary pricing, or at least an idea of what it will cost. You're very early in the game so pricing may not be available for some time yet. Generally about a year out will be your most accurate. Some agents will get pricing a bit further out than a year. A few words of warning. I'm assuming by early you mean January or February, which is winter time. A peak travel time for sun destinations so your pricing will be higher. As well, resorts sell out more quickly at that time of the year. You need to think about a budget. Get one in mind or numbers to work with. Do you want an outside photographer? A videographer? What does the resort charge for outside vendors? Some of them have vendor fees of upwards of $800 or $1000, which will likely be over and above your costs. Soem photographers I've heard will help out with the resort vendor fee, but definitely not all. Do you want to be married right on the beach? Or away from the beach? Your colours, what kind of flowers. Do you want to pay the resort prices, or look for off site vendors for that? Again, it could incur an additional cost. Be prepared to be a little bit flexible in the beginning until you have details worked out in terms of your resort and your date. As well, as much as you think everybody that you know and love is going to be thrilled to attend your wedding, they won't and most brides here have seen their guest numbers be lower than originally anticipated. For various reasons, some people just will not be able to travel, or won't want to travel. It's nothing personal so as much as it will be disappointing, the important thing to remember as you go through your planning is that you're marrying your best friend in a beautiful tropical location and that's what counts! Finally, everyone here is wonderfully supportive and very ready and willing to pass on what they've learned, as well as suggestions and tips that will help you out. Check out the resort reviews here and see what past brides have said about their experiences. Same with the vendor reviews. And read. Read as much as you can on this site. Yes - you need to reach 150 posts before you'll be able to see attachments. Find forums that interest you and post comments. You'll get there quicker than you think! Good luck and happy planning!

I'm just going to add one thing here. The photographers in both Jamaica and Mexico are very experienced with wedding groups, and they know how to move you along if they want to start getting photos. Especially if you're on a 4pm ceremony time, and you want sunset photos (depending on time of year) they know what kind of timing they need. So if they want you to get moving to do pictures, they will get you moving. if you're set for a cocktail hour, the WCs at the resorts are also good about getting people moving and getting them to where they want them to be. It isn't like a wedding back home where you hang around outside the church for an hour before you can get away. This is their business so if you have a 6:30 pm dinner from a 4 pm ceremony, you will get moved along! They are trained at keeping you to your schedule only because they don't generally allow events to run on past their time slot.

And The Winner Is...royalton White Sands!
acw271011 replied to Soon2beMrsJ's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
What's quite funny about this is that I was married at Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica resort in October 2011. Chandlyn was the WC at that resort then and her assistant was Donnalee White. We were just the two of us so Chandlyn has signed my marriage licence along with the assistant, and the pdf that I received that had all the bouquets and bouts and so on, looks almost exactly the same as what was sent from the GBPJ. Guess it really is a small world!!- 68 replies

I know people that did both - got married and honeymooned in St Lucia. I want to say Windjammer maybe? Does that sound right? I know their pics are gorgeous because it looks like the wedding site was up on a bit of a hill, and you can see out over the water. Really nice. Plus in the pics, the accommodations look really nice too.

Absolutely book as soon as you know who you want to use! Just look at all the different brides here, then think about all the ones that aren't here!! And I agree with everyone else - May is a really busy month for RM weddings!! Don't wait! It locks your date for you, and your pricing too!
