acw271011 replied to Mrsktobe's topic in Just venting or funnies
Boy - there are some days when I am soooooo happy I don't have to go through all of this stuff..... we're just renewing our vows. lol sorry - not being unsympathetic. I just feel for all the young ladies on here..... sometimes there are advantages to getting old.... uuummm older. I meant older..... -
@@Lia33 Congrats and welcome to the site. You will definitely find a ton of information here that will help you along on your planning journey! Plan on doing some reading around the site. That will be one of the best ways to see what is available here. I see you're in New York. Do you have a travel agent yet? That is definitely one of the first moves to start trying to figure out what you want in a resort. I would highly recommend Wright Travel that own this site. They are destination wedding specialists and have great relationships with several resort chains. Here is some info on them, along with some contact details. Your TA will become one of your best friends as you plan you wedding so a good working relationship will be important. I agree with @kmk2016 It is up to the person hosting your shower to do the inviting. Unless they have specifically asked about attending, or hinted at it, I don't think it's proper if they aren't invited to your wedding. I can't see that their feelings would be hurt this soon after starting the job.

Please Help! Family Being Awful About Wanting A Mexico D/w.
acw271011 replied to Sophiaone95's topic in Newbies!!
Ouch. Not a happy situation for anyone. The first thing is that this is supposed to be a happy time for you and your fiance. As well, it's your wedding and your day. It's so difficult when family put pressure on couples, and it's just unfair. Our situation nearly split us up after nearly 10 years together so I can definitely sympathize. For us it was my hubby that put his foot down and said enough was enough. We wanted to get married in Jamaica and that's exactly what we were going to do, and everyone else be damned. They were going to miss out on an awesome holiday. So we did. Just the two of us. No witnesses. Nothing. The wedding coordinators signed our marriage licence. I would be lying if I said I wasn't hurt. I was. It was the second time around for us though and we're a lot older than most of the ladies on this site. In the end it was "what is really important to us?" It was to get married on a beautiful tropical island and that's what we got. I feel for the younger people here that are getting grief from their families. I've said it before and I'll say it again. We want everyone to be as happy for us as we are, and especially with the people that we love, we don't understand why they aren't. I think they are, but when it comes to the planning for a DW, there are a lot of factors to consider. And it's other peoples' lives that are involved as well. Whether it's finances, or kids or time off work, or a mix of all three. There are families that just don't want to go along with the idea of a destination wedding. I know sometimes the news that comes out of Mexico isn't always reassuring, and for some people that can be quite alarming. From personal experience i will say after 5 trips to Mexico we have never, ever had a single issue in any way shape or form and like you, we absolutely love Mexico. You have some decisions ahead of you for sure. What about taking off to Mexico just the two of you, then having a reception at home? Maybe something to think about. In the end though, it will be what is most important to the both of you. Do you have a church minister that the two of you can sit down with that knows you? Might be some insight there that will help. Whatever you decide, try not to let all of this ruin what is meant to be a happy time in your lives. Support each other. Guaranteed that if you get through it all, as a couple you will come out stronger on the other side! Good luck! -
I would be a little put out by it. It's different if invitees are, as you said, just adding family members to the vacation so that they get time together but to go ahead and take advantage because you have a (probably) cheaper group rate? Nope. That just doesn't sit well with me, particularly without asking in advance. If the couple book, that's different. Then have the other people wait until the very last cutoff date for your guests to book, and then ask if you have empty spots left. To just invite the rest of the family on your rate without even a by your leave is just rude.

Fall 2015 Rates?
acw271011 replied to Maggietron's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
I talked to a travel agent last week - one of the ones recommended on this site - and she said it depends on the supplier and the resort. I was looking for October next year and she said it was still too early for the ones I was looking for. If you have a travel agent, talk to them. They're the best ones to tell you if they can get you rates now for fall next year or not. Good luck! -
Beach Towels For Party Gifts
acw271011 replied to Lalachka's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I know there was a post on here about beach towels before - just trying to remember the site that made them. The one thing I do remember is that they were expensive, and it was in the US as well. I see you're in Toronto so be very careful about shipping costs. It's the one thing that really kills us canadians is the shipping..... Maybe try using the search at the top and see if anything comes up on beach towels. -
Anyone Else Overwhelmed With Cost?
acw271011 replied to kcole123's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
The idea that we wanted a simple, easy to plan wedding in paradise sort of gets lost in the shuffle of all these beautiful ideas. I read through some of the things here and I'm all gung ho to do some of them. But we'll be lucky if we have 6 people with us so for me, I look at them but they just aren't practical. It's the same with the wedding packages at a resort. Why would I pay for a light up dance floor for 6 people? I absolutely LOVE the idea, but again, it's just not practical. And it isn't our wedding. We're already married. I really would rather have a more intimate set up. Paying for one of the wedding packages and being boxed into a 1 hour semi private in a resort restaurant again just doesn't do it for me for a group of about 6. We would look really silly. So I've just remade some of the plans. Think about what is really important to you and how many people you're going to have. Plus, who those people actually are. Are they people that will expect things to be over the top, or are they people that you know will be just as happy with simple things. Look at your priorities and where you know you really do need to spend money, and where you know you really don't need to. Make a pros and cons list if you have to, or a wants and needs list. It might help you put things in perspective and really work with the budget that you've set for yourself. -
@Meandhim Ok so first - what's your preference for your hair? What month have you decided on for your wedding? How hot will it be? Are you comfortable with your hair up? Have you tried any veils on yet to see how they look? Just remember - there are really no rules. it's what you're comfortable with. Did you try any veils with your dress when you bought it? I love your dress, and just my personal opinion, I wouldn't want to change out of it. I think it looks beautiful on you. You could always wear your short dress if you're having any welcome events, or a rehearsal event. Even if you decide to change for your reception, I would keep your shoes because I think they're adorable!! i would try to dress up the short dress a little just to make it a bit more sophisticated. Have you checked out Davids for belts/sashes? They tend to be a bit better priced. Definitely I think get rid of the bow. It does make it look a bit girly. Sparkle will help to dress it up as well. It is still your wedding, so you still want to shine!!

I get excellent deals from them all the time. Best thing would be to sign up. Then you'll get all the sales as soon as they come out sent directly to your email. They always have sales on. I think I get emails at least once a week, sometimes more often than that!!

Online Money Registry
acw271011 replied to Make2dayAmazing's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Depending on where you are, there is always Paypal. I know I've seen something on there about sending money as a gift but I've never used it. As well, if you're in canada, we use an interac money transfer for flipping money back and forth with our kids, especially when my step daughter was in college. She was always out of money!! I'm sure there are other ladies here that will have heard of other ways. Good luck! -

Congrats and welcome! You've come to the right placeif you're looking for advice! There is a ton of information here that will help you through your planning process. Do you have a travel agent yet? You don't say if you're in the US or canada. The travel arrangements are done a little differently in each country. Find an agent you trust and get along with. They will become one of your best friends over the next few months. You have your resort so that's the biggest hurdle. Figure out a budget and then start looking through the resort's website and look at packages and see what will work for you. Definitely read through this site! Search out forums for your resort and consult the vendor reviews as well. There are reviews for photographers and so on that will help you put your planning together. Good luck!! -
Need Help! Riu Montego Bay Photography Package?
acw271011 replied to Lala052206's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Congrats and welcome to BDW! I got married in Jamaica but at a different property. I know there are other RIU brides here so someone will chime in with info I'm sure. You could also check out the various reviews that are available and see what past brides have said about his property in particular. Plus do a search for forums on this property and get to know the brides that are there. Generally if someone has a question, it has been asked before and the answers are usually on one of the forum sites if you read through. There is a ton of helpful information here. Good luck and happy planning! -

For you ladies in the US, Dollar Tree has a website and you can order online. Same with the tumblers that some ladies use for the OOT bags. You can order them in quantities of 24 from the website.

Beach Wedding-Mature Bride
acw271011 replied to Sara1603's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I agree with @kmk2016 Pinterest is a great place to look. The other thing is just google some of the photographers and look through their wedding shots. Sometimes looking at someone actually wearing a dress for their wedding is better than just looking at a model in a pic. You get a better idea of how long of a train you want, if any. What fabric you want because there are quite a few. I wore a very simple ivory chiffon strapless for my second wedding in Jamaica 3 years ago and we were just the two of us. It was just the thing for the venue that we had. Good luck! -
I would look through the vendor reviews at photographers and see what past brides have said and if any of them mention engagement shots. There are a ton of great photographers in that area. It's just a question of the style you want and how much you want to pay! I would pick a few and look at their websites and see if their style agrees with what you're looking for, then email them for pricing. I'm sure you'll find something that will work for you. Good luck!

I don't know how many you need, or think you will need. There is a company called discount mugs (www.discountmugs.com) and they have some really nice ones, but they have a minimum number requirement for ordering. I don't know if you could ask around on here to see if there is anyone else that is looking for them that might be willing to split costs with you. It would be worth it in the long run because their prices look to average out to about $2 per tumbler. Other than Dollar Tree and this site, Walmart is the only other one that I know of and they run about $5 Cdn each.

nothing is every guaranteed in any business until there is a signed contract. there are no obligations either. some will do things as a courtesy but are not required to hold anything until they have money and a signed agreement.
