  1. @tygrrlily You changed your cover pic!! How come you didn't post your pics from Mexico? Didn't you have engagement photos done? Will we get to see them??? Yeah - with the kind of summer we've been having I don't want to think about rain anymore either!! We were in North Carolina just over a week ago and out of 9 days I think we had 3.5 nice sunny days. It rained the rest of the time. We camped with our trailer and our camp site flooded. Twice!!! They had to come and dig a little ditch to try and get the water to drain!! We were in upstate New York for the long weekend and we had a huge thunderstorm on Friday night that scared the you know what out of me!!! Then last night coming home, we had to do the detour because of the Burlington bridge stuff and we came through on the 407 about an hour and a half before Burlington flooded!!! Give me a break!! We're booked for labour day weekend extra long and I'll bet you it rains the whole time! And I'm looking out the window at work right now and it's getting ready to storm again!!!!!
  2. What about something like Casa Loma? Or east on the Scarborough Bluffs near one of the beaches? There are also some pretty cool mansions that would have spectacular photos. Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington? Waggoners beach out in Stoney Creek? Canada's Wonderland? One of the wineries? There are a few of the wineries that are right on the water. There is also Edgewater Manor in Stoney Creek. It has an outdoor garden that is right on the water's edge. A friend's daughter got married there 2 days ago. What about the CN Tower? That might cost you a bit but if you're really into an adventure, what about the Edge Walk around the outside. Don't know if any of those help at all...... Good luck with whatever you decide.
  3. I work with someone that has developed an ulcer over planning her AHR!!!! Different cultures and there are certain seating requirements, etc. I like the driving and looking at your hand!! lol That's funny! I've been married almost 3 years and I still look at my hand!! We had so much that went on with our planning that I would get home at night and rattle off to my other half about the things I found and looked at and thought about, etc. etc. Well one night he looked at me and said "Can we please talk about something else?" I actually asked him why???? lol Guys can be such dorks when they want to be!! lol What about: 1. what if it rains? 2. what's taking the resort so long to reply? 3. I hope my dress gets here soon 4. how am I going to transport all the OOT bag stuff? 4. I thought DW were supposed to be cheaper!! lol
  4. There are quite a few threads for this resort and I know this is something that has gone back and forth with brides. Here is one thread, but I recommend you do a search in the forums bar and you'll get several links. It will mean doing some reading, which is definitely one of the things to do with this site, but you'll get so much more information that way! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/72891-grand-sunset-princess-2014-bride/ Good luck and happy planning!
  5. Quest.com here lol Almost 13 years and counting! We talked for nearly a month online before we actually met. Then we met in a very public restaurant just to be safe. We talked so much we closed the place... and it was a work night!! The rest followed pretty quick after that. We're a lot older and it was second time around for both of us. We moved in together after 9 months and had no ideas about getting married at all. In fact, neither one of us wanted to again. But some health scares and ex complications changed that. So after 10 years together we got married on the beach in Jamaica, nearly 3 years ago. If things go the way we hope, we'll renew our vows in Mexico next year on our anniversary. I firmly believe you can meet someone online as long as you follow the rules and are really careful. We haven't had any issues with telling anyone that we met online.
  6. @@jeffandrobyn Well done! You've listed all of the exact reasons why brides really should work with a TA. It really will uncomplicate your life!! And again.... I will recommend the owners of this site Wright Travel. Read the reviews about them. They have very special relationships with a lot of the resort chains and will definitely let you know if there are group perks available to you for the resort you've chosen. Good luck and happy planning!
  7. Your location is the big decision! I'm still trying to nail one down and keep waffling just when I think I've made my mind up about one! Sandos is on my list, and I've just started to look at the Riu Palace - I thik the the RM. I've also got Gran Porto but I think that one will go and Grand Sunset Princess too. I would love Playacar Palace but it's going to be out of the budget. I've started trying to lean towards an adult resort but no final decision and I want something close to Playa del Carmen. I love the Royal but it's really costly. Do you have a travel agent yet? Definitely work with one if you don't yet have one. Not sure where you're from, but if you're in the US, Wright Travel that owns this site are destination wedding specialists. They would be able to help you out with your requirements, number of guests and what budget you're trying to work with. Good luck and happy planning!
  8. My vote will be for dress 2. I love how it's a bit more flowy and I love the lace pattern of it! Whichever one you chose will be beautiful on you I'm sure!! Good luck!
  9. We didn't have anybody. It was just the two of us. We did our actual wedding in Jamaica, so did need witnesses to sign the marriage license. The wedding coordinators signed.
  10. Hi! Just wondered if you notice that your jacket letter says March 2014....
  11. Well I have to ask. Which race and who are your drivers? lol We used to do about 4 a year, and did both Michigan races (June & Aug) every year for 9 years. It has just gotten so disappointing and boring to watch over the last couple of years. They keep changing it and taking the competition out of it!
  12. @lcboyko Nicely done!! Kananaskis is a beautiful area for pics. @VegasBride121314 You're half way there! Keep working at it and you'll be there before you know it!!
  13. I think you did a great job with the matching. they look pretty darned close to me, and with the photos, I doubt you'll really be able to see that they aren't "exact"! @MissJen3 Just a little tidbit of information - Moores is a canadian store. I'm not sure they even ship to the US come to think of it. Mens Warehouse in the US is a great store! @@marinah84 Not sure if you have a Jos. A Bank near you, but that might be someplace else to try for bow ties. But I think what you have looks great!
  14. Try looking through the buy, sell trade forums and see what you find there. I know there were a few past brides selling starfish, but I'm not sure of the size. I added a link below. If you click, it will give you the list to look through. Spend some time with it! You just never know what you'll find, and it's a lot of fun! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/98-buy-sell-trade-or-freebies/
  15. Hi Congrats! And welcome to the site. Do a forum search up top for your resort and you should find several threads. Spend some time reading as well. You will find a ton of information here that will help you on your planning journey! I've found one thread and placed the link below. It will give you a start. Good luck and happy planning! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/24196-blue-bay-grand-esmeralda-brides-post-here/
  16. There are no hard and fast traditions anymore. You can definitely make your own! Giving gifts to each other isn't mandatory. If it's something you'll be comfortable with, go for it. But don't think you have to do it!
  17. Let it go. She refused even after you offered to pay. No point in riling anyone up, and if you beg or tick her off, it would likely get back to your FI. It's one of the things that goes with the territory of doing a DW and sometimes you just have to suck it up. Put your time and energy into supporting the man you're going to marry instead. You may be marrying into his family, but he's the one you're going to live with!
  18. We were married in Jamaica and it was a minister that performed our ceremony. We just took out some of the very religious content, but overall, kept it fairly traditional.
  19. Oh I love them!!! They turned out awesome!!! I've designed what I want for stickers. I just still have to wait to see if I'm even going to need them! I was only looking at about a dozen tumblers so I just don't know if it's worth it or not. Hospital date is right around the corner though..... so we're getting closer to seeing where we're at!! The difference for me is that I can order to the US and just pick everything up at my stepson's.
  20. Did you run into minimum quantities when you were ordering? I looked on that site and love what they have but I just couldn't get quantities low enough for me to make it worthwhile. It kept trying to add fees on that I couldn't figure out.
  21. Congrats and welcome to BDW! You will definitely find whatever info you need here to help you plan. First, I strongly recommend consulting a travel agent! They are the best people to help you with resorts that will fit with your budget. Since you're in the US, check out the owner of this site, Wright Travel. They are destination wedding specialists and have tons of knowledge about resorts and what they can provide you with. Some resorts offer perks for group bookings as well. Wright will be able to help you with that info. In the US, you generally book your hotel room block, then flights are handled separately. In Canada, that's not the norm. Usually the packages are all inclusive meaning air, ground transportation and hotel stay. It's much more expensive for us to book our air, namely because of the horrendous tax rates we get charged on flights. You don't mention the time of year you would like. Obviously there are times of the year that are more expensive than others, and cheaper times too. Again, Wright can help you out with that. I'm not totally sure I agree that Cancun is always more expensive. There are definitely reasonably priced resorts just as Playa del Carmen has very expensive resorts. It will come down to what you want. Good luck and happy planning!!
  22. No no.... lol I corrected and said older.... not old! And I still have you beat by several years!! lol @lcboyko I wish I could say that! Well sometimes anyway..... I'm pushing @*#$ in a couple of years! sshhhhh A lady never gives away her age! @VegasBride121314 You are so absolutely right!! Sad as it is to say, yes. But that is so true of many things in life. And I love your little caption - Love over 50 is still love! That is too cute. I didn't think it could be this awesome at my age, but after 13 years together and almost 3 years married, I love him more now than I thought possible. We've been through a lot and the next hurdle is coming up in about 5 or 6 weeks. I can't picture trying to get through it without him. And he's just so darned sexy too!! lol
  23. Not at all. We got married there nearly 3 years ago, and were both divorced as well. Your marriage is completely legal and your certified certificate will suffice to do everything you want to do for name change, etc. We had to wait a few weeks for the original, I think about 8 weeks. They gave us a photocopy of the marriage register to bring home with us, which will get your ball rolling but for the heavy duty stuff like credit cards or anything legal, you need to wait for your actual marriage certificate. We actually received 2 but I don't know if they're still doing that or not.
