  1. lol - with little exception I have to honestly say I don't think I've ever actually seen a true bridezilla here!!!! and you definitely aren't one!!! (I've seen the tv bride shows so you definitely aren't one!!! lol) The one thing I see on here so much is that everyone wonders why WCs or vendors don't get back to them as quickly as they would like. The wedding planning process is quite a bit different for a wedding outside of the US or Canada, whether it's Mexico or Jamaica or somewhere else. I remember I totally freaked out when I heard that the WC at our resort in Jamaica wouldn't be in touch with me about details until just a couple of months before our wedding. Then we had our meeting with here a couple of days before our wedding and I truthfully wondered why I had worried at all, and that was even with all of our plans completely falling apart. I did go through fairly slow response times with our florist in Ocho Rios of about a week or so but she did get back to me and in the end it turned out just fine. I should have added that there are several really good florists that different brides here have dealt with and have either give the thumbs up or thumbs down to. I do have a couple of names if you're still trying to get in touch with more than one but @@calgarybride2015 is absolutely right in that you will need to ask your WC about bringing in flowers from outside in case they hit you up with the vendor fee. Having said that, there are ladies here that have gotten around that fee by going out either to a front gate or main entrance, or having someone go for them on the day of their wedding, to meet the florist delivery so that they can't be tagged as actually being an outside vendor.
  2. Wow @@tygrrlily You have really done an incredible job!! The time and effort you've put into all of this is amazing!!!! I so can't wait to see pics when it all comes together!! The flowers are gorgeous..... so I checked out their website and hmmmm...... bears some thinking about! Did you really find the prices were that much better than the prices in Mexico, or is it just because of the resort prices?? It's all going to come together beautifully!
  3. @Tiffany1221 Oh my goodness - that's pretty much peak winter travel time. If you think maybe 50 people, using roughly 2 per room as a rough calculation, you could possibly be looking at 25 rooms? Wow. Have you considered possibly getting a second opinion on the travel info? I really have to recommend the owners of this site, Wright Travel. They are DW specialists and have access to information that we just don't have. There is no fee, so you wouldn't be losing anything by at least getting a second opinion, and if they can do some kick butt things for you, then it would be worth it. Here's the link if you want to try: http://wrighttravelagency.com/inquiry/ They would be better equipped to recommend when to do your room block. Depending on the resort, if you have people booking different places and they aren't connected to your group at all, you lose out. Wright could help you with a room block and then help your guests with their flight arrangements as well. Saves you the stress of answering all your guests questions too. You get someone with tons of experience that you can refer your guests to. They have reviews on this site that you could read just to reassure yourself. I got married in Jamaica almost 3 years ago at Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay and it was great! We loved Jamaica. Our circumstances were a bit unusual but the resort treated us like royalty. We had photos done off site from the resort and had a wonderful local Jamaican photographer that we loved working wtih. We're tentatively planning a vow renewal in Mexico next year, for our anniversary in October if things go well. Good luck with your plans!!
  4. Hi @Tiffany1221 Welcome to the site! You won't find any shortage fo information here and everyone is very willing to help out with suggestions and ideas. You don't indicate if you're in the US or canada so I'm not sure why your TA is saying they can't help with rates yet. There are a couple of ladies here with 2016 dates and they've been able to obtain some rate information. And if you're looking at doing a room block, I know it's highly advisable to get it done as soon as possible, especially if you're picking a popular time of the year for travel! Do you know which resort you want and what time of the year? Do you have a budget yet or an idea of approximately how many people might be able to make the trip? Keep in mind that the number you think will likely decrease by at least 10% if not more. Different circumstances come up for people for various reasons and as much as we want everyone to be as happy for us as we are, life has a way of stepping in. Good luck and happy planning!!
  5. The other thing for me is that because we're going to be such a small group, and it's a renewal rather than our wedding, I've decided to go off site. I know what I want, and if we were a group of 25 or more, then I would go with a resort plan but they don't seem to do really well with very small groups in terms of still having private functions. It just seems that as soon as you go below a certain number, you have to go semi private instead. I also don't want beach for a ceremony. I have no desire at all for sand between my toes so I want something a little different that still keeps us near the water but without gawkers. Joyce has been super with suggestions and ideas. And I completely agree with @@kmk2016 that for some people the planning part of it is just too time consuming for them and they want someone to handle the "little details" for them which a resort coordinator can't do since you still have to communicate with them. An outside coordinator will take it all and basically do it for you when you tell them what you want. I've said it before and will say it again. Your TA will become your new BFF, and when you look at what an agency like Wright can do for you, who wouldn't want a new BFF like @ !! Sorry - I figure a little sucking up can't hurt...... But seriously, when you think about all the questions your guests might have, and the perks you might miss out on by not having a travel agent working for you and on your behalf, getting one just makes the most sense. It will take the stress away and they know things that I guarantee you don't!! lol
  6. In situations like this, your TA is your best friend, so I will definitely advise again to speak to whoever is helping you, or talk to Wright. They don't charge you so you could get info without worrying about cost but it would give you piece of mind. They'll be able to tell you what you're up against.
  7. http://www.thepapermillstore.com/colors/blue-card-stock?gclid=CJXzns3pkMACFQMMaQodfZUAuw http://www.paper-papers.com/colors-blue-card-stock.html http://www.lcipaper.com/blue-cardstock.html Here's 3 links I found and they're definitely not the price you have. Not sure if it's exactly what you want but you can take a look. I know a lot of the ladies on here have done DIY so they may have other suggestions as well. Good luck!!
  8. I was going to recommend Joyce but I see she chimed in already. If you get the green light from your resort, I would definitely get in touch with her and see if she can help you out. I've already started working with her, and as soon as I get medical ok to go ahead with our plans, I'm going to get her help to book our vow renewal for next year. She has already made great suggestions and had ideas for what I want and I'm really happy so far. Good luck!
  9. I'm very curious to know why you think Playacar can't handle your group? I did one of Tammy's webinars earlier this year on Playacar because it was one I was looking at until I found out it was way out of my budget. The rep that was on the webinar was great and seemed very on the ball and informative as far as their facilites. I see you're in PA. Do you have a travel agent yet? Why don't you contact Wright Travel here and try to speak with TA Wendy. She was on the webinar session and Wright has excellent relationships with Palace resorts. They'll be able to tell you right away if there is any concern at all with your group size for Playacar. Right off the top of my head, I would say no. Good luck!
  10. I'm going to chime in on number one as well. Simple, Elegant and definitely fits with the beach theme.
  11. Here is a site that has very reasonable prices. Not sure if you want organza or satin but this place has both. You can see the colour ranges here. http://tableclothfactory.com/product/list/organza_sashes/124 The other thing if you're looking for used ones, scan through the Buy Sell Trade forums and see what you can find there. Good luck!
  12. I'm going to preface this with the usual warning. lol Your wedding isn't until March so still a long way off. The florists will all be dealing with weddings that are much closer than yours. They will email you back but you will need to just sit tight. There are several very good ones - who did you email? You need to remember this is Mexico, and the pace of life is much different than it is here. I know for all ladies that your wedding is the important overriding thing on your mind, but the florists are dealing with hundreds of other weddings besides yours. I know it tests the patience. We want immediate answers to everything. It will all come together, I assure you.
  13. Oh this is funny to read!! My husband always gets onto me about how much I pack when we go away. I will be honest.... I bought a little bit of new stuff right before we got married and took it with me to Jamaica. And I came home with a bunch of it unworn! There will be group events obviously that you will need to dress (either shorts or whatever) but for the most part, and except for a la carte dinners, you will be in a swim suit and cover up!! And believe me - the weight in your suitcase adds up VERY quickly!!!!
  14. A year out is good. Most bridal shops will tell you a year. Some styles take longer than others too.
  15. I'm very surprised by all the negativity. I realize it's your wedding and "your wedding your way" but just remember you're travelling to another country, that has different ways of doing things. Some of that needs to be respected. Outside vendor fees may seem unfair but that's also the resort's perogative to charge them if they see fit. You may be bringing business to them but for them it is a "cutthroat business". There are dozens of other resorts all competing for the wedding business. All you have to do is read through the threads here to see how competitive it all is. Somewhere along the way they do need to draw the line and do what they feel is best for them. I disagree totally that nobody cares about you but only the money you're bringing in. I got married at a resort in Jamaica and we had awful circumstances that went against us. The resort where we got married worked with us every step of the way and when we did finally arrive there, treated us with the utmost respect and care.
  16. I agree. You have to remember... this is Mexico we're talking about. I don't think it would be close to the level of sophistication that you're thinking of for clubs in LA. My son is a DJ and if he follows through with going with us to Mexico for our vow renewal, the very first thing he asked me was if he would be able to step in with a DJ and do some mixing!! So I would be very surprised if your brother and cousin would have any qualms about playing at your wedding. They could always split the time so they each get a chance to enjoy the wedding. Besides - if they're anything like my son, they would never pass up a chance to show off!! lol He always tells me - hey you never know who might be listening!!
  17. Nowdays, everybody always mixes stuff with other stuff. I can't see why you couldn't wear one on one wrist, and the other on the other wrist, especially given the sentimental value of the new bracelet. I've seen photos where ladies have pearls on one wrist and swarovski's on the other so why would it be any different? I say go with whatever you want to wear!! It's your wedding!
  18. Enjoy the visit! That's a resort I would love to go to, but definitely out of budget!! I would go through your wedding day one step at a time and write down all of the questions you want to ask ahead of time. That way when you get your site visit and your time with the coordinator, you'll have all of your questions ready. Good luck. Definitely let us know what you find out. I would love to know!
  19. What about getting a second week at another resort within Mexico - something maybe a bit higher end where you could have your alone time. Or as @@calgarybride2015 said, if you can afford it, fly home from your wedding with your package, then get on a flight to another destination. With the way packages are structured here in Canada, that may be your best bet. Flights out of Mexico are definitely expensive!!
  20. I was married in Jamaica nearly 3 years ago at a different resort but I'm afraid I'm no help as far as your rentals. We were only 2 so didn't have to worry about having all the chairs, etc. Plus our resort had a gazebo right on the beach that was absolutely gorgeous and that's where we got married. You could flip through vendor reviews on this site to see if there are any that past brides have reviewed as far as their services and see if something comes up there that might help you out. Otherwise, you could also google providers and see what you find. The thing is if you're going outside of your resort you'll need to find out about outside vendor fees. Most resorts charge for using vendors that arent part of their set up. Some of the resorts will charge upwards of $1,000, while others are quite a bit cheaper but if you're bringing in a photographer, a florist, videographer or anything else, your outside vendor fees could add up quite quickly. And if your resort does charge an outside vendor fee, it could effectively eliminate any savings you might find from another vendor. You'll need to weigh it all out and find out from your coordinator about the outside fees. Good luck!
  21. Davids has a fabric swatch for almost every colour that they carry for their bridesmaid dresses. They charge I think it's a dollar for each sample. They're satin which is fine but at least it gives you an idea. I have the Begonia too and Malibu and Coral Reef. It definitely helps to try to figure out what you want to put together. I was originally coral and turquoise but my son's girlfriend wanted pink instead. I'm ok with it, but then they broke up and now he has another girlfriend (yes already!) I don't know what they're going to do now as far as coming with us to Mexico. He goes through girlfriends like there's no tomorrow. He's our party animal.... lol Anyway, pick out the colours that you want and just pop into a Davids and ask for them.
  22. Hi. I just wondered how you heard about the new section? Is it actually part of the Grand Sunset because they do already have an adults only section - Yucatan something. Any details would be great! Thanks!!
  23. Just be mindful as you're searching that new users must reach 150 posts before they are able to see all postings. I noticed you're a new member - welcome!! And congrats on planning your wedding! This site will be a useful resource during your planning. Spend some time reading through the site and definitely look through the DIY sites using the search bar. There are definitely ones you won't be able to access, but take a look and see. As a side note, there are ladies here that have found the passport invites at cheaper rates. As well, there is this site that has free downloads and instructions on putting the invites together: http://www.ayleebits.com/templates.htm Quite a few of the brides here have made use of this site. Good luck!
