  1. I wish they had been in my size. I've been looking at starfish ones on Etsy!!
  2. Hi. Don't know if you got your question answered or not. We were married nearly 3 years ago in Jamaica and they asked us for certified copies, which meant taking the originals into a lawyer and they take the copies and certify that they are a true copy. We were also both divorced and had to do the same thing with our divorce papers. That's what will stay On file with the office of the registrar in Jamaica. You will receive a photocopy of your marriage registration after your ceremony but it will hake about 8 weeks before you receive your actual marriage certificate, which is what some Ontario offices require for name changes, etc. We picked Jamaica because it was just so painless to get legally married there instead of doing the legal at home then just a symbolic in Jamaica. Good luck!
  3. Congrats and welcome to the site. There are a few threads already started for that Dreams location. If you just search the Forums you'll find them. I would recommend doing it when you have some time to read. I know the questions you're asking have definitely been answered in those threads. Good luck!
  4. Just a note to Canadian brides and US websites. Not all will ship to canada and some will not even accept a Canadian credit card, even if you have a US address that you're shipping to. In the years since my son moved to the US we have run into this over and over again and it can get really frustrating. I believe Dollar Tree is an American retailer so that may be where the issue is.
  5. Congrats and welcome to BDW! Always nice to see the grooms to be involved in the planning! I am one that can vote for Jamaica. The price points are varied depending what you're looking for but still very reasonable. We were married at the Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay and fell in love with the country. We had a local photographer and the resort has a gazebo that gives you the best of both worlds by being right on the beach without having your toes in the sand. It's beautiful and extremely popular. You might also look at the Secrets resorts or The Royalton White Sands. I know for a fact that Thomson does tours out of the UK having family there that have been to Jamaica and of course from Canada it's a popular destination. Good luck and keep us posted on your final choice! Happy planning!!
  6. Don't know if you've had the chance to go through the site but there is a Buy Sell Trade section as well that you could search through. Something might pop there for you. Good luck!
  7. I have to agree with all of the above! It's a gorgeous dress and I think a sparkly belt would be fabulous with it!! Would make it pop for sure. And adding something really sparkly for jewellery would add even more to it! Don't give up on the dress. Deep breath and get some store help to "sparkle" it up!! Good luck!
  8. Squeal! You looked gorgeous!!!!! Was hoping to see something from your wedding when I finally made it back here! I hope it all went beautifully, and we definitely want a full report!! Congrats on being a Mrs!!! Beautiful shots!!
  9. Lol - the rule here is that you have to post pics so everyone can see!! (hint hint) I love the Mori Lee designs. They're just gorgeous! So far my favourites are David Tutera's designs for Mon Cheri. But a decision will be tough.....
  10. Lily - your whole thread is absolutely incredible! You are so talented! I don't know why on earth you would say you can't DIY! You're a marvel at it!!! I really can't wait to see how it all comes together! My gut says it will be spectacular!!!
  11. I don't know if you would consider another location or not, but Jamaica might be an option too. I agree with @AllieH Hurricane season is hurricane season and that's something that isn't going to change. We were married in Jamaica in October and the locals were very fond of telling us the statistics on hurricanes NOT hitting Jamaica! I would talk to the resorts that you're considering and ask them what their back up plan is if there is a storm while you're there. Would they just move it inside if it's not too too bad? Would they allow postponing a day or so until the worst is over? As well, you don't generally get a day's notice for a hurricane. They track these things fairly far out and are reasonably good at projecting where they will hit. If it's going to be that bad, it's doubtful your airline would fly there anyway so travel insurance is definitely an absolute MUST! A lot to think about, but if you look at the statistics, the odds do tend to be in your favour!
  12. Oh that's just absolutely awesome! What a lucky lady! He seems like a wonderful guy!!
  13. I'm so sorry for the brides that are being affected by this disaster in Cabo, and heartbroken for the people there that have their lives destroyed. My husband and I have been to Cabo a couple of times and absolutely love it. The people are wonderful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We've wandered the streets and found little out of the way shops and restaurants and loved every minute! I know they will rebuild the resorts since Cabo relies so heavily on the tourist industry, but I also hope that the people there are able to rebuild the little that they have too. I did read that a couple of the resorts had set up trust funds for their employees to rebuild. I hope the brides affected are able to work out something with your resort so that you still somehow are able to have the wedding you were hoping for!
  14. I agree with TA Kathy, especially since she's a master at this travel stuff. Has the resort just dumped this on you? When did you actually book and deposit your date? If you have rooms booked and guests, etc along with all of your reception details, I would be screaming blue murder at the resort and demanding that they fix it. And if you have a signed contract, that's definitely something for you to fall back on. They can't just arbitrarily renege on that deal. That's why a contract is signed in the first place! Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out!
  15. Hi ladies, Wow - you have no idea how much I have missed this site!! I so can't wait to see all the news and updates! As of today, I'm finally going to start stopping in to the site. It will be in bits and pieces for now, but hopefully in another week or 10 days, I'll be able to actually keep track of what's going on. I know there is a ton to catch up on! It has been a much longer haul than hubby and I expected. I thank God every day that I'm married to my best friend in the world and a very special man. I couldn't have made it this far without him! I ended up with a second 3 day hospital stay for infection for which we now have daily wound care. Stairs are a chore, which unfortunately our house has many of, so I tend to try to get myself in one place and stay there for a while. We're still on the watch for fever and another emerg hospital stay is still "out there" depending on how things go over the next couple of days. The excellent part is that since I really started working at it plus all this stuff, I've now lost about 20 lbs! Yay me! My husband had his "most embarassing moment" earlier in the week and during a particularly difficult deal at the hospital passed out for the first time in his life! Thankfully we had a really quick doctor right there that caught him as he went down or his head would have hit something really hard. My hero! We're waiting now to see what my doctor has to say to him when we see him in about 10 days because the doctor that caught him going down was my doctor's colleague! lol Scared the beejeezuz out of me when it happened, but we laugh about it now, and hubby knows he'll never live it down!! Sometimes you just have to find the lighter moments...... I hope everyone is getting through their planning. I know there are quite a few dates coming up quickly. Hopefully I'll be able to get reading soon! Cheers!
  16. Hi ladies. This will be quick but just an update. I'm home at last. This is going to be a slow process. Full four hours of surgery, 3 hours in recovery, and 9 days in the hospital but made it through. We have another trip back to the hospital on Wednesday when hopefully they decide all the staples can finally come out but we'll see what they say. May need to be another couple of days. Overall doctor is very pleased and very very optimistic. See him again on October 8th. I'm walking around now bits at a time. They keep telling you they want you to move ..... They just don't tell you how you're supposed to do that!! Lol Food has been a hurdle. The good part is another 6lbs are gone! Yay! Ok. That's it. The energy level goes away quickly. I hope you are all well and planning is going well too. Don't know how I'll catch up on all the gossip. All the best.
  17. Thanks very much for the well wishes. From your mouths to God's ears. Then hopefully some good news.... This is me signing off and hoping to be back in a couple of weeks.
  18. Oh my gosh I love #2, even if the ladies are hanging a little! lol I think it's a stunning dress and the bling is gorgeous! All 3 dresses are beautiful so you could definitely take any one of them for a beach wedding!
  19. There are quite a few good photographers in the RM and I think a good number of them have been reviewed on this site. I would suggest that you look through the vendor reviews and see what past brides have said. Then look on their websites and see if any photography touches you. They all have their own styles and you would really need to look a their work. Once you've done that you can just email them for prices. Most of them will try to work with you for something within your budget. We've decided on Bicoastal Images. They've been very responsive so far with questions and I like what I've seen on their website.
  20. We did pinned for our AHR. That's what the preference was. I've always thought a pinned one looks really nice.
  21. I had real flowers done in Jamaica, so I didn't have to worry about this. I'm sure there are ladies here that will have suggestions or ideas! Good luck!
  22. Wrist coils will be ours too. I think for people swimming and so on, or lying in the sun, the wrist will work better. Someone is liable to forget a lanyard around their next and jump in the pool with it! lol
  23. Well ladies.... A big day for us is almost here. No.... not a wedding day or even the vow renewal we're trying to look forward to. Tomorrow is surgery day, hopefully for the last time. Hubby and I have been through a lot since we got married 3 years ago, and I couldn't have gone through everything without him. I will be away from the site for a couple of weeks until I'm home and starting to get back on my feet. The good part is I get to be off work for 2 whole months!! lol I can definitely handle that part. The rest is going to be a little bit tougher but we're really keeping fingers crossed that there will be good stuff at the end of this. To the ladies that have weddings in the next few weeks, I will say good luck and enjoy your wedding day. Even if little things go wrong, in the grand scheme of things it's marrying the man you love that counts the most. Be sure to post your pics and a review when you're back! I'll say ciao for now....... and look forward to catching up on all the planning news soon. Maybe we'll have some news too that will let us move forward with our own planning! All the best!
