  1. Congrats on planning a DW. You don't say what country you're in but a travel agent is your best reference in terms of what you want in a resort and what will work for your budget. If you're in the US, the owners of this website are specialists in destination weddings. They would be worth talking to. If you're in Canada, there are any number of travel agents that brides here have worked with so I know you could get at least one recommendation depending on what part of the country you're in. The other thing would be to look through the resort reviews and see specifically what past brides have said about their experience. Good luck and happy planning!
  2. We flew with Transat too, and they do not consider a wedding dress a "carry on" so it's a freebie.
  3. Well done! Excellent thread! Definitely keep the details coming. Your wedding will be spectacular! I'm so glad to actually read details on working with Joyce!! I'm anxious to get our decisions made and finalized so that I know when I can get started on working with her too! She has been great with my emails and providing suggestions and ideas!
  4. People have busy lives so sometimes a gentle reminder doesn't hurt. Having said that, how much notice have they had? How long ago was your BBQ? How many have booked so far? Did you build in any extra to your deadline? Sometimes if it's very far in advance, it's hard for people to book vacation. I know if we got an invitation right now for a DW in June of next year, neither of us would be able to do anything until January. We're both in high end jobs, which you would think gives you all kinds of leeway, but you also have to work with the people that report to you and their schedules. What about the people with children? Do they need to make special arrangements for them since November is still school time. Lots of things that go into people making decisions. If you do send an email, I would make it very upbeat and relaxed. You don't want people to feel like they're being pressured. Good luck!
  5. Well there is a very easy solution to that!! Get in touch with the owners of this site, BDW. They're experts in destination weddings and have special relationships with several of the resort chains. I would highly recommend getting in touch with them, and telling them what you're looking for. Absolutely get a TA to help you. There are so many resorts out there, it's hard to field through them all. A TA that has experience will be an invaluable asset to you as you go through your planning process. Check them out. You lose nothing by asking! Here's the link: http://www.wrighttravelagency.com/go/plan-your-destination-wedding?keyword=BDWTB Good luck!!
  6. I'm so not the right person to get into this kind of thing. I feel so badly for all of you young ladies that get put into situations like this. It's just so unfair. Life is too short for this kind of thing. Why do we worry so much about pleasing everyone else? I think I'm too old.... I just put them in their place and if anyone takes issue with it, well too bad. It's your wedding and you're entitled to not have to put up with other people's nastiness. Is it really that bad if the bridal party is uneven? Or perhaps FI could shed a body and just have an MOH and BM? Is he aware of the garbage that you're being put through? If not, I would let him know. And I would tell her flat out - suck it up or out you go. Maybe that's the big problem. Nobody has put her in her place. Good luck!
  7. Have you read through the resort reviews on the site? I'm sorry - I don't have any info on the resort. What about talking to your travel agent and see if they have any info they could add? They're supposed to be the pros for that kind of thing. As well, check out the forums here and read through them and see what brides have said. Good luck!
  8. We got married at 1pm and it was just me. The salon at the resort made the appt for 10:30 and I barely squeaked back in time to get dressed and get pics done before the ceremony. With a group as big as yours, I would make sure you start early!! And I agree - find out in advance how many staff will be allocated to your group, or if you're bringing in outside people, how many are they bringing? They're the professionals so talk to them and allow them to make the decision, then push it back by half an hour just to be absolutely certain.
  9. Given how fantastically responsive the BDW TAs are, I would send a quick note to whoever your TA is and ask. They are great with keeping the lines of communication open, so I wold be surprised if you didn't get some kind of update.
  10. I'll chime in and agree. I would just mark it as "and guest" unless you know who they are bringing with them, in which case then you would address it as "Jane Doe and John Smith". Either way once they book you'll find out who is who.
  11. I agree completely with@@calgarybride2015 With the heat in the south it will affect you. And what if...... I would do your dress now since they need time to do it and you could always tighten the dress. Don't force yourself into a schedule you might not be able to keep. I who'd love to know who your dress designer is. It's absolutely stunning!!!
  12. I'm just going to say I agree with everyone else. These are all great pieces of advice and I think it all works. I'm sorry you've been affected by all of this. Good luck and I know it will all turn out and you'll gave a wonderful wedding!
  13. Oh my gosh. Girl you are amazing! I love the shoes! Fab! And the robe is so cute! This is only my opinion but I think you have a style of dress that would work fabulously with or without a sash. You could do whatever your heart desires. But if you go the sash route you would definitely need something wider with the bling that will stand out. I think that thin one will get lost in the beauty of your dress whereas a wider one would enhance. Like I said - either/or would be fabulous! The stickers turned out great!! Even if FI says mint isn't a masculine colour... Lol. I like it. Men just don't know anything. That's something you young ladies will find out in a hurry! Lol
  14. Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the site! The questions you're asking I think will come down to personal choice and what you find. Cabo has some beautiful resorts that are all inclusive which works well of course for your guests. As to a wedding venue that's going to take some research on your part. You will need to look at the various resorts and see what their wedding packages are, cost and what they include for the number of guests you think you might have. I would highly recommend looking through the resort reviews posted by past brides and see what their feelings have been about their experience. You will absolutely need a travel agent and one that has experience with destination weddings. They can assist with what your expectations are and what you want. You could definitely contact the owners of this site, Wight Travel. They are DW specialists and have special relationships that they have built with various resort chains. Good luck and happy planning!
  15. I'm so sorry your dream had to be put aside. It's so difficult when you're dealing with family and friends. But again, when it all boils down, you're still going to be marrying the love of your life and I'm sure you'll have a beautiful wedding!! Good luck and all the best!
  16. Congrats and welcome. Barcelo resorts have lovely properties. I'm sure you'll have a beautiful wedding!
  17. Lilly where did you go in Scotland? I have family there but not up north. My mum is from a little tiny sea coast town just across from what's called the Isle of Aaron, or the Sleeping Giant. It's about 30 minutes from Glasgow. I would love to visit the true highlands. But of course whenever I go home it's always to visit family. I hold a UK passport even though I was born here because both my parents are British born. I had the same idea about rereading the books just to refresh my memory! But you're right. They're so long to read. From what I read about the series, they're going to take one book each season and it will be 16 one and a half hour episodes for each book. I like what I'm seeing so far!
  18. Oh oh me! I am I am. I've read every single book, except the most recent one. I haven't loaded it onto my kindle yet lol So far it's holding pretty darned close to the book, except for one thing! Jamie is supposed to be a Scottish REDHEAD!!!! I don't know where they messed that up when they cast the show, but yes..... he is supposed to have red hair lol Has anyone else read any of the books? I missed several of the episodes so got to do the marathon just over a week ago, and it was great to see all of the shows back to back.
  19. Congrats and welcome! MTM has given you a great link to the forums for the Barcelo that you've chosen. Take some time to read through them. I'm sure that you'll find not only other brides that you can get to know but questions you have may get answered too! Good luck and happy planning!
  20. Vistaprint is definitely a good option, or check through the DIY forums here if you're feeling brave. There are tons of wonderful ideas and instructions here from other brides that have done them themselves. Good luck!
