  1. I agree with above, and your mom. Take some time together first. Enjoy being married, buying a house and putting all of your personal touches on it. Go out to dinner. Go to a movie. Do the things that newlyweds do. Travel even. Because yes kids do change things. I had both of my kids by the time I was 25. They're now 33 and 32. Back then having kids young was what you did but looking back on it now, I wish I had waited just a little bit longer. Even just another 2 or 3 years. Have some fun while you're young. You never get that time back! Good luck!
  2. Congrats! Getting the date is always a big deal!! Happy planning!
  3. As always, the best professional advice made available here! Thank you Kathy!
  4. I'll second what @@calgarybride2015 just said! You looked beautiful and your dress is gorgeous! I love the way they tied your sashes onto your chairs. Not the "plain" way of doing it and it looks great! Congrats on being a Mrs!
  5. You better post pics of everything! lol Hope you have your empty suitcase with you! Have a great time!!
  6. Thanks! As I said, nobody likes to think anything is going to happen. With the volume of traffic we have here in Toronto and the accidents that happen daily, you always need to be prepared. All of our kids live far. Closest is 2 hours away plus we have our camper so we spend a lot of time travelling. You hear about things happening and it's always to other people. We've learned the hard way that it isn't always other people. With your wedding being so important, I would say the insurance is a small cost compared to what it might be if you weren't able to go at all and had to cancel last minute. This was the second trip back to the hospital since the original stay 5 weeks ago so I've pretty much had my fill now lol Complications that weren't supposed to happen or so they said. But this time involved the cardiac unit for 3 days so now it's another specialist for at least the next year, and our trip being cancelled for now. I know it's probably easier for the younger brides not to think about anything happening but it's much better to be prepared.
  7. Ok I've definitely learned something here. I've considered this too but had no idea which way to go. What is Sally's and where? Has anyone heard of either a resort spa or one of the speciality ones doing it on your wedding day? I've tried growing my hair longer, and can get it to over my collar then get mad and cut it. But I would love to have a longer half up half down done. I think extensions is going to be the only way to go.
  8. I'm with Kim. Stick to your guns. If you have a "private" mom session planned then go with that and see your friends separately.
  9. I'll give you a random question back... lol What if one of your kids gets really sick 2 days before you are due to leave, and is say hospitalized. What would you do? That's where the trip cancellation comes in. We had a flight booked for the 29th of this month to Vancouver. No big deal. Just to reassure my 93 yr old father that things are ok after all our stuff. I just got back out of the hospital again last night. Absolutely no way I can fly for a minimum of one month now. Well the 29th isn't a month away so we're scrambling to sort it out. We're rebooking so it's a little different but it still made a total mess of things. Horrible subject but what if someone very close to you passes away suddenly right before your wedding? What are you going to do? Nobody likes to think that anything is going to happen, especially something really bad..... but life is what it is and you just never know.
  10. The alternative is a website that sells both new, sample and used gowns. I would say go try it on and make sure you really do love it, along with a few others just to be sure. Then you could always check here: www.preownedweddingdresses.com Some of the prices can be as much as 70% of what the original price is. Good luck!
  11. Wow! Well done! Are the bags from Gemline? I really like them! You've really added a lot to each bag! I'm sure your guests will love them!
  12. Thanks! Yeah - I thought they were kinda cool. Another bride showed them to me and I really like them. But as I said before, it's the reason I did a horizontal key card instead of a vertical one. We find out Nov 5th with what I hope will be the final visit to the doctor if we will be able to go ahead with our plans next October, or if more surgery is ahead in the spring. In which case we'll postpone until the fall of 2016! Fingers crossed!
  13. I had a hem and a bustle done at DB when I bought my dress and it cost me almost $300, which to me was outrageous. And it wasn't even done properly the first time. When i tried the dress on the hem was crooked and the bustle hadn't even been done at all. Needless to say I let loose at them right away. When I went back the second time a week later, it was all finished.
  14. Actually this is the one I'm looking at, but plain. They're clear plastic in whatever colour you want and then you can add a logo if you want. I'm thinking just clear since I made the insert cards and I have black wrist coils. http://www.4imprint.com/search/key%20ring%20zippered%20pouch/product/102936/Key-Ring-Zippered-Pouch
  15. OMG!! Are you ladies kidding me????? lmao You're darned right I was getting frisky on my wedding night!! lol And we had been together 10 years! No matter what, we had just gotten married, we were in Jamaica in a beautiful resort. We danced and drank, even though it was only 2 of us, until almost midnight. Plus I had spent about $100 on something very "special" to wear! You think I was gonna let the love of my life go to sleep???? Not a chance!!! I would absolutely jump on the offer of a private room for my wedding night, especially if it's a gift offering. Bu I would spend the money anyway! hmmm sounds like us old folks could teach you young whippersnappers a thing or two!! lol
  16. We had ours in Jamaica and it was delicious. Our resort did it - plain white cake with a raspberry filling and it was to die for. The icing was sort of a cream - not the sweet stuff like you get here. We had it sent back to our room, but got so sick of eating it after 3 days we tried pawning it off on the maids! But they aren't allowed to accept gifts so we just left it in our room when we checked out lol I'm sure it ended up getting eaten!
  17. How long is your ship docked for? How long is your reception? What about doing photos separately, say with parents and wedding party , on the ship's staircase? I know some of them are beautiful. But are you docked that long that you won't be able to go back to the ship and do a few shots together on the stairs?
  18. hhmmm now I'm confused. I did mine, but I did horizontal. does anyone have an example of a vertical one that they did? the holders that I'm looking at have a zipper across a long side so that's why I did the horizontal. help?
  19. Me too. I can get it to last about 3 weeks so I usually do a couple together but then I pay for it for about 6 months afterwards. My nails are total junk. But the Nailtiques is worth it. My sister got me onto it because she had done the exact same thing with the gel nail manicure. It's a gel protein. You put on 2 coats the first day, then one coat each day for the next 4, then take it all off with non acetone remover and start all over again. At the end of two weeks you will see a big difference. Bugs me that they can't come up with a product that won't destroy your nails because a regular manicure just doesn't last long enough, and to spend the money once a week is a luxury I can't afford. I'm still trying to work out a pattern for manicures/shellac and the Nailtiques. I'm using it now because the general anesthetic and all the drugs have totally destroyed my nails and there is already a difference after only 2 days.
  20. Only thing ever gets waxed here is eyebrows. Too darned scared to death for anything else!! lol I tried threading on my eyebrows and the reaction was so bad.... never again! lol Even the waxing takes 2 days to clear up. My skin just hates stuff.
  21. Look into a product called Nailtiques for right after a shellac. it means you can't do another manicure but it makes a huge difference in your nails. you do level 2 for 2 weeks, then switch to level 1. your nails will toughen up and grow like crazy at the end of 2 weeks I promise. it's a little pricey, but it's great stuff!!
  22. I am SO in love with your thread! You ladies are all so creative! Your dresses are absolutely stunning! I'm in love with the illusion back too, but I also love the keyhole and I'm thinking for Mexico the keyhole just might be a little cooler. Packing is so the worst. Good luck with it!! And happy FI is helping you with the wedding plans. Your date is getting close! Keep the details coming! Enjoying reading your thread!
  23. ha ha you beat me to it! I was just about to make the same comment!! I definitely want to see details too!!
  24. Totally agree! I like that the rule is going to be enforced too! That and vendors that aren't properly registered as vendors trying to sell their stuff here being removed. This is a fabulous site and the community is great. I say let's all work together to keep it that way.
  25. Wow they are all beautiful! But I have to chime in on #2 as well and in the blush would be gorgeous!! With that cover up, wow. It will be beautiful in pictures with the blush and I agree with Kim that the blush will be gorgeous on you! Never heard of Anthropologie..... Boy am I old! But I think I will do some internet looking! lol
