  1. I have to agree on the side of wondering what the heck? Did your invite stipulate that it could be you and a guest? If so, then absolutely if I was being asked to spend all that money then I would expect that my partner would be able to attend the ceremony and other wedding events. Otherwise my answer would be no way! Sorry - but in my book that's just rude.
  2. I'm also a Jamaica bride (3 yrs) and we were married at Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica. It's about an hour from MBay but only about 25 mins from Ocho Rios. They have a gazebo right on the water with a nice walkway leading to it. You're not in the sand at all and the water is right there along with a nice little private area off to the side for your photos afterwards. And the wedding team was amazing!! God luck and happy planning!
  3. Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll find tons of tips, ideas and suggestions here that will help you on your planning journey! I'm a Jamaica bride, married in October. In fact we just celebrated our 3rd anniversary on October 20th. We had beautiful weather during our stay, with a bit of a shower the day of our wedding but it didn't last long and dried up very quickly. I would highly recommend our resort - Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica. We had no complaints whatsoever and the wedding team were fabulous. We had some rather unusual circumstances and ended up with the wedding coordinators signing our marriage license so they really are there to help you! There is a forum here for that resort but Jamaica has a lot of really wonderful resorts. There is also a new one called The Royalton, and the Secrets resorts are also gorgeous (St James and Wild Orchid). There are also a lot of really talented photographers in Jamaica. I would strongly recommend reading the reviews that are available on this site. Check the websites and see what past brides have said and what their experiences were. We used Merrick Cousley and absolutely loved him. He's quick to respond and his work is great. As to travel agents, obviously I would recommend the one we dealt with but there are several that current brides here are working with that they really like so you'll get a few opinions most likely. We worked with Allison McDonald at the Marlin Travel location at 181 Bay Street and found her absolutely great in terms of helping with our group. Even when our plans all fell apart she was terrific at helping us rebook things and sort through the fall out. In the end we still had a wonderful wedding in a beautiful paradise. Our resort has a gazebo right on the beach so you get the best of both worlds. Right on the water without you or your guests walking through sand. And you won't have gawkers in speedos because the gazebo is right down at the edge of the water with a long walkway leading to it. They don't allow people not part of the wedding to get close. There is a little beach not far but it doesn't interfere with your wedding at all, which is nice. Good luck and happy planning!
  4. Welcome back! Glad to hear Disney was great! I LOVE all your stuff!!! The dress is gorgeous, and I really like the capelet. I think the fact that it's a bit of a different colour helps it stand out a little. I think the two look really pretty together! the shoes.... love them and I really love the colour!! and the robe too!! Would you be willing to share where the robe is from? I love it!! The cups are great. I wish I could do them too, but I don't know how practical it is for between 6 and 10 people. But yours turned out great!! I love script writing in any style so I'm a sucker for the romantic one. I think it's looks really nice. Wow - it's getting really close now. You're so organized!!
  5. Have you tried posting it to preownedweddingdresses.com ? I check that site all the time to see if any of the dresses I like show up on the site. I'm sure there are lots of brides that do the same thing. Might be worth a try.
  6. Fantastic idea! As always, thinking of things that will help brides to be with their planning! Thanks to all of you!
  7. I hope I get this right.... lol It has been a while. If you look below at your reply box, there is a button beside Post that says More Reply Options. If you click there, the box will open larger and on the left hand side there is an Attach Files button. Click that and it should got to your own computer drive. Jut watch the size of what you try to post because there is a size limit.
  8. I'm gonna add my 2 cents here and agree that you did the right thing sizing your dress for now. Better safe than sorry. If you have to have it taken in later, then all good but I agree with not wanting to scramble last minute. Especially with your wedding being so close!! Losing weight puts so much pressure on, regardless of what it's for. And as we get older, it gets harder to lose so just adds more stress. I ask myself all the time why we do that to ourselves but I do the same thing. I've lost a total of 25lbs now (thanks more to the hospital than to me) but now my appetite is coming back a bit and I'm scared to death that I'll put some of the weight back on!! lol
  9. @JennyZ I see you're doing one of the Iberostars. I'm looking at Paraiso Maya. What was the deciding factor for you picking the Quetzal? I really like the PM. I'm just not sure what our price point will be since we won't qualify for a group rate. One of the TAs that I spoke to said since we're such a small group we should just book a couple of months ahead. We would be the month of October which I know tends to be a bit of a low season so what she suggested might work.
  10. No it doesn't work that way. The air miles certificates are specifically for packages with Transat. We used them when we got married in Jamaica and have just been building them since then. We just had our 3rd wedding anniversary on Monday so we've accumulated quite a few miles since then! lol But I'll check out the Karisma site and see what I can find, then try and match it if I can with the air miles agents. I still haven't decided anyway on a resort. Still looking and we don't see the Dr until Nov 5th so don't even know until then what our situation will be. I'm also looking at the Iberostar resorts, Secrets Capri, Sandos Playacar and the Ocean Maya Royale, which is adults only. I had someone recommend Sun Palace today, but it's Cancun and we're doing our ceremony stuff in PDC so it doesn't work. Since we're such a small group I want to make a decision on a resort by Christmas if our news is good. If it's not, then everything goes on hold until our anniversary in October 2016.
  11. I LOVE the blush coloured one on you! It's gorgeous!! I agree with @@tygrrlily. I like the simpler, cleaner lines on you and that blush colour is stunning on you!!! You could carry that off beautifully!!
  12. Ok. Thanks. I've already spoken with her. I was just curious. We don't have enough people to qualify for a group rate so she said there wasn't a whole lot that she could help with. We'll be 6 that I know of from this country and possibly 2 or 4 more from the UK. For the ones here, we have air miles certificates that we want to use too and she isn't a registered agent for that. Any ideas how to look for a GI certified agent? Maybe we can find one that is also registered for air miles certs. We have enough to reduce our fares by the max of $400 each, plus enough left over to help someone else.
  13. Congrats and welcome to the site! You will definitely find tons of ideas and opinions here that will help you on your planning journey. Moon Palace seems to be a popular resort for weddings, so definitely take a look at the forums for the resort. I think just about any question you have has been asked by other brides so the forums are one of the best places for easy answers. Good luck and happy planning!
  14. Just a question for you. Since you're in canada like me, did you find a GI certified agent? If so, how? I'm going around in circles looking at resorts and just not finding what I want. I cam across Azul Fives so it is on the short list at the moment. Don't know if it will stay there or not. I know if you do use a GI certified agent you do get extra perks, but I wondered if that also applies here or just in the US? Thanks!
  15. Congrats and welcome to the site! Picking your wedding location is a large part of the process for a dw so you're definitely off to a good planning start! You'll definitely find a ton of ideas here, along with reviews and opinions from past and current brides so take some time to read through the site. Good luck and happy planning!
  16. We're going with Bicoastal Images. I love their site and style and their pricing seems to be very reasonable overall.
  17. From everything I've heard, it's definitely worth it. I found out about it too close to my wedding to be able to do anything about it, and looking at our photos now 3 years later, I wish I had. For Jamaica, from what I've read it really does help in terms of helping your makeup last longer, and continue to look fresh. The spa at the resort overdid my makeup and I wasn't happy with it at all. By the time we were finished with photos, I hated the makeup. I wish I had made the time before our ceremony to take a lot of it off and redo it myself. I'm definitely going to go with the airbrushing for our renewal and I'm also going to be much more outspoken about what I want and don't want.
  18. I bought something off Etsy, then had to stop looking until we're able to finalize what we're doing! lol But as soon as I know what's what, I'll be back there! I love the headpieces as well as the garters and jewellery. I can definitely see how 2 hours just slips away..... lol
  19. The navy and pink is really pretty! I'm working with turquoise and fuschia, but originally like the turquoise and coral. I was asked about the pink and took a look before agreeing. I like both combinations because the turquoise is my favourite. I think the navy will be a great contrast to a water background in photos.
  20. Congrats on being a Mrs! And thanks for your review. It's always good to read other brides experiences, and definitely helps those still in the planning stages! I did want to ask about the beach at GPR. The reviews I've read aren't very flattering - are they true? It looks like there is a fair amount of seaweed. GPR was initially one of the resorts on my short list, but I've since removed it so I'm curious to know your overall feelings about the resort not related to your wedding. How was the food in the restaurants? Was your room cleaned properly, or were there any issues the resort didn't address to your satisfaction? Any comments very much appreciated!
  21. what about just having cups sewn into your dress? I found that super comfortable, then I didn't need to worry about anything. I'm hoping that our next dr visit on nov 5th will be the end of everything and we can start making plans. the good part is I'm now down 25 lbs!!! yay! but until we know there is no more surgery or anything else needed, I'm still holding my breath!! lol
  22. That's awesome Kristy! So adorable and he captured both of you perfectly! And the puppy too! lol Was wondering where you had got to. I'm just getting back in bits and pieces myself so trying to see where everyone is and what they're up to!
  23. purple and teal is spectacular and they make some gorgeous purple orchids that would look fantastic with teal. you could do a google search on flower colours with teal and you'll get images that would give you some ideas.
  24. Bang on Kim. I totally agree. There being nice then there is bending over backwards. You can tell her the plans are well in hand with a smile on your face. That's being nice and as nice as you need to be. Do what you both want and just let her know after the fact. If she doesn't like it, tough. Good luck!
