  1. This is what we sent out. We had our AHR 2 weeks after we came back from Jamaica, but I sent them out as soon as we finalized the details, which I think was early September. We're quite a bit older with grown kids and aging parents, plus my family are all in the UK so there wasn't a huge group for us to invite. We had 30 people which turned out to be just a nice sized group. We had a great time. It didn't beat having family and friends with us in Jamaica but we worked with what we ended up with so it was ok.
  2. That is totally gorgeous! It will definitely rock for a beach wedding!
  3. Oh my gosh! I LOVE all of your stuff!! I really like those dress barn dresses and you can't beat the price!! And ostrich feathers! lol Who knew???? It totally rocks!!!
  4. We did ours through Vistaprint. I did a folding card in a pattern that I liked that said "Our Wedding" on the front. Inside, on the right hand side I did our wedding details. I had a few sheets of one of our wedding photos printed at Walmart and just 2 side taped them inside the card. I think I did 2.5 x 3.5 size. It was easy to do. The thing is for us, we were just the two of us so there wasn't anyone to see us get married, which is why I just did "Our Wedding" on the outside. But you could very easily do "Thank You" and then just write a personal note on the inside. And they weren't super expensive either. Vistaprint has had a bunch of sales on over the last couple of weeks and have been sending me emails like crazy advertising all of the sale prices. They have some really nice cards too. You could even do a photo card if you want and write a short thank you note on the back, then just put it into an envelope to send. Just a couple of suggestions....
  5. Do you have access to another seamstress that would be able to sew in cups for you? That's what I did with my dress 3 years ago and it worked great. I was comfortable, didn't have to worry about a bra and it gave better shape to the dress at least for me. I highly recommend it if there is any way that you can have it done.
  6. I got married in Jamaica and we fell in love with the island. There are so many beautiful resorts available for hosting your wedding. We were married at Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica so of course I'm biased in favour of that resort! lol but @@kmk2016 is absolutely right in terms of working with a travel agent to find a location that works for you. And there are lots of Jamaica brides here - both past and present so looking through the forums here will definitely help you through your planning journey. Good luck and happy planning!
  7. I was married in Jamaica 3 years ago, and did things without a planner. It was all so easy to do! The resorts are great at doing what needs to be done. I think Jamaica is probably one of the easiest places to put a wedding together! Good luck and happy planning!
  8. I walked by myself. Our plans completely fell apart so in the end it was just my husband and I that went to Jamaica for our wedding. The nice part was walking down the pathway.... all I saw was him at the end. It was second time around for both of us, so a little bit different but it was what we wanted. So all the people that cancelled - it was their loss. The most important thing is that you're marrying the man you love in a beautiful setting.
  9. Congrats on becoming a Mrs! And thanks for the review! Secrets Capri is on my list for our renewal so it was good to see a recent review! I'm having the hardest time picking a resort so any info from other brides is a great help!
  10. Oh I love that!! it's gorgeous! I love the offset style - it's what I was looking at too. I think it's something you could wear again for a special occasion. If you love it - get it! lol it's your wedding after all!
  11. They look like bags from Vistaprint, but I checked the site and couldn't find a logo like that one. The thing with Vistaprint you can design your own, so that's a possibility too. Sorry it's not much help.
  12. I agree in that anything goes. Whatever works for you is fine. I don't think there are hard and fast rules for a DW so go with what you're comfortable with.
  13. That's the same issue I'm dealing with right now - the breathing. It's frustrating being so short of breath all the time. I don't know yet if mine will get too much better. I'm hoping but right now we don't know. It's so funny you should mention the Barefoot moscato! My husband LOVES that wine!!!! Funnily enough my 2 favourites both come from upstate New York. Yes - we've had one German Riesling that a colleague of my husband's recommended. It's delicious but don't ask me the name of it lol It's a big long name - I'll have to look it up because if you like something like that, it's definitely worth trying! We looked at the Dirty Laundry wines last week, but when we were in the store we couldn't find anyone to help us with questions so we walked out. My son took us to Granville Island - I had never been before - and we stopped into a wine store there. There was another name - with funny labels on the bottles and funny names. Really silly names.... I'll ask my husband what it was. I just looked up the winery that you mentioned and it's one we haven't tried yet. We've done Konzelman and Strewn which are almost right beside, on the same road so we'll have to check it out. We're actually going next weekend down that way. We're only a half hour or so from Niagara. We booked a hotel deal at the Falls and will have dinner and finally celebrate our anniversary but it also includes casino dollars and winery tours. I'll add Palatine Hills to the list to check out. Usually they give you Peller or Inniskillen or one of the other biggies, but we generally also try to stop at one we haven't tried before. Now all we need is permission to drink again!! lol
  14. I LOVE VS!! One of my most favourite stores!! And they have a wedding section you know..... lol Look online and see what they have. That's where I got my "wedding night" fun stuff! lol And I still pick up little odds and ends there... lol I got swim suit tops there this year too, but in the US. I love their swim suits! Have fun with it and go nuts!!! I love your timeline! You must be getting so excited now!! All you young ladies are so organized! I have a question for you about your maracas. The finish on them is beautiful. I bought some from another bride here and I'm finding the paint is chipping a little. I'm not sure how to fix it. Did you get any instructions from where you bought them about any touch ups? Mine are white. I just don't know whether to just order more or what.
  15. I love your passports!! Wow! If you ever decide to go into the business... lol let me know! If anyone else knows of a company that will do something like this for you, I'd be interested in knowing. We're only going to have a really small group so I'm only going to need like 6 of something like that. If we were going to be a big group I would get into the DIY, but since I'm so useless at stuff like that it just seems like such a lot of work for a tiny group. Any help would be appreciated!
  16. Hi. I was wondering if you could tell me what that beautiful song is being sung in Spanish right at the beginning of this video? I love it! Spanish is such a romantic language, and that song just gives you goosebumps!
  17. That's good news, and especially for the brides with weddings coming up! I'm just happy to hear that things are improving because we love Cabo. That's a shame about Lovers Beach though. I don't know if it would be the water level as much as probably the storm surge swept sand away. It's unfortunately what the hurricanes usually do - erode the beaches. The other side of Mexico has had it happen a number of times too. We always fail to recognize the power of Mother Nature. I really hope there has been help for the people of Cabo in their rebuilding process as well. How did you find the airport? I heard it was an absolute disaster.
  18. I was allowed only a couple of days, and even the flight I had to fight for. We had time with my son in downtown then my dad in Langley. He's almost 94 and has just been so agitated over the hospital stuff this time. It was just to put his mind at ease and let him know that I'm ok. We only looked at wine in the store where my son took us. My husband likes the Guwertz wines too, but I don't care for the spice in the flavour. I'm a Reisling girl and the sweeter the better! lol I don't like sauvignon or chardonnay at all but I found the reislings that we looked at were very much on the dry side, whereas I really like the sweeter ones, like a 4 or higher. I'm in love with icewine which here will go as high as a 24. We do the icewine festival in Niagara here every January. I'm hoping this Friday that we'll get the ok for alcohol again! lol I miss having a glass of wine! I know there will be restrictions because of meds but hopefully I can at least have a glass! I don't care if I can't have the whole bottle!!
  19. I hope it went well for you and I hope the recovery was a smooth one! Ours has been a 2 year road of just constant bad news. We got lucky when it all started though. I came much too close to not being here at all! My husband kept asking when we were going to catch a break. Out of 3 years married 2 anniversaries have been celebrated in the hospital! lol I could not have survived it all without the love of my life and I thank god for him everyday! Even the days when I love him to death but he drives me totally NUTS!! lol Your wedding is getting so close!! You must be so excited! We managed to get permission for a couple of days in Vancouver just to reassure my father that I'm ok so just got back. I have a son there too that lives right downtown and then family in Langley. I've driven the Kokahalla so have been close to Kamloops that way, but have never actually been there. I hear it's beautiful! We were looking for wine to bring home with us for when I get permission again to be able to drink it but were sort of disappointed with what we found. I have an allergy to reds so we only looked at whites, which I know restricts us a lot. Hope the move went well and that you're getting settled before the big day!
  20. I'm still working at getting it all to sink in.... but after about 9 hours of surgery, about 41 days in the hospital in total, huge doses of drugs I can't even spell, 2 blood transfusions and more needles, IVs and blood tests than I could even begin to count, the news we got on Wednesday was overall very positive! We have another report to get on the 14th and we're hoping that one will be as good! It looks like we still might have one more small surgery but we don't even have to look at considering it until next September! And it's possible that things will progress and heal well enough over the next year that it may not be necessary. I even got clearance and go back to work on Monday! No running around like crazy, still no lifting for another 4 weeks but I can finally work at getting on with life! So ladies.... I'm going to start a bit at a time putting our vow renewal together for October next year! I can't believe it! I just hope now that I've said something.... that I haven't jinxed it!! lol
  21. Azul Fives has now found its way onto my current list of possible resorts so thanks for your review! Your dress is gorgeous! Who was the designer and was it cool to wear, or did you find it was hot? Your pics are great! Congrats!
  22. Wherever you bought your dress from should have the cups and their alterations department should be able to sew them in for you. I was asked my bra size and the cups are approximate - not exactly like a bra but the support was fine in my dress. They didn't show at all and super comfortable. Plus it meant I didn't have the added layer done up in the back that would make me sweat. It worked great. Just something for you to look into maybe.
  23. You've definitely come to the right place for information! This site is great for anyone on a DW planning journey, and congrats on the engagement! I would highly recommend getting a travel agent. You don't say if you're in the US or Canada. The owners of this site are DW specialists if you're in the US and if you're in Canada, there are several TAs here that ladies would recommend. As well, I would suggest you look through the resort reviews and see what past brides have to say about their experiences. Look online and see what there is in the area you want to go. Then sit down with your travel agent. They're the professionals as far as helping you with a resort that will fit what you're looking for in terms of what it offers, your costs and the various packages for weddings/vow renewals. Then you'll need to work with the resort for your details. A word of warning - most resorts will do an initial acknowledgement of your date request and get you setup for payments, then you won't hear too much from them until just a few months before your wedding. They do this for a living and the resorts are generally busy with weddings that are closer than yours, so they will get to your date as it gets closer and they need to confirm details. A lot of brides have a tough time with this and you'll see it time and again posted here. But they are professionals and it's quite surprising how quickly they can finalize the details of your big event! Once you finalize the where, find the forums here for that resort and get to know the other brides that are planning their events too. I can guarantee that whatever questions you have, they have likely already been asked and answered so reading through the forums will go a long way to helping you with information! Good luck and happy planning!
  24. I like the idea of the nude heels and I would think given the fashion of now, most ladies will have a pair of nudes. I have 2 but I'm a shoe freak! lol Definitely it's something that will work in a wardrobe so maybe you could offer to help with the cost if anyone has a problem, or if they don't already have a pair? The havaianas are fabulous. I have 3 pairs (like I said, shoe freak!) and they are super comfortable. Definitely will work in the sand but I do agree that some nice heels in pics would look good.
  25. If you're in Canada you could definitely have your legal wedding here before going to the DR. A lot of couples do that just to avoid the worry of translating documents and having them notarized, etc. And as TA Kathy said, then you wouldn't have the concern of trying to do your legal wedding in the DR. Good luck!
