  1. Definitely gorgeous! Beautiful choice! I'm short in the torso too but I have no idea what I want. I love the open back!
  2. wow you look totally amazing!!! can't wait to read the whole review. looks like everything went great!
  3. I'm really sorry you're dealing with all of this. It's definitely a common thread on here of couples that get put in this position because they're having a destination wedding. It's too bad but I've said this before - nothing brings out family squabbles like weddings and funerals. You also have the French Canadian mentality to deal with on top of that! I lived in PQ for 3 years and until you live it, you don't understand it. It's much more than just a family dynamic. It's like possession is 9/10ths of the family! If you step out of the "norm" then you're immediately in trouble. I met so many Quebecers that have never, ever left the province! And to even think of doing that is almost sacrilegious! It's QUEBEC after all!! Why would you want to go anywhere else?? And for the ones that are willing to go someplace else, well then its Old Orchard Beach in Maine. you can't get near that place in the summer unless you book a minimum of 6 months or more in advance because it's full of les quebecois!! Then if you get the REALLY adventurous ones it's Cuba. And that trip is a major undertaking! I don't remember if you said anything about FIs family being travellers or not but if they aren't, there is no way on god's green earth you're going to get them to attend your wedding (unless you move it to Cuba!) I spend 15 years working for the federal government in Ottawa - I used to camp up near petawawa - and I never met so many close minded people as I did French Canadians. I could never figure out why. Oh yes - and a huge number of them go into the military!! You have my sympathies for sure. You've got an interesting road ahead of you. The important thing to remember - and I've said this many times too - is that you need to figure out what's important to the two of you. Your wedding is supposed to be about you but there are people that would never even consider it unless their entire family is there, but that's what is important to them. You two need to figure that out. We had everyone cancel out on us so we went just the two of us and got married on the beach in Jamaica. That's the super short version. It's a little more than that. But the thing is, it's what we wanted and I had to be reminded of that. Now it's the family that missed out on a wonderful opportunity to have a special vacation and a chance to have a good time and make some good memories. Their loss! Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!
  4. I would look at a US credit card. I know BMO has a US mastercard. There are no exchange rates with it because it's all in US dollars. Your statement is in US currency. You would only worry about the exchange when you pay it off. I think most of the banks have one so you could shop around. Some have the combination US account and credit card. I have a US dollar bank account and I get an exchange rate just a bit better than what's on the street. It's not a lot but every little bit helps considering the amount of time we spend in the US. The thing is the pundits are saying that the dollar is going to stay low now because of oil prices (which is a load of garbage but whatever) so it may just be that we have to "suck it up". When I tally it all and add 13% tax on everything I do here, since we're gong to the US anyway or Mexico as the case may be, it's still an overall savings even with the exchange.
  5. I wouldn't bother at all. My dress was very similar to yours and I took it to Jamaica. Hubs and I were in the same room so I couldn't even open the dress bag to air it out until the morning of but there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. I hung it in the bathroom when I showered in the morning and it worked great. It was chiffon as well and there was hardly a wrinkle. Davids steamed it with the alterations and I picked it up a week before we left, it was in the bag the entire time plus it got put into an overhead bin, slung over my arm through the airport and a whole bunch of other stuff. But day of the wedding it was fine. Even the train. And with the humidity in the air, I'm sure that helped too. I bought a portable steamer at Walmart in the US for about 20 bucks and took that with me just in case for both his shirt and my dress and it never even made it out of the box. If your alterations place will do a light steam, that should be enough. If you want to be absolutely certain, if you can hang it somewhere until you leave, out of the bag, then pack it and then open it up somewhere when you arrive in Mexico, and let it hang, then maybe the day before in a steamy bathroom, I would lay dollars to donuts you won't have anything to worry about. Save the $200.
  6. I'm going to go out the opposite way from the other ladies. Life is too short for this kind of upset from people especially when you're trying to plan what will hopefully be a happy and special day for you. You can hit your head against a brick wall only so many times before you get a serious headache and realize you won't knock the wall down. If the effort has already been too one sided on your part and it's bothering you, leave it alone and be done with it. I wouldn't bother with an invite. If she is at all interested in maintaining the friendship you'll hear from her. If not, count it as a life experience and move on. This process really lets you find out who your true friends are and sometimes it's difficult. Good luck!
  7. They were really popular on here for a while - about 2 years back but I haven't seen anything about them for quite some time. Good luck!
  8. Ok. Help! Who did them for you? How was the cost - expensive or not so bad? I really want to do the boarding passes but I'm not a DIYer either. I would love any info you're willing to share!!! They turned out totally awesome!!!!!
  9. They look great!! You did it yourself? If so, what did you use? What computer program? I really want to do something like this, but anytime I pick a "template" and play around with it, it looks god awful!! And I love your colours!!!
  10. eeek the day is almost here!! I hope things went well with the legal ceremony and you're probably in the warm sunshine now getting ready for your wedding! So can't wait to hear all about it!!
  11. calgarybride2015 is absolutely right. Wright travel are highly recommended here. I haven't seen a single bad review and the agents are always stopping in the various forums with comments and suggestions as well as their own reviews of places they have actually visited. If u you are US based absolutely get in touch with them. There is a contact form right on the site. They can work with Canadian brides but don't have the relationships that Canadian TAs have and our tour packages are structured a bit differently. Good luck and I'm sure Wright will be able to help you out with information.
  12. It looks great!! and yes vic secret has some awesome solutions for no seams and no show!! Your thread really has come together and everything looks great! Looking forward to the after report and of course pictures!!
  13. Congratulations! The first is always the most special. They all are of course.... but there's just something about having your first! You'll have to keep news posted as you go. All the best!
  14. Sorry that you're going through this. I think almost everyone here trying to do a DW has some kind of story about trying to get people to attend. It's a difficult situation to be in. Not everyone is a traveller and there are still a lot of people that don't understand about destination weddings, or why couples actually have them. It's sad for your fiance that his parents wont' attend. We had everyone back out on us for our wedding and it did cause problems but I was reminded by the love of my life that it was what we wanted and for everyone that had backed out, they were the ones missing out on a very special family vacation. We're much older, our children are grown and we have grandchildren plus it was second time around for both of us, but it didn't make it any less hurtful. We went to Jamaica and had a wonderful wedding and I married the most special man in the world. We had a reception at home 2 weeks later and the family were there for that. It wasn't the same of course, but it's the two of you that count the most. You need to think about what is really important to the both of you and go from there. But I agree with TAKathy. Don't carry it forward into the life that the two of you are starting together. There may be things going on behind the scenes that the two of you aren't aware of. Parents absolutely do not tell their children everything. Definitely if you think offering to help pay will make a difference then make the offer. As far as the father, you could definitely explain that having all the family together for a week of vacation would give everyone wonderful memories and that it isn't so much as the wedding as having everyone together. In the end you may need to just accept that it's the decision the parents have made and there isn't anything you can do. Good luck!
  15. Gee I don't have a picture of the shoes that I wore 3 years ago... and I have absolutely no idea what I want to wear next year!
  16. Don't you hate that!! What's wrong with visa here compared to visa in the US? We've had so many issues with that over the years. We actually drove to Niagara Falls one day to go to toysrus to get a gift card to go online and buy a highchair and pack and play when my grandson was born just because we couldn't use a Canadian credit card to have it delivered to them in Pennsylvania. it's really stupid sometimes.
  17. Yeah that's the same for us. We love to do the a la cartes for dinner and that usually means dress code, which is long pants and a collared shirt for guys, which is perfectly ok by me. It's nice to dress up a little even if you're on vacay. Even when we have the trailer out in summer for a week we try and take one night that we get out of the shorts and Ts and into something decent to go out to eat. But I also agree that it's whatever is working for you and what you want. I just realize how OLD I am!! lol
  18. I took a look. Nice site and they have a good selection. Thanks for passing on the tip!
  19. Some of this makes me feel so old! lol I just can't envision anyone in shorts for a wedding, beach or not. Believe me when I say that is just my own personal opinion!! Absolutely nothing against anything anyone else is doing!! For me, I would ask for long pants and a nice short sleeved shirt, either golf or button down (my hubby looks so darned sexy in a golf shirt!) and I would expect a nice summer dress for ladies.
  20. Oh my gosh! How do you do it? It sounds like you're non stop! lol But it sounds like you have it all well in hand. I'm so looking forward to hearing all about it when you come back! Your wedding band is absolutely gorgeous!! I love the pavé style. How are the eyelashes working out?
  21. The ladies have it correct! Wright Travel are dw specialists and I'm sure they'll be able to provide you with information that will help you make good decisions! Here's the link to contact them: http://www.wrighttravelagency.com/go/plan-your-destination-wedding?keyword=BDWTB Good luck!
  22. Where are you getting married? Try looking for music related to the country. If it's Mexico, then search Mexican songs, or Jamaican music if that's where it is. There are some great ones out there! Enjoy!
  23. Shared. I think it's kind of cool and with all of the brides past and present that are here..... who knows? Good luck. Please share if you get a response.
