There's another side to this as well. Are you going to pay the dollar cost between double and single? Something else to think about. If you invite someone and don't include a +1 you're also asking them to pay more than everyone else. Not everyone wants to be "doubled up" with someone they don't know just because they're a single that wasn't allowed to bring a "buddy".

Thanks Allie. Yes - I sent the coordinator an email as soon as I realized they had it wrong which was within 5 minutes of them sending the confirmation, and I just called and waited, then got sent to voicemail. Now I'm worried that the reservation will expire before they get it fixed. This is a deal breaker. I'm not going to put down money until they confirm to me that they have the location right. I don't want the garden. I would look at the Zky Terrace if they tell me the pier isn't available now (which it was when I did our form) but that's the only two. I'm not going to pay $1700 for the Sky Deck for 6 or 8 people and the garden is a no go. Hopefully they'll get it sorted but if not then I'll just go looking for somewhere else. I'll tell you, things are not off to a great start. Between finding out about the tour operator and getting the requested location wrong.....

You could also take a look through the vendor reviews on this site for some ideas and see what past brides have said.

Grand Solmar Wedding Construction Help!
acw271011 replied to CChef5678's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
Have you contacted your travel agent to help you out with this? That would be your best first point of contact. If there any possibility of changing your venue? I would definitely say it's misrepresentation, but things work so differently in Mexico. Do you have the communication assuring you that everything would be ready in time for your wedding? Sorry you're going through all of this. Weddings are stressful enough without having extras like this added to the mix. Good luck! -
I don't know how much help I can be since I just put in the request for us and they got it wrong. But my understanding is if you have a certain number of room nights and you're in the US you get the basic forever package for free. Canadians don't get it. All of the other packages cost. Big time. $3000+ from what I've read. Is your travel agent a GI certified agent? That makes a difference. You can look for a GI certified agent right on the AF website. They seem to have better access to the perks. I don't know about a DJ being included. Everything I've heard is that you have to pay extra for everything. If you're in the US you don't have to go any further than this site. Wright Travel is affiliated with this site and are destination wedding specialists, and are GI certified agents for Karisma properties. There is a link page here to get in touch with them. If you're in canada, like I said you can find an agent right from the AF site. Hope that helps. I know some of the other ladies will chime in with info that they have.

Show us your wedding dress!

ooo I love the maggie sottero. is that brittney? -
Thanks. Our plan is to renew our vows in October so 9 months away. I thought we had our resort finalized but there is a hiccup now that I'm not sure how we'll get round it. We won't have a group rate since there won't be enough of us. Unless of course there is a way to have the same agent book everyone. On both sides of the pond!

Well things are off to a dandy start! I got my confirmation finally a little while ago for AF and the location is wrong! I specifically picked the pier and they come back with the garden. uh nope. wrong. so I emailed back and said fix it. Then I just talked to the TA I've been dealing with and yes, Transit has signed an exclusive contract with AF so nobody else will get to go. and since it's low season in October they likely will not add any other travel dates beyond the Saturday and Sunday they have now. just great. so now decisions to make and I'm not happy about making them

Hi Would you be willing to pass on the details? I think we may be in the same boat so it might prove useful for me as well. Thanks!

What ticks me off is I picked the resort based on what I was reading when I pulled up October. Everyone was going - Westjet, Sunwing & Transat. It's in Sunwing's book too. Then all of a sudden I'm looking for days and all I get is saturday and sunday. At this point I don't know what to do. These people own their own business and wanted to be away only one weekend. If they saturday it means they're away 2 of their busiest days, friday being the other one. I feel so bad now because we saw them on the weekend and they got all excited about the resort and how gorgeous it is. I'm just not sure what to do. The other alternative was Paradisus La Perla and it's quite a bit more expensive. We don't qualify for a group rate because we're only between 6 and 10, and four might be coming from the UK so they're on totally different arrangements. I have no way of knowing how much rates will drop so have no way of advising anyone on what rates might end up being.

Absolutely go with a travel agent! It takes so much of the stress off of you! It gives you someone to direct your guests to with questions and also someone that is available when you can't be. And you can't get a better agent than the ones right here!! Wright Travel have all kinds of awards and have access to information on perks you might be eligible for depending on your guest numbers and which resort you actually book with. But you don't know until you ask!! I've seen nothing but good reviews of them since I started on this site. Good luck and happy planning!

We're Booked!
acw271011 replied to pykx82's topic in Destination Weddings in Puerto Vallarta & surrounding areas
Congrats on choosing your resort! Only a year to go and you'll have lots to keep you busy during that time. The ladies here are great at passing on tips and suggestions and you'll find a ton of support here! Happy planning! -
Well I put my application in with our date and the site we want last week, and haven't heard from anyone since. The bounce back says you'll hear from someone within 48 business hours. I suppose that could be counted as 2 weeks? if you think about it as 7 or 8 hours is a business day, that's 6 to 7 business days. Guess I should just sit tight.... The problem is..... all of a sudden all of the tour companies have pulled out of Azul Fives except for Transat in October. And Transat is only going Saturday and Sunday. Which now creates a problem. We have friends that want to leave on a Wednesday or Thursday and now all of a sudden I have no departure day for them. I really thought we had found our resort..... finally. Now I'm not so sure.

Show us your wedding dress!
acw271011 replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Oh that is so pretty! It isn't too much for a beach. there are no rules. Whatever you're comfortable in is what works! And if you love it, then it's for you! -
This situation keeps coming up with a lot of brides here going through the same thing. It's difficult for sure. People love weddings because they get beautiful surroundings and a meal that they don't have to pay for! That may be oversimplifying but that's what it is. When it comes to a DW, unless it's something that fits with other people's plans, or they're super close to you, it's tough to get people to go. I can definitely sympathize. Been there, done that and ended up being just my husband and I. You need to keep holding on to the fact that you're marrying the man you love in a beautiful setting. The people that do show up are the ones that you know care a lot about you. Having a DW is a difficult decision but people not attending is part of the deal. It's not a direct reflection on you. It's just that your wedding isn't as important to them as it is to you. It will all work out in the end and you'll have a beautiful wedding!

Does Kleinfeld Raise Prices
acw271011 replied to TheBHolders's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I agree with @@TAkathy. It wouldn't surprise me if the prices are a little overinflated. You could always go just for the experience, but I don't know if you want to buy your dress there! lol Do they even sell Maggie Sottero? I would think a lower priced line like that - compared to the Pninas - wouldn't be up to their standards! You never see someone on tv buy a Maggie! lol -
Congrats! You've made a great choice for resort! That's where I got married in 2011. We love the resort and loved Jamaica. I know there are a few things that have changed since we were there. The coordinators are gone and the section we stayed at has now been renamed to Don Pablo and they've put the price up. Not sure why. We were on the 7th floor and had a fabulous view of the water. We actually saw the cruise ships coming into to Ocho Rios. There was another bride that got married 2 days before us and they were over in the other section and she didn't like it at all. It's quite a bit older from what I understand. Are you getting married in the gazebo? One thing, there is quite a breeze down there so make sure there is extra spray in your hair! We were supposed to have our dinner in The Grill but the floor was being replaced so they put us into one of the buffet restaurants instead. A lot of ladies rent out The Pisces which is the open air restaurant right down on the water. It used to be $1700 to rent out the whole restaurant but likely the rates have changed now. I also hear they've instituted an outside vendor fee for photographers, etc. of $800. Hair and makeup the girls will recommend Rashel Edwards. She has a facebook page which I can look for if you want it. All the girls say she is fantastic but you need to book her early because she is in demand. We used Merrick Cousley for our photos. His work is beautiful and he's very responsive to emails. You'll get quite a few recommendations for photographers - I found Jamaica just a bit higher in price than Mexico. Marcia Roberts is popular as is Misha Earle, and both have websites. If you do a search up top in the forums section several will come up that you can take a read through and see what past brides have to say. Good luck and happy planning!

The best way I think is to get family involved to help. We're a lot older than most of the couples here, had both been married and together for 10 years when we got married. Hubby's parents were the ones that put the word out even though we said no gifts. I had almost figured we were ok and people were going along with the request then at our AHR we had a whack of cards with money gifts. Even from our kids. I was quite surprised. But having parents or siblings help with what you do want is probably the most polite way.
