Now Laminar Foam Parties
acw271011 replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Ok. I have to ask. (I've led a very sheltered life lol) What IS a foam party????? -
Oh my goodness - sorry to hear about what happened! Make sure to take care of yourself! Burns are nothing to fool around with. It all needs to be kept very clean. As @@candle23 said, your Costco membership is good anywhere in the world. I tried to find out about fresh flowers but couldn't get an answer. Now apparently there is also a Sam's Club in PDC. We have a membership since we spend so much time in the US. BUT if you're Canadian, you can get a single day pass for free to shop there since there are no Sam's Club stores in Canada. While I was digging around I did find something that says Mega sells fresh flowers. They're located on 30th Ave.

Leaving On Saturday!

Good luck tomorrow! Happy flying! -
That's the style I want to do as well. I ordered the veil but won't see it until Easter. It's not a long one - just to elbows, maybe a touch shorter. I definitely want to look into the weights. We're going to be up on a rooftop terrace so if I actually decide to wear the veil, I don't want it blowing around. I love that hairstyle and the hair piece too! Gorgeous!

Well some things are finally coming together. Azul Fives is out. We're back at Grand Coral Beach Club, booked and confirmed. Yay!! We're going to be up on the rooftop terrace overlooking the water. I'm in the process now of deciding on a gazebo to set up, and figuring out flowers. This is what I've found that I think I'm going with, except I'm going to add fuschia pink flowers to it half way up each side: Doug is going to be wearing a turquoise vest and tie, and my flowers are going to be fuschia so I want to keep the colour theme. I'm thinking turquoise sashes - a couple for Grand Coral then a couple for the restaurant. Then I'm thinking pink in a table centerpiece. I've picked out bags, but again I only need a couple and I know what's going in them but I'm not going to worry about all that stuff for a while yet until we know absolutely who is going with us. So I think I'm done! lol

Anyone Else Having Family Drama!?!?

Well said! I'm with you and have been there done that. There's a certain calm I think that comes with age and a second time around. Good luck! -
Anyone Else Having Family Drama!?!?
acw271011 replied to pddcmc's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I think you've done what you can, now you need to let things be. Families are what families are and lots of times they aren't any fun. You've made your case and are sticking to your guns. Now the ball is in their court. Try not to stress about things you might not be able to control. When it comes right down to it, people usually will behave and get along for a wedding so I think you're ok on that score. Try and take some de-stress time if you can before you go. Even if it's just a whole day's breather from wedding stuff. I would pester the bridal salon though until they fix your dress properly. That's something that is within your control so I would go with that. In the end, it's you and FI that are the two most important people in all of this. You're marrying the man you love in a tropical paradise. It will all turn out just fine! Honest! -

I LOVE the flower!! That's so pretty!! And the earrings are gorgeous!! I have a question, and it's just the luck of the draw that you're the one I'm asking (lol sorry) but isn't anyone afraid of burning their feet on the sand by wearing the barefoot sandals? I know that's a dumb question but I just had to ask...... You're getting really close now! -
Dreams Palm Beach 2015 Wedding
acw271011 replied to Debora's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Congrats! And most definitely there are a lot of brides here having a weekend DW. In fact 2 ladies just got married last Saturday in Mexico. it depends on whether they're having just a weekend event, or turning it into a whole week's vacation. Good luck! -
You've already received some of the best advice for sure! Congrats on your engagement and welcome to BDW! You will most definitely find a ton of useful information here from both past and present brides. I would highly recommend that you spend some time reading through the different forums and absolutely read the resort reviews. I wouldn't base your decision solely on that, but it will at least give you an idea of what's out there. Then most definitely consult a travel agent. A good agent will take so much stress off your shoulders, especially once your guests start to book and have questions of their own. Since you're Canadian, things work a little differently. You'll see that as you get more familiar with the site. The ladies in the US most of the time do their hotel and air separately. The all inclusives that are available in Canada aren't as common in the US. That being said, there have been a couple of recommendations on travel agents here on the site if you care to ask. Picking your location is probably the toughest thing simply because there is so much choice out there! Get a few ideas in mind on what you would like, what you would like for your guests, an approximate budget that you would like to stay at for your guests travel and then talk to an agent. They will help you figure out how to put all of that together and come up with a location that you're happy with. Then you'll have to figure out the time of year that you want, unless you already have. Obviously the winter months will be your most expensive - everyone wants to get away from a Canadian winter!! If you can be prepared to be flexible, that should work in your favour especially when it comes to your pricing. Good luck and happy planning!

Very well said! And I completely agree!

Not at all. It's just as if you were wearing a bra with the dress so just provides shape and support. they're thin just like bra cups and they stitch them right into your dress

I didn't change my name when Doug and I got married. After coming out of a long very nasty marriage, I went back to my maiden name. I had been under someone else's thumb for so long it was like I needed to get back to point A. I spent 16 weeks in a program for women in abusive situations and realized that I needed to find me again. I didn't start to date for more than a year after the ex and I split but it took that long for me to be comfortable in my own skin again. I had to go back to liking being me. Believe me ladies, it's a lot of work. I think Doug might have been just a little disappointed, and I might still at some point change it. But even after as many years as we've been together (14 now) there is still the fear that something will go wrong so in some ways I think keeping my name is also a form of self protection lol On top of that his last name is dutch and hard to pronounce so it's also easier to stick with mine!

Leaving On Saturday!

But you get to be a Mrs afterwards!! That's the fun part!! -
We've tried a couple of times to get back to Jamaica, firstly for our first anniversary, and for health reasons it hasn't worked out. Like it just wasn't meant to be. So...... since I made it through it all we're renewing our vows in Mexico! But I do miss Jamaica. We'll get back there sometime. Lady Hamilton was our other resort. I got it narrowed down then passed it to hubby (to be at that time) and said pick, and he picked GBPJ. Absolutely no complaints at all but I've heard that everyone that was so fabulous there when e got married have all left. And the section where we stayed is now an "upgrade" and you have to pay extra for it.

What about sewing cups into your dress? That's what I had done to mine, and what I'm having done again. The back of mine is completely sheer so a bra won't work with it.

I would say you guys are cake lovers! And Jamaica will be fabulous. We loved it and totally fell in love with the people in Jamaica. We were married at Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica in Runaway Bay. Great resort!
