Dress Advice
acw271011 replied to GingerBride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
It's gorgeous!! And absolutely not too full! You should see mine! lol Positively with the belt. It adds the necessary bling!! Oh yes - who is the designer by the way?? It really is pretty. -
Congrats and welcome to the site! Costa Rica is next on our list to visit and is one of the 3 we're looking at to retire to! Wow - you're date is really close! Which resort have you picked? Is it just the two of you, or do you have anyone going with you? You've definitely come to the right place as far as ideas and tips and suggestions. And the ladies here are more than willing to share. Have you looked through the different reviews that are available? There are resorts and vendors both so might be worth a look. The other thing you can do is just key in Costa Rica in the search bar and you should get several different things comes up that might be worth reading. Good luck and happy planning!!

Ladies - I need some advice please. So I ordered the key card holders and I would swear I asked about a clear pouch but....... somewhere along the way it ended up being blue. Well I picked them up from my son over the weekend and I really don't know what to do. I had my little key cards made: keycard insert for zipper pouch.ppt But the blue of the pouch is so dark that when I put the card inside, it disappears. You can't read it. You can barely even see it!! Just NOT what I wanted at all. I know I can't send them back but I really don't know if I want to even use them. So - put up and shut up? Or find something else so that I can use my nifty little cards that I worked so hard at making???? Help!!

I couldn't have said it any better! That's very similar to what we did except that of course we didn't have anyone in Jamaica so I left that bit out. But all the rest we did - pictures and absolutely personalize to what you received from the giver. And if they were in Mexico with you definitely a thank you for that.

I like that! Which seller did you use? I've been debating on one of the wire ones but I almost like this one better especially if they have a darker wood available. -

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the site! As you can see, everyone is more than willing to pass along tips and ideas as well as suggestions to help you out on your planning journey. Definitely take Tammy up on her offer to help you out with pros and cons. A TA is the best person to get you kick started on what you want, what you want for your guests and what will all work with your budget. Good luck and happy planning!

Oh my god I loved that movie!!!! Cuz I swore that there was no way I would put my boys through things that bad! Please know I wasn't trying to criticize. She definitely sounds like the MIL from you know where and I can absolutely with full honesty say I have NOT been that bad although there are times...... lol But that's another story. By all means if you and hubby are on the same page and you have his full support that is as it should be and his mom will just have to get on with life. tell her from me there is positively life after children and it can be one heck of a good one!!! Good luck to both of you. Sounds like you're well on you way to handling in the way that works for you both and that's what counts. But don't let it get to you. She will find out that what goes around comes around and sooner or later it will come back to her. Hugs!

Hope you had a wonderful wedding! Can't wait to hear how it went! -
I think Tai can handle those no problem. But just for the heck of it, try Jan's too and see what they offer you.

Congrats and welcome! Have you looked through any of the the reviews here? I'm not familiar with the Bahamas at all. I've seen one or two brides here with locations there but not familiar with yours. Do you have a travel agent yet? I would say that would be your best first starting point. There is a good one connected to this site that may be able to help you with information - Wright Travel. Plus take a look through the reviews and see if there is anything there that might be useful. Good luck and happy planning!

I looked at them and I didn't like what I was hearing from them. First I found their prices higher and then when I really didn't want to ship to within Mexico they wanted like $100 or some ridiculous amount for shipping to the US. When I tried to get just tags from them, which can just go in the mail, they wanted about $2 per tag, plus about $20 to put them in the mail. It just struck me as a money grab and that made me nervous. Have you looked at Amols? Their pricing is much better and I think you'll get a much better reviews here from other brides. That's just my opinion. Good luck!

Sweetie - you married her son. For some moms, doesn't matter who it is, nothing will ever be good enough. It might just mean finding a happy medium somewhere along the way. There is one thing that I do want to say. Just a little piece of advice from an old lady. Try not to put your husband in the middle. You're his wife and she is his mother and it's a tough situation to be in. I know because I've been on the mother in law end of things. Pick your battles if you can, and try and understand how all of this might be making your husband feel. She just might be really jealous of you because you won her son's heart and that's sometimes a tough thing for some mom's to accept. I really can sympathize. You might never have any kind of easy relationship with his mom. Or it might just take a bit of time now that you're married. I can understand how frustrating it feels when it doesn't seem like you can do anything right for her, but usually there is something behind it, whether she never thought he would actually leave her, or she's lonely. Tough to know. She just might be the type of MIL that is going to be a royal pain in your behind for your entire married life!! lol If that's the case, heaven forbid, you and hubby will need to talk a lot about it and find a way that you both can cope. Good luck!! When I read some of the things you ladies post here it really makes me stop and think sometimes. I have married kids so yes I'm a MIL and believe me, there are times I KNOW I've been the MIL from the hot place! lol It's a tough spot to be in. These chicks came along and took my boys away. I got grandkids out of the deal but I don't see or hear from my boys the way I did before. It's hard. Hang in there. Sooner or later, we do come around!

Is it a florist that you're looking for? We used Tai Flora out of Ocho Rios for our wedding. A lot of the other brides at Gran Bahia used Jan's. I found them pretty close to the same depending on what you were looking for. I was totally and completely happy with Tai Flora for what we needed, which wasn't a whole lot. I also think Tai has a Mobay store.

Avoiding Foreign Transaction Fees
acw271011 replied to smileitseb's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
There's western union but if they don't take wires that doesn't help. Paypal the fee is about 4% which isn't too bad. What about travelers checks from another bank? Not sure that you have to actually be a customer to get travelers checks. You could always pay for them by credit card, then just pay off your credit card from your own bank. I'm running into the same thing and had to pay for Grand Coral with a bank wire transfer to their bank account in Florida. Cost me quite a bit and we're already paying a tough exchange rate on the Canadian dollar. -
Holly Dunn's "Daddy's Hands" is a good two step song, and the words always bring me to tears! lol (I'm just a sap)
