  1. I've never heard of an "accommodation card" before. Maybe one of the other ladies here can chime in with info that will help you out. Congrats!
  2. I love the dress! Wow! I'm not sure which is my favourite - I like all of them!! You make it look so easy! But I can see where it would be body flattering for just about any body type! That's an interesting colour too and I agree it seems to look more green than what I would consider teal. Just a quick word of warning. I didn't see anyone here mention it but Mexico has rules about taking sand from the beach. With the hurricanes they get and beach erosion, it has become sort of a protected deal. If you're filling vases someone might see you and I would hate for you to get your heart set on something and then have someone ruin it all for you. Why don't you email your coordinator and ask her about it. It sucks to have to cart sand with you but that may be the only way to do it unless your WC can help you out somehow. Not sure how far you are from playa del carmen but there's a big Walmart there that might sell the coloured sand that you might be able to make use of instead. Good luck!!
  3. Well we're only going to be 6 like I said so I'm just not sure about dancing. I would love to! But can you do that with such a small group? I definitely want to have music going at the restaurant since our area is pretty much all for us and nobody else. I need to check with Joyce and find out what the restaurant policy is. Joyce has already said we're fine with taxis to and from. I wondered about hiring something, either a van or whatever but Joyce has said not to bother. If we could get our resort finalized I'm still hoping I can get day passes for Styling Trio and the photographer and see if we can have them come to the resort instead of the running back and forth. Playa is 20 minutes from the resort we're all in favour of so it will mean 4 trips on the day of the ceremony - in for hair/makeup, back to resort, get ready then back to Playa again to Grand Coral then back to the resort at night after dinner. We also want to go clubbing after we're done at the restaurant.
  4. It will all be fine I know it! You've done so much work on your DIY stuff and the details, it's going to be awesome! Just don't forget to take everything in. I'll say it again, you've done so much, just make sure you breathe and relax a bit to enjoy it!!!
  5. The dress is absolutely stunning and you have a big smile on your face so to me that says "get it"! I'm looking at something very slightly similar but only because we're not on the beach either. I say go for it!! You ladies always make me smile! lol Mine are just simply what I call thunder thighs. I really like the idea of an ice pack!! Definitely going to file that one away for future use....
  6. I've sort of neglected a lot of stuff over the last month mostly due to the very long hours I've been working pretty much since the beginning of March. Things have at last settled down but it's weird - I think because I was running on adrenaline for so long now I'm exhausted! Comes with getting old too! lol I'm just not up to doing 60 hour weeks anymore. We have pretty much all of our big things done so now I want to start on the little things. I'm going to get a few chair sashes and decor type things to take with us. Thankfully I only need a couple so we won't be taking large numbers of things. As it is I think we're going to be 6. That seems to be the final number. And after having dinner with our friends last weekend it looks like we're narrowed down to two resorts. Azul Fives is completely off the table now. We've all agreed - if you're going to spend that kind of money, we should be able to have king size beds! So it will either be Platinum Yucatan Princess or Valentin Imperial, and we're all leaning towards Valentin. It just depends now on which of the two comes up with the best price for our travel dates. Even our travel agent says its one of his favourite resorts in the RM. It's further from Playa than I want since all of our stuff is there, but we'll just do the travel back and forth. The resort has been our biggest struggle. The second has been a dress. After having to change the one I wanted because hubby asked me to try and bring the cost down, I've bounced around with styles. It's hard when you get set on one dress to change it up for something else. So I'm asking for opinions again. I'm really working at narrowing down what I want and I've even decided now that I can go strapless and just purchase the shoulder piece to attach since I want my shoulders covered. I'm working with three and I would love if you ladies would let me know what you think. This is the first and I really love it. This is the second. This is the last one but I'm really on the fence about this one. I even found blue shoes that I really like. Has anyone ever dealt with Zappos? I looked at the ratings for these. I've never bought shoes online just because I have a hard time getting shoes to fit comfortably. So our location is completely final with an arch, flowers are done, cake is done, minister is done, dinner location is done, photographer is done, video I think is done (just a short 30 min one). Am I missing something?
  7. Happy flying and have a wonderful wedding week!! Looking forward to seeing pics and hoping it's all everything you've ever dreamed of!
  8. Congrats and welcome to the site! There will be no shortage of suggestions and ideas here, but the very first thing I would recommend is to find a good travel agent! They will help you with all of your questions and help you figure out 1) what you really want, 2) what you really don't want, 3) what your price point is for your guests to pay, 4) your budget overall. There are so many factors that will come into play that talking to a professional is a good place to start. Mexico and Dominican Republic are I think maybe the most popular with the ladies here along with Jamaica. Obviously there a lots of other places too but I think those might be the top 3 for the ladies here. You also need to consider where you're flying from - the US or Canada - as the packages are structured a little differently, but again a travel agent will help you out with all of that. If you're located in the US the administrators of this site are destination wedding professionals. They would be able to help you review what you're looking for and help with ideas. They can also be the "go to" for your guests so that their questions get answered and keep the stress from you. Here's the link to contact them. https://www.wrighttravelagency.com/go/destination-wedding?lp-variation-id=0&title=Planning%20a%20Destination%20Wedding?&source=BDW&creative=WTA%20TB If you're in canada I know the ladies here will have different recommendations on travel agents. Good luck and happy planning!
  9. Could you tell me what the outside vendor fee was and also if they have day passes, what the cost is? Thanks!
  10. Congrats on being a Mrs! Hope the honeymoon was wonderful! Just curious about the bride hanger price? Are you in the US or Canada? (I have an address for both) Thanks.
  11. We did our AHR exactly 2 weeks after we arrived home from Jamaica, but we didn't have anyone at our wedding so we did invite everyone that had been originally invited. We're quite a bit older with grown kids and grandkids and elderly parents so our group was only 30 people. We had it in a private room of a restaurant over looking a lake with one wall that is floor to ceiling windows so not much was needed in the way of decorations. I have a friend that does decorating for weddings and she just brought some lights, similar to Christmas lights, that she uses and another friend made the centerpieces as a gift. That was pretty much it. We didn't have draping or anything - it was too informal for all of that and I think a lot of times it can get a bit over the top. We wanted just a fun night to get together with everyone, which is exactly what we had. Depending on the ceiling height, which thinking about a firehall is likely pretty high, anything from the ceiling might be a bit difficult. What about asking your bridesmaids if they could help? I think maybe some flowers might be nice. Something that keeps people's eyes at the lower level, instead of the natural inclination to look up which is what happens when you walk into a room with high ceilings. Anything along the walls again that keeps the eyes at a normal level. I think people are going to be so happy to congratulate you that they aren't going to be too worried about a lot of decorations. Eating and drinking, and maybe dancing? I think most people will be happy with that.
  12. That sounds ok to me. It gets everyone moving a bit before they have dinner, but after appetizers/salad. As much as we want to feed people, I think the party is the most important part of it all! lol But that's just me.... Gee - you're only a month away now! It's getting close!
  13. Thanks @@Moments That Matter. That's the same information I was going to pass on. It's something that has come up on the board a few times over the last couple of years that I've seen and it's something not a lot of the brides are aware of. I've heard that customs are clamping down as well so being more watchful.
  14. Wow! That's definitely a big "change" decision, but if it's what makes both of you happy, then it's a good decision! You're so right - destination weddings aren't the easiest things in the world to deal with. You can get so many "forces" involved that can pull you in several different directions at once. That's so sad about your little nephew. Positive thoughts and prayers for the little guy. My sister in law has done I think two trips to Thailand and she specifically mentioned Phuket. Apparently it is some of the most spectacular beach anywhere in the world. She's a flight attendant and I'm not sure of her schedule, but I'll try and get in touch with her and see if there is anywhere that she would recommend. That's where the huge tsunami was on the day after Christmas in 2004 but I've read that a very large part of it has rebuilt. It's a popular area with European tourists. It all sounds like the trip of a lifetime, and to tie your wedding in to it as well is fantastic! I hope you stay and keep us posted on the details as you work through them! And for something like this I would absolutely recommend getting a travel agent!!
  15. When we were looking at AF I put in a request also for the FB group. Never heard back from anyone. It doesn't matter now since we're at Grand Coral instead but it was frustrating not getting a response, not even "denied". @Racheldennis You're looking at two beautiful locations for sure! I wanted the pier very much and the system let me book it online but by the time I heard back from someone they told me it shouldn't have let me book the pier because it wasn't available and they tried to put me in the garden at 2:30 in the afternoon. Not happening. The ladies here that have AF booked will be a huge help to you as far as information once you do actually get booked. 2017 is still a long way off definitely but I think the dates book up quickly so my guess would be that as soon as you're able to book, go for it. Some places won't even let you book more than a year out, others will go at 18 months so it just depends on the location. Good luck and happy planning!!
  16. Wow! I'm absolutely stunned that someone would have the nerve to do something like that to you. I'm like Kim - I don't let things like that go. I would be livid! At least when our group just cancelled there wasn't anyone trying to stick us with a bill! I really hope Transat comes through for you somehow. That's just so awful. I wouldn't be able to look that person in the face without telling them what I think of them. I'm so jealous of your dancing!! lol I remember when Doug and I first met I tried to get him to go out dancing with me and i got a one liner - Doug doesn't dance. And he's absolutely right. He doesn't. I would LOVE to salsa! I love to dance period. lol I love my husband more than my own life but boy, I really wish he was a dancer! lol It sounds like you've got a super guy and you absolutely have to post a little vid of your first dance! Thanks for the update on the veil weights. I'm still thinking on a veil even though I bought one already. Not 100% sure I'm going to use it. I still don't have my dress finalized! lo But I'm going to look into the weights and see what I find! The props are totally adorable!! Really great idea!! I know the guest will love it!
  17. You should still do one! It's an interesting topic. We looked into getting legally married in Mexico but their divorce rules just made it too complicated for us with the extra cost of translating both sets of divorce papers, etc. so we decided on Jamaica instead. It was super, super easy to get legally married there. I know Mexico has very specific requirements for a legal wedding and a lot of people are scared off by the blood test rule too. I know it's because of our age, but we just wouldn't have even thought about doing a legal ceremony first, then a DW. My husband would have asked outright why we were even bothering with a dw since we were married!! lol
  18. @rachelia160 Just curious..... so how is the church handling your two dates? I'm not Catholic so don't know much about the church practices but do they have anything to say about the dates? The one thing I was curious about originally, more so when my stepson got married back in 2007, was whether the church would enforce the "legal" date and just allow the other date as a "renewal". But he ended up getting married in a park. There wasn't a church involved at all, and they were legally married by a JP so no minister involved at all, not even for the second wedding. They celebrate their October date as their wedding anniversary, not the March date. lol I know - I'm so old. I still have such an awkward time about it!
  19. Ahhhh.. ladies after my own heart! Drinks all around!! @snswedding2016 That sounds like an awesome idea!! Brilliant in fact! I could get to that location easily too if that works for everyone else. I'm at Queen and University so I could easily stumble... er I mean walk there. A rooftop patio sounds great too! With not living downtown I'm afraid I'm not great at suggestions for places to get to. There are a couple of places we've done work events but they all seem to be inside and not well lit (I have no idea why!) I'm absolutely open to suggestions!! hmmmm rooftop patio, munchies, drinks..... sounds like the best of a summertime Friday night to me!
  20. @yycbride2016 The lanterns seem to be a staple on this site!! lol I found out about them from @@Meandhim so I went to Ikea and got them, and now I see that so many others have the same great idea!! I actually just saw them last weekend somewhere, can't remember where, in turquoise so I think I'm going to go back and get what I need since it's one of the colours I'm using and just keep the white to use out on the deck table set instead. I completely love the turquoise! As to the bridesmaid issue, take your pick of threads to read through here. it's a common problem for sure. You wouldn't think that someone would want to spend more money than a great deal being offered, and that a deposit of $150 is no big deal. But none of us really and truly knows what someone else is going through and something that we may think is a no brainer and so easy may be really difficult for someone else in terms of money. I don't believe you'll ever get anyone, including best friends, that are 100% completely honest about money issues. It's something that a lot of people keep very private. If this person is really important to you for your wedding party, try and let her know that as much as you want her there, if it's something that is just too much of a hardship that you completely understand. Between trip expenses and wedding party costs, for some people it's really a lot of money and she just may want to spare your feelings by not telling you that it will be a tough cut for her and her other half. Good luck!
  21. @kellymiller I think it's just a similar situation to us in that being so much older than most of the brides here we don't quite understand the two wedding thing. This seems to be something new over the last few years and may have been instigated by Mexico having such a strict policy on getting legally married there, and some of the horror stories published on the news about weddings in the Dominican Republic not being legal. As I mentioned, for us there was just no question that whatever day we had our wedding was also the day that we actually got legally married and there would never have been the idea of a DW and a "legal" wedding. I think it's just older people that have a hard time understanding the idea of it, or perhaps also people with a very strong religious background where the church is quite involved in the wedding.
  22. Well it has to be a patio and somewhere with drinks!!! That's my only two conditions!! lol I'm on the University subway line and close to two streetcars (King and Queen) so I can pretty much get almost anywhere if downtown is the final decision.
