  1. Oh joint credit cards..... don't get me started. Please.... don't get me started! lol
  2. Hi @sarahop81 Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I agree with the other ladies. Try and exhaust all of your options before walking away from your deposit. Have you tried buying an international phone card and calling the resort if it's one that doesn't have an 800 number? Sometimes a phone call can sort everything out. I know it's frustrating when they take so long to reply. All of the ladies here go through it or have gone through it. Generally weddings don't become the high priority until just a couple of months before simply because of the volume of weddings they deal with. Having said that I would absolutely keep after them and tell them you're considering going elsewhere. Sometimes that will get someone's attention. From everything I've read over the years here, I don't ever remember any bride being able to have dancing and a DJ in an a la carte restaurant. Other venues within the resort yes, but not the a la cartes. Unless you've rented out the whole restaurant, they need to consider the other diners that will be using it. I'm sorry this is proving difficult for you. Planning can be stressful enough without having added stress. I went through a very similar situation and we've now gone to an outside venue but I argued back and forth with the resort and made a couple of phone calls before I walked away and it was still uncomfortable letting go of my deposit. Good luck! @@veryvalentine has made a lovely offer to you so definitely keep us updated on how you get on.
  3. Congrats Andy! I'm just noticing that you're from where my family are in the UK! Same town! Excellent pubs and pub grub!! I'm going to chime in with the other ladies and suggest maybe something that your bride could actually wear on your wedding day - either a special bracelet or a necklace of some sort. Then you could have it delivered to her wherever she's going to be so that she receives it right before the wedding along with a really mushy card! Women love that! And I'll agree with the other ladies as well - a lovely framed photo of the two of you, or something that she collects. All good ideas! Good luck in 2 weeks. Definitely stop back again after your wedding and post a photo or two!
  4. Congrats! Have you tried searching up top for the resort you're considering? Its definitely worth reading through the site to see if past brides have provided comments. You could also look through the resort reviews section to see if any past brides have written about their experience. Good luck and happy planning!
  5. Congrats on being a Mrs! Your dress is stunning and you were a gorgeous bride!!! Your pictures are beautiful. Very happy it all turned out the way you wanted. Thanks for your review!
  6. See our guys really don't know what good price shoppers we are!! I'm very happy with the deal I got on my dress, and the veil too whether I wear it or not. Even my shoes were only $60 plus the $5 for dyeing them. I understand that Doug wanted me to try to save on my dress since it isn't our wedding but you're both right - even if it was our wedding I could never justify spending more than $2000 for a dress, including taxes and alterations, which is what I was willing to do. But no more than that. Doug is the same - mr gadget guy so yes, he likes expensive things too. I tell him he's a brand snob but he doesn't believe me. I spent too many years of my marriage before I met Doug barely making ends meet so my kids made do with unbranded clothes and shoes. You do what you have to do to survive but it was something totally new for me when I met Doug that he would spend the kind of money that he does on things. He's gotten much tighter with money now since we're so close to retiring though!
  7. Yeah I know. Some of their shirts are really funky! You look at them and wonder who would wear them! I found a really nice camp shirt online in this beautiful Caribbean turquoise. I absolutely love it. Then I found another one that reminded me of the pink you get in sunsets and I love that one too but hubby put the kybosh on it. No pink. He likes to think he's a very manly man so won't wear pink! lol I mean Doug has a couple of the flower shirts - I call them hawaiian - and they look good on him. I really do like them for casual wear. A couple of them are silk. He wore one when we got married (his choice and toned down a bit). I like it on him but it wasn't really what I wanted him to wear. We go to do his suit next month for Mexico and my gut is just telling me he's going to fuss lol He's "oh yeah that's great" now but just wait..... lol You really did well in getting the guys dressed - both for style and price. I think they're going to look great!
  8. Oh I love Happy Feet!! Both of them!! lol I love Pink so her song from 2 is great! I have Frozen too and Doug just shakes his head when I watch it lol
  9. @vancouverpetunia Wow - you did do well!! Absolutely can't complain about those prices! Doug still has his sandals from when we got married and hardly wears them so that he can keep them "clean" (don't know what that's supposed to mean lol) so I figure he'll take those to Mexico. I suspect at least renewal wise he'll be in shoes then switch after. He's constantly in Havaianas that we got in Jamaica duty free in the airport and he loves them. He wore Tommy Bahama when we got married so yep - he definitely fits their regular sizes. He is quite broad in the shoulders and even though he's lost 25lbs he's like me - he's old. It gets harder to get skinny again when you get to our age. lol They may have changed their sizing now but I know they used to make a "slim fit". Maybe they aren't selling them anymore. I love their stuff, just not their prices.
  10. Those are absolutely stunning!! Congrats on a beautiful wedding and being a gorgeous bride!!
  11. Love the shoes!! I couldn't wear them lol but I love them! Why not get both?? It's your wedding after all! If it's in the budget,l spoil yourself!! Oh I like those too!! Nice and sparkly and they look comfy! You ladies are doing nothing for a certain somebody's shoe addiction..... (me)
  12. @perianjay I kind of agree with you even though it sucks that we can't accommodate everyone. So I'm good with the 14th if everyone else is.
  13. @@vancouverpetunia That's great! Sometimes parents can be reasonable..... although mine love to tell me how much I'm NOT!!! lol @calgarybride2015 No way! lol That's whacked! We have Nexus cards which means we pretty much sail through BUT it also means we're completely subject to random searches so we don't play around. It's not worth it. We stick to what we're allowed which is why I've been trying to work out how to get my dress home!! lol But I'll keep you in mind when I bring out maracas home in September!! lol I'm only bringing 12 back so wish me luck!! lol @@vancouverpetunia Love the outfits and glad you had a good time! I like the light blue shirt! Hope you did well on pricing. I'm sooooooo looking forward to shopping next week! I want to hit Tommy Bahama for Doug and see what I can pick up. I have my eye on one of their camp shirts in a beautiful shade of turquoise. Hubby has given me one day next week in amongst all of the other things we have planned so I'm already making a list! The Tanger Outlet there even has a FLIP FLOP STOP!!!! I'm already in heaven and we aren't even in Charleston yet!! We're taking our boogie boards but we aren't sure we're even going to be able to get into the water! They've already had one sighting of a tagged shark close to shore, never mind the stranger danger ones that haven't been tagged! That's a bummer about the campfire. That's the one thing I look for when we camp! Sit there with a glass of wine. Love it!
  14. Most of you are probably too young to remember a tv commercial that used to be on. It was for bath stuff. Well for me today - Calgon, take me awaaaay!!!! (the product was called Calgon bath oil beads!) It has been that kind of day today and I'm on vacation countdown so it makes it even worse! @TinkerSofi Thanks for the heads up. That's good to know on the shoe thingys. I'll pay for the good ones. Do you know of anywhere besides Davids that sells them? Is it the brand name that is also Petals, or just what they call them? @@yycbride2016 I still say check out the other website I gave you - www.preownedweddingdresses.com I've spent a lot of time there and they have some awesome deals! I really considered getting either a used dress or a sample or something when Doug asked me to try and cut the cost back. And I looked there first for veils but didn't want to decided until I knew what I wanted. I only went in to Davids the other night to have a look and try to find a style and length that I liked, mostly because I'm still not 150% on the veil. But the deal was too good to pass up. At worst I'll sell it if I don't wear it. In the end I got my dress for $679 US and $45 for shipping. I just can't argue with that and neither can Doug!!! lol @@snswedding2016 Thank you! I'm excited to see them in the horizon too! lol I'm still not "on" with the veil either, not totally anyway. I saw some wedding photos here with the veil worked in in the way that I'm thinking and I LOVE the overall effect. I showed the picture to the lady in Davids and she's the one that said the sparkle in the veil will get picked up by the sparkle in my dress so she had her "thinking cap" on! lol @@MrsCtoB Thanks!! Good to see you back! You should stop in more often! lol I talked to our TA again yesterday and he said to call him both tomorrow after 3 and Thursday after 3 and he put an alert onto VIM for us. He's fairly sure pricing still has room to come down but I'm thinking we'll get booked this week. He raved about the property and kept telling me how well they look after you. Even though we aren't doing our renewal there, he's going to talk to the rep here and see if they'll consider upgrading us! Now that would be the icing on the cake!! lol
  15. @calgarybride2015 lol at least you can claim to be having a blonde moment.... in my case it's alzheimer's and old age!!!!
  16. @@Diana2501 Welcome to the site and congrats on your upcoming wedding! Jamaica is a beautiful place to get married and there are a lot of Jamaica brides here, both past and present! I'm also a Jamaica bride and we fell in love with the country and the people, and hopefully will get the chance sometime to go back! @@beckys98 gave you some good suggestions! We used Tai Flora for our flowers and while they were slow to respond, I was very happy with what we ordered. There are definitely some expensive photographers and we did find that a lot of them were out of our budget. In the end we picked Merrick Cousley and were very happy with him. He responded very quickly and we got our photos inside of about 6 weeks. You could definitely do a search up top under vendor reviews and see what other past brides have said about their experiences, then I would highly recommend looking through websites and contacting the photographers directly for their pricing. Some will help with the resort vendor fee, but not all. Four years ago we didn't have to pay one so it wasn't an issue for us. The last I heard the resort we were at (Gran Bahia Principe Jamaica) now charges a vendor fee of $800 so some of them can get quite expensive. Definitely read through the forums and reviews here. You'll find the ladies are very willing to provide tips and suggestions. Good luck and happy planning!
  17. Your story is so cute! And it sounds like you have a romantic on your hands! I love my hubby to death but there is NO WAY he would have come up with a scrapbook! That's just so adorable! As @@TinkerSofi said, definitely a keeper! You definitely got a good rate for BC and that's not bad at all for ON. You're going to have a good group there too by the looks of it! That's great! Your photos are beautiful! Look forward to seeing the summer ones too! Oh - and there are definitely no hard and fast rules for starting a thread!! lol There are all different timelines for when the brides start them so absolutely not breaking any rules.... since there aren't any!!
  18. I agree with @calgarybride2015 Maybe if you explain to your mom that the excursion is what you and your FI wanted to do as a thank you to your guests, she would understand? As well absolutely you could mention about FI's parents. Although, having said that it is traditionally the bride's parents that host the wedding so your parents could still host a dinner, maybe a "rehearsal dinner" even if you aren't doing an actual rehearsal. Have fun with the camping. We just got back after a miserable rainy weekend and are off again next Friday to South Carolina. I'm sure you'll get good deals on your GMs clothes. All of the summer stuff is already on sale in the US (so I'm looking forward to shopping too!). Kim - what's this about being stopped for your maracas???? I was going to have mine sent to Dustin's in PA and bring them back. Why did they stop you?
  19. Thanks for sharing your photos! You were a gorgeous bride and your dress is stunning! The makeup is beautiful! The recommendation definitely will help our future brides to be! Congrats on being a Mrs!
  20. @snswedding2016 Elsa and Frozen will win everytime! Two of my granddaughters are hooked! My daughter keeps saying if she hears "Let it Go" one more time she'll scream!! lol We have video of both of them dancing to the song, but the younger one is just 3. She just follows her sister and just mumbles the words until you get to "let it go", then she just belts it out! It's hilarious but they're both the same - dressing up like Elsa and Anna overides everything! @mlklovestory716 The ladies have given you some excellent advice! I'll add to that and absolutely recommend Wright Travel. Tammy is the owner and administrator of the site and is also a destination bride. Wright Travel have won awards for excellence through Karisma resorts and are a Diamond Level 5 GI certified agent. 21. https://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/ You could try watching this site. There are tons of dresses for sale, both new and used. I took a quick look and didn't see the one you want, but you could set up a dress alert and it anyone does put one up for sale it will notify you. Good luck!
  22. The brochures turned out great! And I love the props!! Your photos are going to be so awesome!!
  23. Thank you for your review! I know it will help future brides. Your dress is beautiful and I love you photos! Happy to hear it all went well. We loved Jamaica and hopefully will be able to go back sometime. I remember Dwayne Watkins' name going around when we were planning our wedding 4 years ago and his reviews were excellent! Congrats on being a Mrs!
