Turning Maybeoneday's Dream To Reality...
acw271011 replied to maybeoneday's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
Oh that's a shame! I hate when they don't put enough fabric in the seams for alterations! Good on you for the diet program!! Good luck with it!! Be sure to keep up the news when the other dress arrives! How are the other details coming? -

Meandhim - Grand Palladium Bavaro - Nov 2015
acw271011 replied to Meandhim's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
I'm sorry I'm so far behind with everything! First of all, I'm so sorry for everything you have going on. You're right - life really can kick you sometimes and it all just seems so unfair. AC - well we are talking about air canada. No other words needed. I really hope your TA gets everything put together. Thankfully that's what they're there for. Your FI's brother.... well there are no words. Families can really suck the big one sometimes. They're the ones that can hurt us more than anyone else. What they're doing is inexcusable and I would have no hesitation in calling them out on it. As you said, if they just don't want to go then be honest about it right at the start. I'm sorry for your FI. As for your Nan, I'm so sorry. I wish I had some words of wisdom that would help but I'm not really sure anybody can say anything that would do that. You know all of the ladies are here for you. I agree that doctors don't know exactly when something might happen. I think they say that to try and allow people to get prepared, if that's at all possible. As you said, she got to see you married and that's a positive memory that you'll be able to hold on to. Thoughts and prayers are definitely being sent your way. I know as well that funerals can always be held. They don't have to be at a specific time so there could possibly be an opportunity for you to have your wedding and still attend. Maybe that's a conversation to have with your family since you still have time on your side. Just a thought. I love all of your design ideas! Another one that is so crafty and talented! I think your guests will be totally impressed and the I Spy game is a great idea! Things will get better. It may not feel like it at the moment but God has a way of coming through for us when we don't expect it. Hugs! -
Dreams Resorts 2016
acw271011 replied to MegLeLy's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Congrats and welcome! There are definitely threads here for Dreams resorts in several places. I would recommend putting whatever locations you want to look at in the search bar at the top and you'll come up with multiple threads. Also, spend some time reading through them. Most questions that have been asked about the most popular resorts have been answered in the threads! Good luck and happy planning! -
Vegas is definitely on my bucket list!! Ladies - I have to tell you! I found a song tonight that made me tear up. You have to listen to it!! It's called When I Say I Do by Matthew West. I think this song just might dump the others and I'll just have to find another spot to play them. Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk

I so envy you ladies and I think what you're doing with this thread is awesome! Maybe sometime I'll be able to look at joining but for the time being it's a no go for me from a fitness perspective. I used to be into track and so on when I was much, much younger but running is completely off the table for me now. I miss it. I can barely manage 5 minutes on the treadmill we have and by the time I walk up from the train station to work (if I force myself not to take the subway) I'm so out of breath I have to sit for several minutes before I do anything. I have arthritis in my back, osteoarthritis in both knees, bursitis in my right hip, calcified tendonitis in my left shoulder and both elbows messed up with tendonitis. I get shots in both knees every four to six months and have just had the second shot in 2 months in my left shoulder. I've gained so much weight since I turned and passed age 40 but until then I didn't have a weight problem. I also quit smoking six years ago after 39 years. A good thing for sure but a bad thing when it comes to weight. I work so many hours right now that when I get home at night after a 14 hour day, any form of exercise is the furthest thing from my mind. And I also have a love affair with food. I agree - it tastes SO good!!! Definitely for you ladies with knee issues, cycling and swimming are the two most recommended activities because of the low impact but if you are going to take part in other activities, a knee brace to support the joint is recommended. Being buoyant in the water allows you to do exercises in the water that don't affect your joints but can still give you a good workout. I will most definitely root for all of you! It sounds like everyone has very realistic goals that aren't unattainable by any means and if you support each other I'm sure you'll all get to where you want to be. The important thing is don't be hard on yourselves if you don't. Young women are so conditioned to being part of an "image" that is either not healthy or completely unrealistic or both. It doesn't sound like any of you fall into that category though! Good luck to each of you. I'll keep lurking to see how things are going and no matter what, you're all going to be gorgeous brides! Just remember that!

I will chime in with the other two brides on the travel agent. I see you're both in the US. We have both canadian and US brides to be here, but travel packages for the most part are structured a bit differently in both countries. The owners of this site - Wright Travel - are destination wedding experts! A great TA will allow you to focus on your wedding planning while they assist your guests with their hotel bookings and flights. The other thing too, some resorts offer perks for groups. A travel agent will be able to identify whether or not you might qualify for little extras or not so absolutely worth looking into it. You can contact Wright Travel through this link: http://wrighttravelagency.com/inquiry/ Good luck!

@@Momay2016 Congrats and welcome! TA Wendy gave you some great info to give you an idea of comparing the two resorts you mentioned. As well, we have a bride to be that is getting married at the Royalton is just a few weeks. Hopefully she'll pop in with what she has been through and share it. NOW Sapphire is also a popular resort with the ladies here. What I recommend is that you do a search in the search bar at the top for the resorts you're looking at. There are quite a few threads available - too many to attach here but I can almost guarantee that any questions you have, have been asked and answered here. Definitely a travel agent is the other thing I would recommend. I see you're from Edmonton. We have several brides to be in Calgary and one that was just married in April that is also from Edmonton. A travel agent will free up your time to deal with your wedding planning while the agent works with your guests needs and inquiries. I know there are a couple here that the western ladies recommend. Good luck and happy planning!

It's tough, no doubt. I'm so used to it since my stepson has been in the US for 8 years so I don't like it, but I'm able to balance it out. For anyone not used to it, it's sticker shock for sure! I received our sunglasses yesterday and the bags and a couple of other things have been delivered to my stepson in PA - my jewellery, the table runner and chair sashes, our cup labels and other things. I won't pick them up until about mid september though so by then I'll be able to put everything together. The good thing is that our friends from here are on the same flight with us and parking their car in our driveway while we're gone, then we're all going in my truck to the airport. It means I'll give them their bags before we go and they can pack them into their luggage. No transport for me! Yay! lol I will take a couple since there are Vancouver people joining us in Mexico but less than what I thought. I can live with that.

@@kimberlyc Congrats and welcome! It sounds like you're in the US, in which case the administrators of this site, Wright Travel, are destination wedding specialists! You can contact them through this website. I would completely second what the other two ladies have said in that a travel agent will give you the ins and outs of the various resorts and work with your must haves and "don't wants". They will also be the buffer for you between you and your guests, which will allow you to concentrate on your planning but still have your guests taken care of. Packages from Canada are structed a bit differently in that they include flights, transfers and hotel stay. It's rare here to pick a hotel only stay. Nuevo Vallarta is a beautiful area so i'm sure you'll find something that works for you but absolutely, speaking with a travel agent will make the selection much easier! Good luck and happy planning!

Anyone Using Myfitnesspal To Get Fit For Their Wedding?
acw271011 replied to Meandhim's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
Sigh I would love to lose 13lbs!!! @@JoannaBanana I'm definitely right there with you! I would probably give everything I own right now to get to 135lbs! I dropped 25lbs last year, 14 of which was coming out of surgery and I thought oh good, this gives me my kickstart and I'll get the rest off easily. Not! i've managed the first 11 to keep off, but the other 14 came right back on. I weighed no more than 110lbs most of my life until I hit 40. Then...... yuck. So @@calgarybride2015 I haven't had a lifelong struggle as you've mentioned, but it is always a struggle. The scale goes down a bit and I get all happy, then it goes back up. I tried weight watchers and gained weight. Exercising is a big part of things for me. I did a lot as a teenager but at 25 I had 2 kids under 2 and worked full time. That doesn't leave a lot of time for exercise. I did ok like i said until I hit 40. Ouch. Talk about a metabolism change? Yowsers. Now I'm dealing with multiple incision scars that are still tender, almost no waist with nerves that got cut and arthritic pain that makes it hard just to go up and down stairs, never mind anything else. I have "myfitnesspal" but have no idea what to even do with it. Doug and I eat salads monday to friday and don't eat out anymore, or at least very rarely. It's the summer so we bbq at home. But I look at food and gain weight which totally sucks because I am so much a foodie! I've looked at the 21 day fix but again, the exercises for me will likely be a no go. I'm so short of breath right now that just the walk from the subway is a big deal. And no answers yet as to why. I did a cardiac stress test 4 weeks ago and they kicked me off the treadmill! I managed 2 minutes. The nurse hit the emergency stop, another nurse comes in and I'm being escorted off! But blood pressure and heart rate were fine. I couldn't even talk I was so out of breath. I would totally LOVE to find a way to get some pounds off. When you get to my age, it just isn't easy anymore! lol In other words..... old! -
Meandhim - Grand Palladium Bavaro - Nov 2015
acw271011 replied to Meandhim's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
No - it's my file. I designed it then someone fixed it up for me and made it nicer. It's done in Powerpoint. There's enough room at the top for a hole for the door handle to hang it from, and the design like I said is 2 per page. I just have to drop the file off on a data stick at Staples and they'll print it and cut it for me. i'm borrowing a hole punch to do the top and.... voilà! -
Meandhim - Grand Palladium Bavaro - Nov 2015
acw271011 replied to Meandhim's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
I'm doing mine at Staples. Already priced them out. The design is 2 per page. They'll print on their existing stock - you can't bring paper to them but they have both white and ivory in 65lb and white in 100lb which is what was recommended to use. I'm only printing 10 so 5 pages and I think it will be about $6 Vistaprint had a really good deal on with 50 for about $12 but what the heck would I do with the leftovers? If I can get out of the office on time tonight and get home at a decent time I'm going to drop the file off at Staples. They only need a day or two. -
i know! It sucks completely! They said this morning it was an eleven year low!! Doug and I went south to North Carolina in 2002 and I remember the dollar was at about 63 cents back then. Boy - did we take a hit. I'm in the same boat though. I've just scrapped the idea to pick up a couple of little things to stick in the bags because by the time I pay the shipping it's not worth it. Not for the number that I need. If the number was worthwhile I might pay it but for about 6 it makes no sense. We're off for Labour Day weekend with the trailer to New York but it will be a quiet weekend for sure with the exchange. We booked at the beginning of August and if we cancel now we won't get anywhere decent to go for the weekend since it's the last of the summer.

@@Mirnitap Congrats and welcome! All I can do is second what @TAWendy said because you can guarantee she knows her stuff!! You likely won't get a better straight up answer than what she gave you! If you want to try and get details about the 3 resorts in terms of what they offer, you could contact Wright Travel directly through this site and TA Wendy, and you could also type into the search bar at the top and read the tons of threads that will come up. There are just too many to add here. Reading is the best way to go through the site because I can almost guarantee that whatever questions you have, another bride has asked the same questions at some point in time so the answers are likely here if you read through. Good luck and happy planning!!

Oh no! i'm so sorry to hear that!! Definitely stress you don't need right now this close to leaving for your wedding!! Ok. Deep breath first. Positive thoughts second. It will work out but it just might take a bit of work. It's good that the officiant company is being good about things - they would have to be since it's their person that's leaving!! Can you take a sick day tomorrow? Do you get a lunch break that you can take some time and go through the catalogue and pick out the ones that you like the sound of then take your "sick" day and spend some time contacting them? I know it's hard to contact people in the evening. I don't get home usually until about 7 or 730 at night, then all I want to do is have something to eat and unwind. The last thing on my mind is "getting things done". At least you still have a bit of time but it's just a headache that you don't need right now!! Not on top of all of the last minute things to do!! Hope you feel better soon!

Wow! OMG that is absolutely stunning!! Just gorgeous!! I love the slightly off the shoulder style and the ruffled layers are beautiful! Is it my computer or is there a slight tinge of pink there? Again Wow! That is one of the most beautiful dresses I've ever seen!! You look fantastic in it and it fits you so well! Hubby to be will love it on you and won't be able to stop looking at you!

All of the resorts from Cancun all the way to Tulum are having an issue this year with seaweed, and my husband works with a guy that has just reported that the Dominican Republic is also having an issue. Nobody seems to know definitively what's causing it except that it seems to be a combination of factors. The resorts are doing the best they can to keep ahead of it but some spots are having a tougher time than others.

Janjin's Planning Thread - Azul Sensatori
acw271011 replied to Janjin's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
The only thing I would add.... is the stories about getting through customs in Cancun, particularly if there are a few flights getting in at close to the same time. I've heard people say it took them two hours just to get through customs on arrival. November isn't as busy as other times of the year for sure but maybe check the cancun airport website. You can look at your arrival date and see which flights are coming from where and judge your timing. We got stuck on a bus one time that stopped at about 4 other resorts before it got to ours!! -
I was super careful in Jamaica and still burnt! And you can see it in the pics. We arrived on Saturday, got married on thursday then had to fly home on Saturday. Definitely too short. Plus, I was on special arthritis meds at the time and we had to travel with an injectable dose. Well it was a switch from another one and only the second shot. Doug gave me the shot and I had a reaction so I have a big red patch on my arm in all the pictures where I'm standing facing that way! lol I would just do like @@calgarybride2015 suggested and use a strong sunscreen for the first few days or just be on a lounger in the shade.

Calgary Brides! Wedding Dress Dry Cleaning!
acw271011 replied to breezie's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
Now I don't feel so bad. My dress from 4 years ago is still in the bag and I haven't had it cleaned either. I had to clean up the bottom of it after Jamaica for our AHR but after that I put it away. I can't wear it now - it doesn't fit but it's black around the bottom plus my heel got caught in the grass then in my dress and pulled one of the underskirts and ripped it. I only paid $400 for it so spending $300 to get it cleaned isn't worth it. I haven't even given any thought to what to do with it. I know there's the brides project here in Toronto but I don't know what the rules are for donating dresses. -
Congrats and welcome! There are several Azul Fives brides to be here at the moment and one just newly married so you've come to the right place for information. You'll get a ton of ideas and suggestions as well as all the advice the ladies have shared. Good luck!

Oh yeah.... we've got a few stories about yards! We have about 8 of them on our bar in the basement and about a dozen of the coloured plastic shot glasses! lol In fact we left Senor Frogs in Mazatlan going back to a cruise ship carrying yards in the taxi back to the pier and sang our little hearts out the whole way back!! lmao and I have attached a photo of my darling husband from that little adventure! But you aren't allowed to tell him that I posted here! I will never hear the end of it!! lol
