Deecol's Planning Thread - Gbp - April 30Th, 2016
acw271011 replied to deecol's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
I just looked at the dates she sent me back in July and they travel on April 20th for 2 weeks! Yes - that would really be amazing!! Hmmmm fingers crossed on the job then would have to talk to the hubs. He isn't a fan of going south in April since weather is getting nice here, but it was the idea of going to celebrate with family that raised it in the first place. -
Deecol's Planning Thread - Gbp - April 30Th, 2016
acw271011 replied to deecol's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
Woohoo! I love it when you ladies post threads! They're so much fun to read! I love how the two of you met! It's funny - my family are all in the UK. Well, except for one aunt that went to Australia. I was born here but raised with the accent and it still makes my tummy do flip flops and that's family!!! lol I keep telling hubby that when we retire I want to take him home for a month or more so he can see all the places I love and meet all of my special peeps! My brother's name is Colin. I have a cousin who is celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary in April and they're travelling from England to GBP Akumal. With the date they're going for, and it's for 2 weeks, I'm certain they'll be there during the same time as you. We've been talking that if this new job comes through for me, it would be really great to get away for a week in April to Mexico to meet up with them at their resort and celebrate with them. With the job I have now I'm not allowed any vacation at all between the 3rd week in January and the end of May, thus the reason we've been saying if the new job comes through. Coba and Akumal aren't too far apart..... lol Can't wait to read more of your thread!!!! -
How To Find A Good Travel Agent?
acw271011 replied to Moni240's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Congrats and welcome! First off , I see you're located in Chicago! There seems to be almost an even number of American and canadian brides-to-be here but packages for travel are put together quite differently in the US compared to canada for destination weddings. The majority of the people involved from the US book their room packages and flights separately. Full package flying seems to be a bit slower taking off in the US whereas in canada, it's more rare to find someone NOT using an all inclusive package which also gives you airport transfers. And many of the US brides here will do their destination wedding on a weekend, with guests arriving on Thursday or Friday and leaving on Monday, whereas most canadian brides have their DW run for the whole week with family and friends and the wedding happening sometime through the week. I would highly recommend the owners of this site - Wright Travel. They are destination wedding specialists and have won multiple awards for service. In fact one of them is also a DW bride! They will work with you to determine what you want in a resort, your must haves and don't wants and also your budget and the budget you want for your guests. They are no fees for their service. Being in the US the "perks" as was mentioned above, are very different compared to canadian travellers. Wright Travel will be able to assist you with determining what perks you might be eligible for given the resort you choose and your group size. They can vary quite a bit from resort to resort. I've provided the link for you to get in touch with them. It never hurts to ask and it might give you someone else to compare. http://wrighttravelagency.com/inquiry/ You can also read the reviews here for Wright Travel, just to see what other brides have said: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/reviews/p/21494-wright-travel-agency-destination-wedding-and-honeymoon-specialists/ Good luck and happy planning!- 5 replies

Hi Welcome to the site! I'm not familiar with RIU resorts other than the fact that most of the ladies here that use a RIU resort complain about being charged for every little thing! But that's a deal with most of the resorts. Just because you're going to an all inclusive doesn't mean that includes your wedding!! They will charge for every little thing that they can! That's something i think you'll just have to get into your head and work with it. Everyone here talks about it! Have you tried doing a search up top for the particular resort you're asking about? Odds are that any questions you have, have already been asked and answered in some way, shape or form so I would recommend reading through as many of the RIU threads as you can. It will be worth it. Good luck and happy planning!

Oh my gosh I'm sooooooooo far behind! First of all, your crafts are so great! Everything! The ring box (I ordered one from Etsy), your messages in a bottle, the card box. You've definitely worked hard on all of it. I'm like @@Wafflesmom - I must bow to your talents but I have to bow to all of you ladies that are doing all of these wonderful things. I don't have a crafty bone in my body. The only thing I can say is I have no idea what a hashtag is or what it's for...... it sounds cute what you came up with and @ too We won't have one not just because we won't need it (whatever it is) for 6 people but also because I have no idea what we would use it for. lol I love the veil. I got a great deal on mine too but yours beats it! lol What a super price!

If anyone else is looking for real touch flowers, Afloral.com is having a big moving sale right now with 15% off so worth a look!

@@Canadorecc Congrats and welcome! That's a lot of information you're asking for! My first question would be do you have a travel agent yet? That I think would be your best first step. Your TA will become you new best friend as you go through your planning journey and will help you and your guests with questions, bookings etc while you concentrate on your planning. There are several agents in Canada that the ladies have worked with and willing to recommend. Secondly, there may be group perks you're could be entitled to and a travel agent will assist you with that. You're considering 3 very nice resorts and they have all been covered here in threads. I would highly recommend that you go to the top of the page to the search bar and just type in which resort you want and I know several threads will come up. Too many to list here. Take some time to read through them. The ladies here are very ready to share tips and ideas and I can guarantee that questions you have, have likely already been asked and answered in some way, shape or form on the various threads. Good luck and happy planning!!

Alternative To Linen?
acw271011 replied to malyna's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I agree with @vancouverpetunia Any kind of cotton blend would be cool, stay relatively wrinkle free and would look nicer with the vans than linen. Although having said that there are different kinds of linen, some heavier than others and mixed with other fabrics so you might be able to find something like that and looks ok with the shoes. -
Legal Documents. Notarized? Certified?
acw271011 replied to SandC's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I was married in Jamaica nearly 4 years ago. We were both divorced so document requirements were a bit different. Notarized copies of birth certificates definitely plus notarized copies of our final divorce papers. We were asked to scan and email the copies to the WC at the resort, then bring the actual originals with us and we had to hand them in to the WC when we met with her. They may not need that anymore but my feeling was that it seems to vary from parish to parish (county) as to how strict they are. Definitely your WC should be able to tell you what she needs but I would be prepared with your notarized copies in case. Notarizing a document usually means a certificate is attached by the Notary (lawyer) stating that they've seen the original documents and what they're attaching is a true copy of the original and they attest to that and usually add a seal. A Commissioner of Oaths is just someone that you take documents to that need to be signed but that have a sworn statement with them that the signature was witnessed. I'm a commissioner of oaths and it only means that people bring documents to me, I stamp them if they don't already have a special commissioner's box on them, then the person signing has a statement they have to swear to along with signing the document. That won't work for documents in Jamaica for a marriage licence though. @@SandC I'm not sure where you're from but here in Ontario a lawyer is the only one that can be a notary so you would have to find a lawyer to do the notarizing for you. Good luck! -
I don't think there would be anything wrong with sending them ahead of time. In fact I think your guests would be thrilled to receive them whether before or after you arrive in Jamaica! Do what works best for you!!

We brought the Bose speaker with us camping this weekend to see how it runs with the Bluetooth and battery life. We figured being outside would give us a good idea how the sound will carry on the terrace and at the restaurant and it was so worth the $219 that it cost. It's perfect!!! And will be great for camping and stuff after Mexico. Doug is going to try and do a 5 hour program off Spotify so that after the renewal we can get it to the restaurant and set it and forget it. So I did something a week ago. I had to think long and hard about it but I'm sooooo happy with my decision. I bought another dress. There was just something about mine that was bugging me and after getting so overheated while I had it on I went looking. I tried on about 7 styles in a salon and just couldn't get it right. I gave up and was just leaving the store and I stopped to look at 2 dresses that I had missed. I loved both of them, absolutely nothing like what I had been looking at. The lady in the store said come on, just try them on and see. I liked both of them so much, for totally different reasons, it took me nearly 20 minutes to make up my mind. I did, she checked and said there were 2 in the warehouse in Toronto and put the deposit down. It's Sophia Tolli and for some reason already available here. Now I have to try and sell my other one and thankfully the lady had other things on the go so hadn't started the alterations on it. Means I can sell it unaltered. I'm not going to post a pic of the new dress yet. I'll wait until Saturday the 12th when I go in for the alterations. It has already arrived in the store. I got a call on Friday afternoon. It's quite a bit plainer than the original one but I'm going to ask the seamstress to bling it up just a little. Stay tuned.....

@@ValentineMrs2Be Congrats and welcome! Puerto Rico is a beautiful place for a wedding! Have you decided where? If you need any help, the site owner here is also a travel agent - Wright Travel. They are destination wedding specialists and I'm sure would be happy to help in any way possible. A good TA will free you up to deal with your planning while they work with your guests for bookings and questions. Plus you never know if there might be little extras or perks that you might possibly get from having a group. A TA can tell you that. here is the link to contact them if you like. http://wrighttravelagency.com/inquiry/ I'm glad to hear your FI is responding to treatment and that the prognosis is good. That's the most important thing! We're renewing our vows next month for very similar reasons and I'm still around to celebrate. Ok ladies. I checked out the restaurant. i know the word was for a round table but this just might work. It's in the old Fionn McCools at the corner of University and Adelaide. It's now called The Merchant something. It has a glassed in small separate room right as soon as you enter the restaurant. It isn't a round table BUT..... it's a square, not a rectangle (square square in fact) and it has a bench almost the whole way around then two chairs on one side. If we're 10 it should work just nicely. I think from the shape because the square table is smaller that everyone will be able to talk to each other, either from one end or across the table. Plus being a small separate area you don't get all the restaurant noise. We can have food and drinks right from the menu no problem and no cost to reserve it. Let me know what everyone thinks. If it's absolutely round tables, I've already been told short of a banquet hall that getting a round table to fit 10 people in a restaurant is going to be difficult to get.

Oh those are so pretty!! What a sweet guy! Hope everything went as you hoped last night! I couldn't get onto this site last night at all. No idea why so I'm just seeing your pretty flowers now.

I thought I remembered seeing another bride to be with a date of October 7th but it might have been for Jamaica rather than Mexico.
-
@@deecol i'm afraid when it comes to downtown i'm not very good but someone just mentioned a place that I'll try to stop by after work and check out. He said it would be perfect for what we want but I'm going to check first. It's at University and Adelaide though so I don't know if that would work for everyone?

Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?
acw271011 replied to kerrij's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
We ended up being just the two of us because original plans fell apart for various reasons. I think the coordinator at the tiem took pity on us because they ended up treating us like royalty! lol It was fun actually! From what I understand none of the coordinators are there any more. It's too bad because we had a fabulous one, but I hear she has gone to another resort. We had our dinner in the Grill restaurant. In 2011 the italian restaurant was everyone's favourite because the Pisces cost $1700 to rent. The italian one had a semi-private room off to the side that still allowed you to be a group but be out of the line of sight of other diners. Catch was you couldn't have a dance there but most brides just rented the gazebo in the evening for a few hours and had their dance there. I highly recommend, if you can, go back to the beginning of this thread. There are a bunch of pics that will still show you how things look. If you go to my gallery I have a pic of the gazebo. It's really pretty and at the time it was the only resort with a gazebo right on the beach. That has probably changed now. I know this is a long thread but if you can find the time to go back and read some of the comments it would likely be worth your while! Good luck! -
@@Wafflesmom Ahh a woman after my own heart! Another shoe slut!! (sorry - I mean that in good fun!) But I'm a slave to shoes too. I love them. I now have 2 pairs of blue shoes for Mexico! I LOVE yours!! They are truly gorgeous as only shoes can be! And they'll be perfect for your dress and for being on the beach. I love the beach but not for our ceremony. I absolutely don't want sand anywhere near my shoes or my dress! lol But to be truthful I never even though about wedges. I immediately thought about flat sandals as the only option. Wedges will do just nicely!

Newbie Planning Small Wedding At Now Jade Nov 29, 2015
acw271011 replied to cycloneusa's topic in Newbies!!
@@cycloneusa Congrats and welcome! I'm sure you'll find questions asked and answered here that should help out. I'm glad TA Wendy jumped in and provided some info. If you take a look on the site, the reviews of Wright Travel are excellent and they are destination wedding specialists and Master Agents and a top agency for AMResorts. I think they could be very helpful as well. The other thing I would suggest is do a search on Now Jade at the top and you'll see that several threads will come up - too many to paste here. It is generally a popular resort among brides here so likely worth a look. Good luck!
